If u see the test matches till date in the series, KL is the consistent batsman who is playing as per the situation.In 2nd innings of the 1st test as well, he n jaiswal who faced the new ball and defended the team. He definitely deserves a century. Kohli n Rohit are no doubt the greatest batsman of our times, but their form is dwindling. Kohli also scored in the first test match as the ball was old and was not doing much. Hopefully Kohli and Rohit contribute more in the coming test matches.

Having watched cricket for so many years (35+) I haven't seen a one dimensional( not an allrounder) cricketer anywhere in the world who keeps getting chances for 4 years( 35 tests 61 innings) without having a significant knock in the format without even getting dropped from the team. There are instances of players making a comeback after being dropped ( played domestic and coming back) like Sehwag, Rahul, Rahane, Pujara in recent times. Please let me know if anyone could recall any other player in this category.

Why I have specifically mentioned one dimensional player is we had so many star batters previously who could bowl some overs like Mark Waugh, Sachin, Root, Williamson, Sehwag and get breakthroughs when needed. Remember the famous 2001 Kolkata test it was Sachin who got Hayden, Gilchrist and Warne in the second innings he contributed with the ball at least though he failed with the bat.

Problem is out none of out batters bowl and none of our fast bowlers are good with the bat compared to our spinners. So Jadeja, Ashwin and Sundar are mostly in the xi due to their batting and also to do a holding job/increase over rate with the ball.

Because of IPL small small state players across India are getting money. Because of IPL players from poor cricket nations like West Indies, srilanka, afganistan are getting money. Because of IPL BCCI able to help small cricket nations to build cricket infrastructure, because of IPL thousands of jobs are getting created every year for 3-4 months (IPL period) , Govt of india getting huge taxes from IPL.
