The Fever owners understand what she brings in all areas. They also realized the old regime did not get it and so they cleaned house at all levels of the operation and brought in the best people who really understand not only the game but the business. You are right Adrienne, the Fever management should be running the W. The league itself should have trumpeted CC from the very beginning. With the changes in coaching and with Kelsey coming back this team is ready to rock out!
@philip6927
@philip6927 8 күн бұрын
@@Purple_Pain The old regime got it but the were afraid that Caitlin Clark would expose them for being hypocrites and always bragging about being the best in the world. They wanted to keep down the new competition posed by the young players despite saying that they wanted to grow the game. The old guard did not mentor new players. It didn't take Caitlin long to outshine and break all the records of these legends.

Adrienne, I generally agree with your drift, but I have a slightly different take on events vis-a-vis CC and the Fever. #1) I think the Fever organization was just as surprised, as everyone else was, by CC's potential and how to handle her. Nobody knew; the first half of the season was abysmal for the team, so they seemed a bit tentative. Oh, CC certainly had her moments, but her teammates seemed at a loss, as well as management, on how to react. It seemed a lot of time her teammates seemed surprised at the ball materializing out of nowhere and were just as likely to drop the rock out of surprise. And, while management didn't buy into the pulsating negativity of the rest of the league, they were tentative and with fingers crossed they began to dance with Caitlin. Well without getting too sappy, it’s like when you're dating somebody new and you really like them and hope they're the one, but you've been burned a few times before, so you take it slow, but constantly move forward in the relationship, until one day you find yourself proposing, or accepting, and it comes as both a surprise and in retrospect inevitable! Yes/No? #2) I agree that CC getting drafted by the Fever was fortuitous, in that when CC arrived the Fever was a team of talented but unproductive players and the Coach had no more idea what to do with CC than she did with Boston, Hull, Berger, etc. But she had the grace, or the sense, to stay out of CC's way, who seemed to mold the team, game by game, to her style of play. Come the All Star/Olympic break and the Fever broke loose and it literally was a whole new ballgame. You made a remark, a couple of shows back, that "When Catlin is cookin', everybody eats!" (I love that line!) Too True! I think for the first time the girls were not only seeing huge crowds and record breaking audiences, but they were seeing themselves on highlight reels for the first time, after every game, never mind they had to share the reel with that skinny white girl--you could not deny the look of genuine satisfaction (pleasure?) on the faces of Mitchell, Boston, Hull, Smith, Berger, Wallace, et al, when they held onto the pass and made the layup. I mean this was some real shit, and it was just as exciting for the players as it was for the fans. #3) Coach Sides, being a bit ineffectual, did have the benefit of allowing CC to rise to the occasion and take over the team, and bend it to her will, so to speak. No ego driven coach determined to pound a square peg into a round hole would have allowed it--there was a real danger that it could have ruined CC or at least delayed her coming into her full potential for a couple of seasons. Here she was in full bloom her first year--and we ain't seen nuthin' yet. (What kinda nut works out on her Birthday?) The Fever is more CC's team now than any other individual in either the W or the NBA, and I don't know of any team in any sport, in my lifetime where a single player commands such personal loyalty, respect, love. (Did you see the way her teammates would surround and protectively embrace her after she was flagrantly fouled, usually uncalled! I have this image of Boston, or Smith, literally whispering in her ear, soothing endearments to calm down her rage. Not one of those women would have done it if she really was just a "privileged white adolescent male"--no way. They genuinely love her. I hope Coach White recognizes that, because she ain't never gonna get the team back, and the core of players who surrounded her that first year will remain personally loyal to CC--so long as they see themselves on the highlight reels! I don't mean to imply these girls are shallow, but it's got to be exhilarating for them, to go from last place, all the way thru mid-season, to a playoff berth and dominating the league in the second half! All they had to do is be prepared to catch that dime on an instance notice and make the layup, and then watch themselves that night