I don’t think it’s a mid life crisis… you sound like a guy that has enjoyed living your life to the fullest and you’re just ready to add something else to enrich your life ….. it sounds so generic to say but I have found riding so incredibly relaxing…. Being out on the road and find my self blowing my breath out a sigh of relief:) hope you make it out of Korea soon and get to the states! Vegas bound !!!!

Absolutely spot on about Harley dealerships. I went in to put money down on a Fourty Eight, and a some dude was giving me shit for wanting it. He said it was a girl's bike, it was too small, and I needed to get a Road Glide or something. Guy didnt even work there, he was just shopping for apparel. Salesmen was no help either, thought I was just window-shopping. I left, went to the other side of town and bought a Yamaha. I swear, Harley owners are doing more damage to the company than they realize.
@FASTLANEMOTO

Yep 👍…:that’s the exact mentality that I’m talking about……The 48 is an absolutely beautiful bike…..there’s a very unhealthy peer pressure system that surrounds the brand like none other and you are right it does damage to the brand as people get turned off to it by some of the owners….I would think if a guy with a Road glide saw you looking at a 48 he would be happy that you were joking the team not belittle you and actually turn you away…. And that salesman should’ve had some balls and had your back….he could’ve made a sale and potentially a future returning customer as many people that start on Sportsters do continue on with the brand:)

Maybe I’ve just been lucky. I go check out the dealerships around me as I save for my first bike and the guys at my local Harley shop are nothing but fantastic. Both the dealers and the other customers. Some dealerships have told me I couldn’t hear what the bikes sounded like because I wasn’t planning on purchasing. The guys at the shop asked me if I wanted to listen to any of em just because. And the other shoppers have had the same positive and inviting attitude

I agree with you 100%. I worked with a hard core Harley rider for 8 years. He rode like 40 miles to work every day and rallies at least half the summer weekends. He said to me he had more respect for a guy who rode a 150 cc scooter as their main mode of transportation through any weather than a weekend Harley rider lucky to top 5000 miles a year. And he added..."ya'know...when it isn't raining...or they aren't golfing". I laughed out loud at that.

The reason I bought my Scout was actually from the Harley salesman. I was checking out an 18 iron 1200. I actually liked that bike. 9950 price, looked great. Had like 3k miles on it. I told him 10k was my price range. He told me the Scout bobber was a way more capable bike. So I bought my 2020 Scout bobber with 1k miles on it for 10k. At the Indian dealer. My local Indian dealer really sweetened the deal to say the least. Never had a better experience with a dealership! Good stuff man! Keep up the badass content!

Good choice. The Iron 1200 looks nice but it is too basic with not much power in my opinion. I don’t drive fast but love the pull of a high torque bike for city driving. The Iron does not have it. Love your choice.

I agree with you, I don't like the whole "it's a beginner bike" mentality. it makes for a great beginner bike but it is not solely a beginner bike. get what you want and ignore the judgment of others. get something you'll love and want to ride more of. you'll never regret it, don't live your life according to others preferences.

At Indian they told me the Scout was like a beginner bike.. I was like what makes it a beginner bike? I didn't really get an answer.. I'm waiting for my 101 to get in.. and incidentally, the dimensions on the 101 are not much different than my HD Breakout.. different motor.. but hey.. I am not thinking the difference between a low rpm high torque motor and a high rpm 111hp motor is their reasoning for , so called beginner bike.. makes no sense to me.. the Chief Sport seems cool, but if I want to ride a bike high off the ground I'll ride my Pan America. To each his own.

Couldn’t agree more. They gotta let people buy what they want, when they want, instead of upsetting potential customers, and talking themselves out of a sale at the same time. I was deciding between a Softail Slim and a Sportster 1200 Superlow after years of riding superbikes. I was fortunate to have a very helpful and honest salesman (verified by asking many questions I already knew the answer to). I went with the Sportster for its size, it’s style, and it’s price. With all the accessories and stage two performance upgrades I got with the bike, it actually ended up costing a few grand more than the stock Softail. But, I got exactly what I wanted; several years have since passed, the loan is paid off, it’s still exactly the bike I want, and I have no plans to get rid of it.

