I was unaware of its existence until i had this soup at a restaurant recently and instantly fell in love with the taste. Never knew it was the 'national soup' of India! Great recipe. Thanks :D

Love Indian cookery. I love living in a country (the UK) which has so many food influences from around the world, and so many different people living here who bought their cuisine with them, from the Chinese to the Africans, the Indians to the Japanese, thanks to all of them for making food in my country more than just meat and potatoes!

I've loved Mulligatawny soup since a kid but for some strange reason was usually only in most of the shops around autumn and winter months back in the 80s & 90s when I was a kid.

I take the leftover gravy from any curry I made (there is always loads of it), add an equal volume of water then puree it. Delicious mulligatawny soup, well, close enough anyway and nothing gets wasted.

I use moong dahl and red dahl. Coconut cream makes it absolutely delicious. I cook 1 whole boneless chicken breast or thighs and then mince it into tiny pieces, then add it to the soup. Takes me about 45 minutes to an hour. I make a red sauce with tomatoes, minced chili's, the juice of a fresh lemon, minced fresh coriander, cumin seeds, coriander powder, a little salt, ground fresh black pepper, and roasted mustard seeds. A dollop of the sauce onto the top of the soup and then a dollop of whole milk plain yogurt. It makes it a meal. Throw a little acchar on the side and DELICIOUS!

Thank you so much for this wonderful video. I'm an English/Australian woman and my father makes Mulligatawny soup all the time. His recipe has ground almonds in it. I love the way you finish your soup with fried onions, coriander and a lemon wedge; and I could eat your chicken stock by itself! 🙂😛👋❤❤❤🇦🇺

After Sanjeev Kapoor ( I may be wrong) you are the only one who started posting cooking shows in KZbin in early days when there were no ads. I am watching your videos since then. I love the way you simplify the recipes and keeping the traditional taste intact. The most lovely part is when you taste your food and express your joy 😀😀. Keep posting new videos. Thank you! 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Chef a similar soup is famous amongst the Tamil speaking people in Sri Lanka (specially migrant Muslims from India).. We call it "molow-tanny" ), and it is usually made with beef or lamb ribs and turnip is an important ingredient along with carrots and cabbage.. And it's a clear soup not creamy.

nice to know the detailed story about the Indian national soup, I have tasted milahuthanni(molaghathanni) not exactly like this and heard the name even though I'm not a Indian. Also I've heard of a song with those words, I didn't know that this was the national soup of India. So was this molaghathanni first originated in south India since its a Tamil word. Thanks you so much for teaching us all these Sanjay Thumma.

I love mulligatawny soup, but I am a little confused. How can you have a national soup that not many people know about? It's like saying cricket is England's national sport but not many people know about it.