on the vids. They all know who's responsible for their success, but they also know that CC knows she couldn't do it without them. It really is a mutual admiration society, and everybody on the team is invited to the feast, and they all know who's cookin' it! Her teammates look great precisely because they are her teammates. #4) I can only speak for myself, but I can't imagine I'm the only one with a similar experience, but I didn't start watching CC until her final year at Iowa, and I didn't start watching her regularly until she joined the WNBA, but a funny thing happened while watching her play--I fell in love with what Coach Becky Hammon called, "A legit 3-Headed Monster". I admit I found myself transmogrified, watching Boston, Clark and Mitchell raining threes, dropping dimes and breaking ankles! But everybody got into the act-like watching a sprinting Smith drop passing, without even looking, to a trailing CC who doesn't even dribble and takes the three from the logo! Yeah, I was transmogrified (look it up)! And you can't tell me I was the only one. I tried watching the playoffs, top seeds, the best of the best, Blah! They were as boring as the NBA; just big girls banging into each other, no finesse, no dazzling ball handling, no give and go, nothing I'd like to see again on a highlight real. Passing is CC's superpower, and no one plays with the elan and joie de vivre of Caitlin Clark--but I think Michell and Boston and the rest are remembering just how fun playing basketball can be! I'm 77 and I came to believe nothing could surprise me (present politics notwithstanding) but CC and her traveling Circus have brought me a lot of joy. I am friends with two sisters, just a few years younger, and we got together as much as we could to watch the Fever last year, and we've become rabid fans. We all used to watch Curry and the Warriors, but now we talk about how we can't wait for the WNBA's season to begin. I even tried to get tickets, last month, to see them when they played the Valkyries in S.F. but the tickets for those two games, in May and June, were almost sold out, there weren't three seats together and the courtside was all gone, mid-range seating was $600, even the nosebleed seats were $380. And they are playing at Oracle Arena, where the Warriors play. Just under 20K seats, and they're sold out 6 and 7 months before the game. And I hope the Fever all the success in the world for all the joy they have brought us. 5#) I've seen the vids of CC as a 7th Grader playing on a High School team, and she was dribbling between her legs, passing behind her back, dropping dimes and shooting three's back then--she got her first University recruitment letter as an 8th grader, her parents intercepted it and never showed it to her. Over the years she's just gotten bigger, faster and better, and she's spending the off-season "improving" her game. May the good Lord have mercy on the rest of the WNBA, for they know not what cometh! I don't know if she's so much the needle in the groove as she is the dagger slipped between the ribs of the corpus delicti. The rest of the Dubs have a lot of catching up to do. Once you've seen the Fever play, you can't unwatch it, and right now the rest of the league is unwatchable--except when they're playing Indiana! It's like watching the Globetrotters play the Washington Generals. (I said I was old.) Well at this stage in the coming disparity of the teams, the Fever matches the AI definition of, "The Harlem Globetrotters are an American exhibition basketball team that combines comedy, theater, and athleticism." Yup, that's the Fever in a nutshell, and the rest of the WNBA are the Washington Generals and Catlin Clark is Meadowlark Lemon--on steroids, with a gleam in her eye! Adrienne, I apologize for the length, and it’s probably not appropriate for a KZbin comment, so sue me! I really enjoy your show, what I wrote was inspired by you. I don’t think I’ve written anything this long since I was in grad school-go Tar Heels!

Beautiful poem, and everything you said is so true. Well, it looks like the rooster is complete for Indiana Fever. Maybe just one more for the bench. It's looking good. Now that game, bringing that to Iowa is just fantastic. Hopefully, it will be televised, and we will see how many viewers will be glued to their TVs and phones, I will watch this game in Scotland if possible, this is a shakedown, with the best players in the league, five of the top players in one team, WOW, I think once everyone has acclimatise, and settled down, then comes the training as a team, hopefully, Indiana will post more videos, like introducing the new team members and old to their fans, the way they welcomed back Kelsey Mitchell, that would be great, and maybe invite the fans to a meet and greet with a bit of training with the team, great PR, keeping the needle moving. 😊

