Loved the review. This gave me great confidence to go and try one out. I was a little worried that an Indian scout would be too little for me as I'm 6"1' but you guys are taller than me and look cool on it so I guess that won't be a problem. I want it as my first bike. Since I saw it I fell in love with it. I'm getting one in a few months hopefully.

My Scout! ;) I own this guy for two years and I was very interested what you will say during your review. You had very limited time for evaluation, probably few hours or days, and I can confirm you did your job very well. Even after my two year experience with my beloved bike all your words are perfectly valid. It is beatifully simple, easy to ride, not too loud (characteristic I especially looked for) but still with great character if you pull full throtle, greatly maneuverable bike. I have one, and it's fantastic. Docile at low rev's, but a screamer over 4500. Easy to handle at low speeds, but stable and comfortable enough at high speeds to make long distance totally practical. The downsides: Kind of a small 3.3 gallon gas tank, no cruise control, and useless off-road. I can live with those things.

@@fugitivermx I’ve never run it all the way to empty, so I’m not sure what the absolute range is. You could easily make it 120 miles before getting gas, but I’ve never gone more than 100 miles without filling up. I saw a KZbin video where a guy was getting about 150-160 miles per tank by always keeping the rpm’s low (which you can totally do with a Scout...there’s more than enough torque).
@fugitivermx4 жыл бұрын
@@twogungunnar9456 Awesome, range seems pretty reasonable. Ok it's not a tourer, but I figure by the time I'd need to fill up, I'm probably going to want to stop and stretch anyway.

My dad has a Scout (blue/cream two-tone) and I've been on it a few times. It feels very sporty and will go through the corners easily. It's quick, the torque-to-power ratio is really nice. No significant issues with the drive train, it feels solid. It's a fun little bike, but as folks note with fuel tank size - it's great in and around town, but not so great for a longer ride. The issue I have is the finer details of fit and trim. Every fastener needs to be gone over upon delivery with a bit of thread locker! Nothing seemed to be tightened properly. Even the left grip was sliding on the bar...no double sided tape holding it on. Some failure to attend to details that makes me sad. I am also not a fan of the exhaust - the real cylinder pipe is too high up on the bike in my opinion. I'm 6'1" and I think it's in the way. I'd prefer a swept exhaust or a pipe coming on both sides, which would allow them to be lower. Probably not an issue for most, but annoyed me.

Another well researched review with good rider input👏. My initial thoughts were "it's such a small bike for a tall person." However, it actually looked fine and apart from sounding like a sowing machine (plenty of vids about changing that) it's a Harley killer. My only irk of Indian Motorcycles presently is that they don't as yet have a deeper line up of bikes. They seem to start at £12k with the next model up @£19k with nothing in between. What's next the "Triumph Speedmaster" or "Bobber" but the "Vintage Dark Horse" would also be great - well done👍🤘😎

Hello guys! Nice job on the review. I must say all the gear is working well and the presentation is very nice. I like the way you break a bike down. Ol'Man, I have to say Mate, you look better on that Scout than I thought you would! I felt so cramped on it I wouldn't even ride it. And I get it, it's not so much the bike's problem. I am a larger human, and some bikes just aren't available to me as a result. I do like the bike overall. Although I think the suspension and brakes let it down, particularly in the front. I keep hearing they are adequate. I want to see dual discs and adjustable USD forks on a machine that has the pretense of a sportier ride. Because the drive train certainly holds up its end. Had the Victory Octane been allowed to live, we could have seen all kinds of performance options. I just wish they could have been more generous with the wheel base and rider triangle. Really nice bike otherwise.

@@MrDarcy-OlMan I know. For me, if I were in the market for a sporty-ish cruiser and I wasn't hung up on the bike being new, I would go for a gently used Victory Hammer S. That is a great bike. I wish Polaris would bring that style back using the new PP108 engine. Forget the heritage stuff, you know? Just put a kick-ass sport cruiser out there that looks as good as it goes. Now THAT would be a bike I would buy. But I digress! All that said, The Scout is a viable option for a lot of riders. It goes well, it looks good, it's reasonably priced, and as a platform it's pretty versatile. The new touring accessories collection is pretty cool. Not for the faint of pocket book, however! LOL!

