As a retired commuter bus driver I bought two of these for my two four wheelers. I don't care about what's behind me so one camera is enough. I ordered two suction mounts to overcome the stupid sticky mounts as well. I like that they're so easy to use! So thanks for showing us this device!

Regarding sticky tape vs. suction cup - I have a Garmin GPS on a suction cap. If you park your vehicle anywhere where the sun shines on your windshield, those suction cups pop off pretty quick. It even happened a few times while driving, despite having AC blowing. I am not a great fan of suction cups anymore.

There is a third party suction cup for t his that is VERY industrial as far as quality. My Garmin 35 hasn't fallen off yet. I didn't want an adhesive mount in case I wanted to move it.

Samsonite makes a really good one. They have them on eBay for around 18.00 dollars. I got 3 of them at TJMAX for 6.89 each.

Thanks for the information. I am thinking of buying 1 myself. I also see that it has your speed that you are traveling. I agree with you about not being able to see the rear of the vehicle. You would have to buy another one for the back. Be safe out there.

I have had three suction cup dealies mounted on my windshield. Two completley melted when I parked facing the southern US sun and the third came apart when I tried remove it. It melted right to the winshield. Yes, it was my fault; however, suction cups are a windshield mount con. I now use a dash stick on disk to mount my suction cup onto. No more meltdowns.

Hey Jack, really like your review of the Garman. I use a Vantrue OnDash R2 2K HD Dash Cam and I really like it it gives a clear concise picture and is easy to set up also has a suction cup. It's a heavy duty camera you might want to do a review on it. Thanks Jack.

Got the same one, I like it that it's Garmin, I expect it to work longer than 3 months :) I reach up and hit the button to capture the antics of bone head drivers on occasion.

Good review Jack and I hope you don't HAVE to use it. I personally don't care for the suction cup mounts much. After they have been in the direct sun for a bit, they tend to quit working. I think most people would like to have a permanent mount with the sticky tape. Just my opinion. I do see on e-bay there is a suction mount you can buy if you prefer that type of mount. I'm lookin at dash cams since I've had way too many close calls people cutting me off etc. I heard some reviews on amazon said it doesn't have sound is that right. And how long will a recording last meaning if I go in sleeper or a truck stop for 6/8 hrs n come out to someone takin my hood off, will it still have it so I can go back n look or does it record over it

Have a mini 0806 which has suffered battery failure - gets pretty hot here in Aus - and research suggests a capacitor is preferable to a battery for the next camera Jack. Also the micro SD card limited to 64GB in the Garmin is less than the 200GB on offer from say Street Guardian SG9665GC. Would appreciate your thoughts Jack in view of what you purchased. I bought a Vantrue N1 based on Techmoan's review. I've been disappointed by the HDR footage (lots of stutter) and a lot of mosquito noise at night. Disabling HDR fixed the stuttering, but highlights (like sun reflections) are big white blobs. Even allowing for KZbin's compression, your Garmin video is excellent. I also like the coordinate and speed info. I think I'll get one of these for forward vision and relegate the N1 to rear guard, lol.

i have this same cam. mine died but garmin jas it fixed and back really fast. the downside to no suction mount is hard to swap i use one camera for both the truck and the 4 wheeler. because of the location of the ball on tje camera it limits the mounts but the arkon mounts are good quality and inexpensive and work great with this camera. it will read a license plate most of the time too when moving.

I was curious, how do you like the functioning of this dash cam? Use it often? I'm on the market for another dash cam, I have 3 of the dash cam 20's. They work really well also. I had a issue in the past with a Garmin virb about it not actually recording when it said it was. Any issues with this one

Jack I know mine will save an event if you hit a pot hole or go over a big bump you will hear it beep, and it will save it.

Those are GoPro cameras for the entertainment part of what we do but not for safety...However I have heard of guys using GoPros to protect their trucks.

For me I have 3 of the dash cam 20's with no issues about lock up's or freezes while in use other than one I dropped pretty hard one time which is totally my fault. It records and does everything fine other than wont cut off on its on properly now, have to unplug from the power source and press the turn off or continue to record button when you get to where your going.

