Thanks Teresa! Indoors I’d suggest a mixture of organic topsoil, coconut coir and make sure to have moist moss in their hides for added humidity. Rocks can be fun to play with the topography and make the enclosure a bit more interesting for the tortoise but be mindful of small pebbles that the tortoise can eat (impaction) and certain rocks that would allow the tortoise to flip over. I suggest getting larger flat rocks if possible.

Tortoises can eat kale, in fact, kale is a good source of calcium for all species of tortoises. The oxalic level in kale is not high enough to be toxic to tortoises. Kale also has goitrogens that can interfere with iodine uptake. However, kale compensates for this effect by having high levels of iodine.

Im sorry i knew this video is long ago but i have a question, can these species live in Tropical area which has heavy rain from time to time To be exact im in similar condition as Malaysia I have a redfoot that has respiratory condition and its traumatizing to see those guys suffers, sorry to bother you

I don’t recommend keeping them in heavy rain climates, if you do I’d build a cover that gives them a place to get out of the rain. And build the enclosure at an incline so the rainwater drains quickly.

I have them together with the Burmese stars as they require a very similar habitat. however this is temporary. Potential cross breeding is a big no no. Once they get a little bigger they will be separated.

If they have a respiratory infection I recommend going to a vet, they are likely to use enrofloxacin (an antibiotic). To avoid this I would be sure their substrate drains easily and they are not kept too humid. Best of luck 👍

It really depends on the species but generally I use a mix of coconut coir, organic soil, and reptibark or wood chips.
