Senegal is one of the few African states that has never experienced a coup d'état or exceptionally harsh authoritarianism. Léopold Senghor, the first president after independence, resigned in 1981, handing over the office of president to his Prime Minister, Abdou Diouf. Mr. Sengghor was a Christian and the first president of Senegal where 97% are Muslims and 3% of Christian. The President of Senegal Mr. Leopold Sedar Senghor reached Dhaka on May 1974 to begin his 4-day official visit to Bangladesh. I saw him in 1974 in Dhaka, while his motorcade was passing when I was studying at Dhaka College in Dhaka.
