When you hold an Indian passport, always enter these countries via flight. Because land borders and sea ports are where majority of the smuggling happens. With subcontinent passport they will deny your entry; unless you bribe immigration officer.

My suggestion is don't travel to Cambodia by border, travel by air it would be smooth and hassle free. As I've travelled to Cambodia by air once it was smooth and hassle free the another was by land from Thailand,I wasn't even exit stamped and was sent back,asking me to travel by air from Bangkok. So, kindly avoid land border travel to Cambodia. The air travel would be much smoother and hassle free.

Been to cambodia with my family in october 2024. We flew from vietnam saigon to seim reap. Our immigration was Absolutely smooth . visas were applied online and entry was through seim reap international airport!!! Officials at the airport were very welcoming.. Its always recommended to enter via major airports , entry via land or river is risky. Cambodia has recently introduced E-arrival form which needs to filled before you enter cambodia. Officials were very particular about it..

Indian embassy in Cambodia is a joke. It was real that visa renewal for these countries were kept on hold. The back story was that Indian airports have issued a travel warnings for Cambodia job scams and this have trigged Cambodian Government's attitude towards Indians, since India didn't take down these warnings and they felt that India was trying to degrade Cambodia even after repeated requests showing the measures taken from the Cambodia authorities. But now the visa process are back to normal, but I am not sure in the case of ferry/river crossings.

Trip, tour and travel should be hassle free. If there is any hassle please back to your home, and enjoy your time with your loved ones. Don't fight or don't argue with other countries officers. I have seen developed nations also just delivered warning to leave such country where mutual understanding is not good as well they mostly help when there is pressure from there own country. Apart from that, no government wants to send their people to other countries for tour and travel. Due to depreciation of our currency. Instead of that, government wants to go to other countries to work there and send back remittances to our country. Always government sees profit. I just spent a month in Cambodia and found all amazing. People are kind and helpful. I see this lady to be vulgar, bad-mannered and arrogant from how and what she says. She definitely messed something up. Be respectful and you will be respected. Unfortunately, I have seen many Indians behaving badly in south-east Asian countries like Cambodia. In India we pay such high Taxes but we just don’t see it in our infrastructure, any welfare or any decent health care like some European countries. Our taxes go towards making some Ministers & their business tie ups richer unfortunately. To get any Govt work done we have to keep extra money aside for bribes to get our work done. I’ve traveled to Cambodia twice with On Arrival Visas without any problems. There might be some behavioural issues to have had this incident happened. It feels that this lady isn’t telling the whole story. I’ve found the Cambodians are nice welcoming and respectful people during my visits. Some of the bloggers are taking pictures or videos where it’s not allowed and later they complain on a different story.

Also, please read the fine print when getting a visa. All countries issue visas with the clause that these are valid ONLY if you enter from "approved points of entry". Which means the onus is on us to figure out which entry point is approved. All international airports are, hence no problem when flying.

the official website of evisa cambodia only states bavet as land port entry from Vietnam for evisa holders. she was trying to enter through prek chak which is not in the list. her fellow travellers must have made visa on arrival most probably or given bribe. it's always useful to check which port are allowed for entry based on the documents you have. however the bike incident is pretty shocking.

She said she had 'eVisa' of Cambodia and not a 'Visa on Arrival'. you cant take a ferry and expect to cross the border as ferry from Phu Quoc to Sihanoukville is not an accepted port of entry as far as eVisa is concerned. Considering that she took a ferry from phu quoc to Sihanoukville, eVisa website clearly mentions that only Airport is a valid entry port for an eVisa and NOT a sea port.

A similar incident happened to me on the thailand and malaysian border. When i was crossing the border through the road, they pulled me into a separate line, asking too much question. They held my passport for long. And very disrespectfully the behaved to me. But somehow, I managed to cross the border and reached back to Singapore. We shouldn't blame every officials in the world. When I needed help on OCI updates, based on my email request, sydney embassy official has given me a call and explained the process!! One is take up with Indian Embassy and another one lodge a complaint on the officials involved at the border post to the cambodian administration. Revenue comes out of tourism is so huge and any administration can't simply ignore the complaint. She should've leveraged assistance from the fellow travellers to muster their protest and demand reasons in writing for denial. Being a female, she could've contacted any Indian embassy nearby including Vietnam so that, you shall be able to contact the correct emergency numbers to approach for help.