The moment I sat on the Indian Roadmaster... it was like you said... hand in glove. Love that bike. Truth is I didn't have any issues with any of the dealers at all. They were all great to deal with. Ultimately just came to the bike that felt right was the one that we got. Found a nice 1 year old bike that saved us a bunch of $ and had tons of upgrades on it. Was a no brainer. I went through the same thing. Upgrading from a Rebel. Looking at a Shadow, Bolt and Valkyrie. I was staying away from HD and Indian because of price, but then started looking at Sportsters. I figured since now I am looking at HD, I might as well at least look at Indian, and when I came across the Scout, love at first sight. Totally hooked when I first rode it. I am pretty agnostic, I think all bikes are cool, but Indian did hit it out of the park with the Scout. I also rode a Scout Bobber for a few days, very cool, a lot of looks. Great video! In my many years of riding, motorcyclists who label a bike as a "girls" bike are most likely to have chosen whatever they ride based on how masculine the bike makes them feel rather than on how the bike fits their riding habits, use, etc. Not to throw shade on any motorcyclist out there, but if you buy a motorcycle as a status symbol and then put 1200 miles a year on it, why are you spending that money?

My interest in Indian has grown substantially over the past year…the quality of their bikes far exceed HD (I have always loved HD) but I cannot bring myself to pay the exorbitant price. Indian Bikes are producing what we riders want…I am 57 and have the funds to easily purchase either bike. Here in Sydney Australia we only have one Indian dealer, I hope more will open. HD have lost their path and sold out to trying to please everyone…it’s sad but true. I am seeing more Indian bikes on the road now and want one too. Thank you for clarifying my thoughts.

I heard all the things you couldn't do on a Sportster until I did them. People told me it was small so I put on forward controls and different handlebars. People told me it wasn't good on the highway which was odd because I rode it 60 miles round-trip on the highway everyday to work. People told me you couldn't tour which was odd because I toured 23 states with it. People told me it wasn't good for taking a passenger along. Okay for this one I had to add a Mustang touring seat and a set of used Road King shocks but once I did that I was able to take a passenger and tow a small trailer behind my 883. After my experience I'm thoroughly convinced that most of what people tell you about Sportsters isn't something they know but rather something they're repeating without having a clue.

I super appreciate that:) I’ve ridden dirt bikes when I was younger but didn’t get my first street bike till I was in my late 40’s so you could still beat me to it:) It doesn’t have to be a bike as expensive or powerful as a Harley or an Indian … my first was a Rebel 300 and it was a ton of fun and not too expensive… plus the insurance is way cheap on a bike of that size and they get incredible gas mileage like almost 80 mpg so they practically pay for themselves. I haven’t made a vid on it yet but I just got myself a new commuter specific bike which is the Royal Enfield Hunter 350…. They have some really cool different bikes in their lineup that are very reasonably priced… come with a 3 year unlimited mile factory warranty and get around 80 mpg…. Insurance for me is $18 a month. Anyways happy bike hunting and let me know what you finally end up with:) blessings my friend

Got my first bike ever brand new. 2018 Indian Scout sixty. Been havin a blast just darting around and doing little custom things. Making a titanium shifter rod next. Bikes I'd get in a heartbeat. Triumph Bonneville bobber black Indian Challenger, Springfield vintage, FTR1200 Harley Night train, Soft tail Slim, Fat bob Victory Vegas, Jackpot, Octane. My 2018 scout made me love bikes. Everything else was just neat. Not a hot rod but a slick classy cruiser that has a respectable jump and go. Glad you got that bike that makes you love riding man. 😁👍

12:26 is what I’ve ALWAYS noticed. I like to be different as well. I test drove my first motorcycle from Indian, and it was the Challenger🥰. I haven’t bought one yet. it’s still a waiting game for me. I love the Scout Bobber’s style. I haven’t been on one yet, so I don’t know how it rides. I’am a fan of Indian simply because I had such a great experience with the dealership. As for Harley…………I’ve NEVER been on a Harley at all. But if I were to go that route, it would be the Road Glide for me. I love baggers. I have plans to own two bikes. A cruiser, and a bagger👌🏽. I would most likely get a Bobber first, before the bagger. Simply because the Bobber is roughly in my price range. I’am hoping to grab one this year🙏🏽. Great video👌🏽.

Thanks for commenting I’m super glad you enjoyed the vid. A motorcycle is a personal choice….no one should be telling you what to ride…. You should ride whatever bike sparks something inside of you ….. looks feel style and budget all come into play when choosing a bike. And if your not sure find out about local demo days for the brands you want to try out or there are rental programs for a lot of the major brands….. yeah it might cost you $100 or so to try one for a day but it’s $$$ well spent….a bike you may have thought you really wanted might not feel right for you at all :) Good luck on the search! Update me when you find the bike you want!