Awesome Motorcycle I've been looking at this bike quite a bit lately. I've also been cross shopping this bike with the Harley Iron 1200 as this will be my first bike ever. To be honest the more I've been researching this bike the more i'm leaning towards buying this bike over the Iron 1200. The Iron 1200 is a good bike don't get me wrong however the the iron has a few things that would prevent me from buying one. First the foot controls they don't fit me at all then again I'm a fairly tall guy at 6,4 and 227 lbs. So the first thing I would have to do is switch out the controls to forward controls. Then the second item is the tank which is way too small in my opinion at 2.1 gals compared to the 3.3 gals of the Scout. That being said the Scout has some issues of it's own that I would need to fix before I could love the bike. 1st is the exhaust which way too quiet I want to hear that exhaust so that would need to change out asap. The 2nd item is the seat while Iron 1200 has a really nice seat the seat on the Scout isn't the best. So a seat swap is a must. Those items aside I really loving the Scout every time I see one the Iron 1200 not so much. So I think once I can afford to I think I might grab the Scout in the Bobber 60 variant one less gear then the standard scout plus it has the less powerful 999cc motor instead of the 1133cc version of regular Scout but for the price and the style and the fact you can get a liquid cooled v twin instead of an air cooled like the Irons and the 48s have with forward controls for around 10k US. The scout is one of the bargain street/cruiser bikes for the money. Anyone whose in the market for a good quality built bike but doesn't have a big budget should consider looking at the Scout series. Trust me they won't be disappointed.

The power between the Scout and the Iron 1200 is night and day. As for the exhaust, I have Crusher slip-ons on my 2016 Scout and I get compliments almost every time I ride my bike. A bonus of having the Crusher slip-ons is that it adds between 5%-10% to your power, and the ECM adjusts for it automatically.

Great review as always.. Watched this one on Yr suggestion.. How did you find it sizewise for you? Did it have the forward foot controls on the model you had? I'm 6'4" so bike size is a huge issue for me.
@MrDarcy-OlMan3 жыл бұрын
Thanks bud. Yes it had forward controls and was much more roomy than most other bikes. The Indian Springfield Dark Horse which we also reviewed was very roomy (even more so). I’d say Indians are the best bikes to go for, for taller people 💯

Do you think the extended seat by indian would be better for tall riders? Or is stock fine.
@MrDarcy-OlMan3 жыл бұрын
I guess so but after a while the stock seat may soften giving an extra inch or so of space

The Scout was my first choice, but I got a better deal on my 2019 Indian Chief Darkhorse. I did replace almost all of the Indian badges with Kuryakyn products -now the bike looks better and is not a rolling billboard.

Good review. As someone thinking of returning to biking I find the single front discs on cruisers a bit unjustifiable. As you said, it’s good braking for a single disc, but why the single disc? Is it just style over substance?
@MrDarcy-OlMan3 жыл бұрын
I think to be honest, double disc’s are more about reducing heat fade in continuous vigorous braking, ie spirited riding, and a single disc has plenty of stopping power and is suitable for such bikes.

12.5 litre tank is a wee bit on the small side. Can you get a larger tank as an option? Very nice bike. I'd prefer a larger headlight.

thanks for review to help stop us going mad , i say that because here in cornwall the weather would not allow you to do such good reviews ,, i see you kept that nice helmet _ any more feedback would be helpful as am thinking of getting one. you must have gained permission to ride on that estate, well done,, i dont like the rear end on that bike or any other harley copy _ it just makes the case for harley stronger , just my opinion folks,]]] glad you pointed out the daft ; in my opinion; pointless mode function , also how can you trust makers of bikes that cannot make a decent stand?????
@MrDarcy-OlMan4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Simon. The roads we were on were actually public roads (apart from plonking ourselves at the end of the drive). Interesting points you make 👍🏼 The helmet is really comfortable and relatively quiet. The visor does steam up a bit but once your moving its ok, partly because it’s freezing cold!

A bit small for taller folks. A larger version (based on the Challenger platform) with the PP108 would be awesome.
@MrDarcy-OlMan4 жыл бұрын
Yes that would be ideal 👍🏼
@dennism19194 жыл бұрын
That would be one I would consider perhaps. I can't even ride the current configuration! The rumor mill is already afoot with hints that a new platform (or a more traditional version based off the Challenger chassis) using the PP108 engine is in the works. A 2022 model maybe? We will see given the current state of the world.

Why such a small petrol tank. I know cruisers sometimes do this - I'd always assumed it was to retain a small stylish peardrop tank - but the tank looks large - is it a tank cover over a metal box beneath? Quoted 119 mile range effectively means filling every 100 which might become tiresome and even worrying at off peak hours...
@MrDarcy-OlMan4 жыл бұрын
Yes I guess it’s style mote than anything and it’s kind of an urban bike

I have a 17 Scout. I get 119 120 miles till low fuel warning light consistently . Usually have plenty of time to find a station. After 120 miles you're going to want to stop and stretch the legs anyway. These aren't touring bikes after all. :-)

I’ve actually scheduled a test ride on a 2022 but my concern IS the forward controls and I hope they have an option for mid controls. Spinal issues amassed over the decades make forward controls for me a no no. Nothing worse than your brain telling your leg to go to ground and your leg doesn’t get the message and over you go
