Sikhs are not a sub-group of Indians. Sikhs are an independent peoples. Punjab is the historic homeland of the Sikhs. In 1849, British India annexed Punjab and subsequently partitioned the region between Pakistan and India. The British annexation violated the treaty of Amritsar 1809 between British India and Punjab. From 1980s-1990s, India committed a Sikh genocide. We're not Indians!