I loved watching Cheryl Miller play. Loved it. In my mind she was the most talented women’s basketball player. Other people thought other players were the best. Then came Caitlin Clark. I have never seen a women’s basketball player even as good as she is. And it’s not just athleticism. There are plenty of great women’s athletes. But nobody uplifts their team like Clark does. She makes everybody around her better. When people flipped that she didn’t accept the shooting contest for the NBA All Stars, many missed what she actually did. She said she’ll do it during the WNBA All Stars… Why? Because she knows the power she possesses. She, and ONLY SHE at this moment in history, can bring attention on a global scale to the WNBA. She’ll do it during the WNBA All Stars; and tens of millions will watch. I don’t know what the IT Factor is. But whatever it is, Caitlin Clark has it. She’s the most influential athlete in America right now. Hands down. And she’s not arrogant about it - but she knows it. And anybody who doesn’t think so, isn’t paying attention.

I’ve said from Day 1 that Sabally wasn’t going to Indy. The Fever Organization is a “sniper from the side” & I’m loving it

You once again are so right - the Fever will be the standard of excellence in the WNBA and everyone else will need to follow suit or be left behind. I truly believe the league knows this (regardless of what some owners/coaches and the media have said about CC). And this is what the league (and the world needs) - having a rare talent and bright light like CC arrive on the scene must be embraced and allowed to fully flourish. The poem you read was beautiful and as you said the God’s truth. Glad I found your channel (a fan of basketball and of God).

Christie Sides ego wanted her to be the one to get the credit for the team's victories, not Caitlin.

But... But... But... Crusty Sides WAS the reason for the success, wasn't she? I mean, she got Coach of the Month! 😂😂😂

Sides wasn’t smart enough to have an ego lol. There is a saying..never let someone who was successful pick their successor p. They will almost always pick someone not as good. That’s exactly what Linn Dunn did.

This young lady (cc) ruined her. 😂 Sides just couldn't see what she had.

So many great players have great nicknames. We have The Logo, Larry Legend, White Chocolate, The Black Mamba, etc. I have been trying to think of an appropriate nickname for Caitlin Clark. I hereby nominate "The Needle." Thank you, Chiney.

I was wondering if any one knows what the weather is like In Iowa in May ? As might be a consideration to move the game outside to Kinnick Stadium. Imagine how that would look if they sold that out.

kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqKZnGesbs5rocUsi=FytZkVGSZu5NglCJ Paulina “Pau” Villarreal was born two weeks after Caitlin, on February 5, 2002. She wrote “23”, two years ago for her band, The Warning. She writes most of their lyrics for the band she formed with her older and her younger sisters. She’s the Caitlin Clark of rock music, recognized as the best drummer of her generation. She also plays with the same reckless abandon. A stick of dynamite in a lake of gasoline….

The Fever is lining themselves up to be a Dynesty Team! They know they have a Steph Curry level player, & possibly a Jordan type player as far as the WNBA goes, and they're smart to align the stars at Management level, at player level, & give Caitlin all she needs to be all she can! She's special, and anyone who denies that is flat out lying!

May 4th Carver game needs moved to the Football Stadium with 35, 000 tickers at $22.00... Cheapest seat in Carver is around $250... The Gate should be split 50/50 after expenses to Student Assistance and Caitlin Clark Foundation...

For some, what we've seen recently from the Fever should be pause for thought, it's what we don't see that should cause sleepless nights. Caitlin is the rising tide.

Nice to expand the fanbase to overseas markets. The Fever should schedule more preseason games against national teams.

They need to play the Iowa game in the football stadium, I bet they could sell 50K+ tickets and the WNBA would make the money, not the scalpers.

When the other stars in the W support CC like Arike Ogunbowale, their influence will sway the other players and maybe even some coaches. Then, the league can really grow. The money will come when the CBA is renegotiated after the 2025 season.
