Most of the historical sites in India have Chinese traveller paintings and carvings. They used to meet local rulers while on their way to Nalanda, vikramashila and takshashila universities.. and those rulers used to get it painted and carved on the temples, forts and mansions as a memory.

Slower trains not only runs slower but they must also stop at many more stations which is probably the major reason for thery are being slow. For bullet trains ( G category), it takes only 4-5 hours for the same trip. You are smart to book the soft sleeping which is better than the hard sleeping ones.
