I am Puerto Rican who is very much interested in the Indian culture, especially since I am always being mistaken as Indian. I have photographed many weddings in my lifetime, I’ve never done an Indian wedding. I was approached for an Indian wedding once, and more than willing to take it, I wanted to be that photographer who was open to anyone and everyone. Until I realized that it was more than one event, and I wasn’t able to schedule it in. Needless to say, she went with someone else.

tbh you will have a lot of guests of course that stay for every moment of the events and then you will have just as many guest who will show up for a few hours and then leave during. When we did our Haldi ceremony, were on our stage for hours. Then we got to join in on the dancing. Of course when another family member arrived we were back on the stage again for them to smear the haldi (turmeric) paste on us. You will truly love it! There are so many meaning behind very little item. Wait until the marriage ceremony when you dump rice on each others heads. lol We had some fun small traditional games we did during ours.
@rairadio7119
@rairadio7119 2 жыл бұрын
For Sangeet, both bride and groom side (friends,family) has to prepare dance numbers. On Mehendi you get Mehndi, For Haldi, you smear Haldi on the bride and groom and spend the rest of the time getting ready, eating and recharging.

Hi Alan, love your energy, enthusiasm, and passion for sharing your expertise. I’m an Indian American mom of a daughter who is wanting to get married (and we’re in the process of looking for a suitable boy...yes, an arranged marriage of sorts!) That’s how I chanced upon your video in my feed. You’ve explained the highlights of the wedding ceremonies very well. However you may want to consider the fact that South Indian weddings are very different from North Indian weddings. Also Destination weddings and intercultural/inter religious marriages have become a big part of current trends (as you’ve mentioned in this video) and that creates a lot of fusion in the marriage ceremonies. One of my Indian cousin’s daughter’s (my niece) recently got married to a Scottish guy who was part Japanese. So they had a church wedding in the UK followed by a Mehendi-Sangeet-simple ritual in India, more as a ‘meet the family’ event and to keep the grandparents happy. Mehendi-Sangeet are more of North Indian wedding components that have become more popular even in the South due to promotion by wedding planners. True South Indian weddings would be more ritual-based with the fire rituals playing a more prominent part. I’m sharing all this more for the sake of your young Indian American channel followers to enhance their own cultural awareness. (And also to know how to explain it all to my daughter! 😊) Overall you did a great job and I really enjoyed watching what you had to share. Keep up the great work!

I was fortunate enough to be invited to attend a friend's wedding. They were both east indian. Going in i was not sure what to expect. I was nervous, i'd never been in a temple before. I also was surprised to learn our attendance would be requested for THREE DAYS worth of events very much like explained in this video. Somr things that i was surprised by, caught off guard by, were: *Shoes off upon entering temple - they all go in a giant heap by the door and somehow everyone manages to find their own when they go! *Women must cover their heads in the temple - yes even non Indian attendees! We were given loaner scarves to use as we were not prepared for this! *instead of grooms side and brides side they seperate attendees by gender women on one side, men on the other. *The food was vegetarian as stated in this video but LOTS OF IT! and he's right it's wonderful! Super flavorful and delicious! * the pandit (holy man performing the ceremony) carried around a bowl of a soft not quite SLIMY (but lets just say if your sensitive to textures this might be a tough-ie)the slightly sweet/ dough-y substance that he passed around to each person by pulling off a small bit rolling it into a quick ball and placing it in each person's mouth with his bare fingers as he said a prayer....(granted this was before covid) but was still hard to swallow so to speak! All in all was an amazing, beautiful experience and im sure Vijay and Divya are happily ever after!