I was in a pandemic era funk, recently dumped, and turning 48. I was watching one of those silly Progressive commercials and saw a 2021 Scout Bobber ABS in Maroon Metallic Smoke and I was instantly smitten. If I was a cartoon dog, my eyes would have protruded grotesquely from my skull and my tongue would have rolled in and out of my mouth like a party favor. I'd never even owned a bike, but I called a dealer, sent a non-refundable deposit and anxiously waited almost 5 months for her arrival. And just like that, I was a member of "The Tribe." As you mentioned, I love how unique and rare it is to see an Indian, whereas Harleys are a dime a dozen. Also, watching how unmercifully South Park parodied Harley riders was the clincher . . . 😂

A Little late to the party but subbed! My main ride was an Indian Scout and the only reason I picked it up originally was the price! Brand New for $5k cheaper than the sporty I was looking at. But I still have that and am now building a Vicla Roadking. EDIT; I'm 6"5 and the sportster was WAY too small. After upgrading to the King I can tell you that the Scout is on the small side too, but really did it's job. I actually went the opposite route. Had a 21 scout bobber and loved it for local streets but it was far from comfortable on the highway especially when it’s windy and since you are sitting like a taco on it. I spent a lot of money and headache to make the scout bobber comfortable but only ended up making it look ugly lol It’s not meant to be a highway cruiser at the end of the day. Also once you go above 75 miles, there’s a lot of vibrations. I now ride a 22 Harley fatbob 114 and while it’s heavier, it’s much better ride and comfort overall. Better in almost every way in my experience. Cheers!

I think the Scout is probably ok for a first bike…..with reservations….it has a ton of power but it’s so low and well balanced that it’s not overly scary at all….My first street bike was the Rebel300 and that’s really super light like 300 and some lbs …..the scout is more in the5-600 range. I’d probably suggest something a bit cheaper is just because you won’t cry if you lay it over like you will something fancier :) but just my 2 cents. I’d say get on one at one of Indians demo days if you get a chance and see how it feels…..and there’s always the scout 60 /bobber 60/rogue 60….. 5 gears instead of 6 a bit smaller engine and cheaper on the wallet….but people who have em still love em :)

I can totally relate to 'taking the different path'. I've ridden all the Indians at their demo days from the Scout 60 up to the Roadmaster Elite and they're all great bikes but the bobber is the sweetest looking. I've been riding since the 70s, have ridden a lot of different bikes and the only bike that ever gave me that "spark" was the 2010 Victory Vegas 'LE' which I ordered brand new in 2010. There were only 100 of them made (I have #29) so I have never seen another one. Now 12 years later I still ride that LE and it still gives me the ol' "spark" to this day. People still always stop me to check it out and even a lot of Victory owners didn't know about these Vegas LE bikes. Have fun on that new Scout Bobber and stay safe...you made a great choice!👍

Let me just say that I happen to know - professionally - several of the designers at Indian. These guys are riders to their core. Polaris is NOT some faceless multi-national corporate entity. It's based in Minneapolis but was founded in the far north town of Roseau, Minnesota which borders Canada. Indian Motorcycles are made entirely in the US. The engines are cast and built in Osceola Wisconsin. They are designed in Medina, Minnesota. They are put through their paces by brilliant engineers in the small town of Wyoming, Minnesota. The final bikes are built in Spirit Lake, Iowa. They are hand-painted in Vermilion, South Dakota. Polaris rejuvenated the Indian Brand because they believed it had the balls to compete with Harley as an alternative American Motorcycle. They may be the underdog compared to Harley. But they seem to listen to riders. Yes, their dealer network is not quite as sophisticated as Harley. But it is improving. And frankly - damn (at least to me) - their bikes are beautiful.

Dude, my experience is exactly the same, our local HD dealer is super friendly, super helpful, and they want to help you walk out the door with whatever you were looking for. My local Indian shop, where I bought my bike earlier this week, were bothered that I was there, made the shopping experience terrible, and if it wasn't for me not wanting to drive 3 hours to another dealer, I'd have done so. I think they are a niche dealer and make enough money that they don't care if you buy something. Nice vid.
@FASTLANEMOTO
@FASTLANEMOTO Жыл бұрын
Right on dude! Yeah man these Indian Dealers just don’t seem to value their customers the way the HD ones do …. Polaris needs to make a consorted effort to connect with customers…. Their simply doesn’t seem to be any effort made to create a community of Indian riders….. I mean they are all in with big $$$ stuff like I Influencers and Company collars like Roland Sands and the King of the Baggers or Super Hooligan stuff(which I live BTW) but the “little guys “ who can’t give them anything don’t seem to get any attention….Indian needs to realize it’s the little guys like you and me they are spending our hard earned cash on their stuff and should focus on creating a community around it. I think part of the problem is “Indian” dealers usually share their showrooms with a bunch of other brands. Blessings dude 😎

Thanks Jay appreciate that :) Both are really great bikes just depends on what feels right for you. There are pros and cons with both…to me the Sportster kinda just has that raw motorcycleness …..there are also a million parts to customize one…..the Scout Bobber to me is a little more unique as there are simply just not so many of them out there…. I’ve ridden both of the bikes you speak of and love the looks of them both and honestly kinda wanted to go for a Harley originally… but I gotta say once I rode the Scout there was no competition it just felt like a more refined machine and I fell in love….get yourself in the saddle of both bikes and see which one sparks that joy in your heart :) let me know what you end up with:) Blessings

I rode motorcycles for over thirty years before I got my first Harley-Davidson which was my 1999 Harley Sportster 883 I was an accomplished Rider not a beginner. I rode that bike over 20 years. I still have that bike. It is part of the family and will never be sold. It does not mean much to other people but it means a lot to me. So much stupid crap when you deal with a Harley that you don't have to deal with when you buy a regular motorcycle. Harley's Best Fuck The Rest. Well not any more.

Solid advice. I enjoyed the vid! I’ve been a HD rider for years and have always kept my eye on Indian. My latest is a 2021 sportster 48 and I love it in more ways than one. Style, feel and nostalgia if that makes sense. I’ve dropped about $6K on it in upgrades while keeping it strongly based in an old school style. You see lots all blacked out and modern drag looking sportsters with LED upgrades which is cool, but I kept with the 1948 theme and have had a blast tinkering with the chrome/black balance without going too modern. The only thing that kept me from getting an Indian was that they looked “complete” to me. I was anxious to make my new bike unique and my own by doing a lot of customization. Indians have awesome motors that put out more power than HD in the comparable size, and for that I know I’ll get one one day. Couldn’t agree with you more about size/bike ratio, don’t let anyone ever tell you you’re too big or the bikes too big. Ride it for yourself and decide. I Look forward to vids of you sharing your experience with your new Indian. Cheers mate! You’ve gained a sub 👊🏼

Good video! I watched it because my nephew just bought a brand new Indian Scout 101. Like me, he's a very independent minded, thorough researcher when making major purchase decisions like this. It looks awesome! I was curious to see what others were thinking and saying. I was hooked when the topic included Sportsters. I have a Sportster, an '05 Roadster 1200 specifically. I love those bikes, always have. I bought it brand new and had it equipped with the tank (4..5 gal) and seat off the Custom model before delivery. That bike has been so great to ride, I've had it for 19 years and still have no desire to "trade up." It's not spent it's entire life as a garage queen either. It's been on week long vacatios coastal rides, thrashed through the mountains and pressed into daily commute sessions on many occassions. I'm actually planning another vacation trip for next month. Dealers have always treated me very well. I have gotten the "girl bike" slight often, but only from other Harley riders. I have gotten the "Harley's suck or are trash" insult too, but only from metric cruiser riders. My usual response is simply, "Did I ask? Because I don't care."

I own the Harley Iron Matte Black with short loud pipes,solo seat, drag bars, because to me it’s the coolest, meanest bike on the road and my bike would get lots of looks and compliments at work and the other bigger more expensive bikes with way more accessories didn’t draw as much attention and their owners would make ridiculous comments about my bike even when I would always compliment their bikes. I loved the bike because it was light and very easy for me to maneuver in tight places and very easy for me to transport by myself in my pickup. I totally agree that every rider is entitled to choose the bike they can afford and fits their style, and needs without unwarranted criticism. Ride and let Ride.

I’m with you 100% dude just let people ride whatever makes them happy… too many people are just riding something out of peer pressure…. I mean if I was super into Honda Groms I would ride the hell outta that little bike who cares what somebody might think…. ….. so many just like the image of being a “Biker” which I can admit I like as well but ….are you having fun on the bike you ride is the bigger question :) Peace my friend!

My last bike/first bike was. Yamaha Bolt. Moved up to something larger and bought a used Harley Street Glide this summer, that was heavily modified/upgraded (stage 3, extra large front wheel, stereo upgrades, custom hard bags that run extra low). I looked at a few Indians, though. Just not a lot of them in my area for sale (used) and not a lot for a decent price. I was able to find a better price on the Harley because my area had hundreds of them for sale / a lot of dealerships within an hour of each other. That’s the one thing Harley has over other models - kinda like Apple and the iPhone. When you saturate the market, it crowds out some of the smaller brands and makes it more difficult to find models beyond the “standard” - esp when buying second hand