It probably saves 'event's' because your g-sensor is on, i had it put on light, but still it saved events, even for driving over a bump in the road, so i put the g-sensor 'off'', otherwise your sd-card gets full of unwanted events, hope you think my info is usefull to you in any way. Btw, my garmin is 5 years, I put a 32Gb sd in it, i was about the first in Belgium to have it in my car, & today, there are still people that think it's a satnav hehe

If I understand correctly, one must press save, otherwise you're just shooting video like looking out a window. So if someone pulls in front of you and slams on their brakes, you're SOL because there was no save?

Suction cups sucks ! To remove sticky mount, just heat up the mount gently and carefully and it will come out easily. Use the heat gun on a low setting !!

TK well sir, I just mounted mine which I picked up today. i have a 2014 389 fitz glider. id be more than happy to show you some pics or what ever. i will say, with the angled windows, its not to bad. i also have a 14" drop visor. its tough to get a full clear screen without the drop visor but its not bad.

Review doesn't show mount, maybe it didn't come with mount? I know you commented on it but I didn't see you take it out of the box. Regarding front end collision, and anything else, burden of proof lies on the plaintiff. We can also use these to help keep others safe as well. More cams = more safety from criminals.

+Thom McHugh it comes with a mount and I still use the same camera and the same amount that came with the package. So far I haven't had any problems with this camera other than the fact that it uses up SD cards quickly and makes them unusable.

I wonder how recording MPH has worked out, legally. It's great for fat trucks who can't even make the speed limit, but what if you're empty and want to keep up with the flow of traffic? Seems like a speed readout could turn into "auto-guilt" in the hands of a lawyer - regardless of common practice.

Man I really liked the camera until Jack said that there was No suction cup that came with it, now that can really be a BIG drawback, and I know you probaly have to purchase the suction cup portion of the unit seperatley.....thats a real shame about the suction cup missing from the package, I have tape on my dash for certain things but I dont think I would put one on my windshield......Now they only thing about suction cups that I have always had a problem with is that you must remember to clean the area of the windshield where you are going to mount it really good, or the suction cup will not stay put. I have a navagation that I use a lot, and I have had it fall off my windshield a number of times while I am driving and that becomes a major problem when I am driving, I know that it has that little lever on the suction cup that I guess you are supposed to press in to lock it, but sometimes that doesn't make it stay on the windshield, the windshield must be clean

You can buy heavy duty velcro strips to mount it to the windshield. I personally hate any suction cup type mount they always pop off. Velcro the only time it will come off is when you take it off.

This dashcam really sucks...WARNING. The big problem, you MUST use the cigarette lighter with its attached (short) cable. No way is it long enough to hide the cable. AND, if you use any other cable to power it (from say, a USB adapter or port on my car), you get a Use Mass Storage, Yes/No that takes two clicks on the dashcam to dismiss....and you must do that EVERY TIME you start the car. I spoke to Garmin about this, too bad they say. Taking it back to Best Buy. Better cameras are available for WAY less. BTW, disabling the two USB data wires is not a solution, this dashcam uses a 17kohm resistor between pins 4 and 5 on the mini plug to trigger the Mass Storage.

Recently .I'm a fan of Garmin GPS for many year after quit TomTom. But Garmin GPS stuff very expensive ( kinda ripoff ) piece shit gps . I'm glad Apple, Samsung smart phone on the market got free maps app ..Even Garmin maps software was too many mistake ( suck ).." Thankyou Google maps app ". Nowaday Garmin trying to compete cameras on the market .The way is look on Garmin camera so ugly shit ,also, expensive too ..Caused my job got to drive daily basic ,that's why im really needed GPS other then that with the Brand Garmin i'll never even spent times to looking at ...Those brand Garmin, Sear, K-mart, Radio-Shack....ETC....ETC .... let them all out of business ,All their product made in china and bring back to the US then sell for good, Too expensive , Totally Scam, Fucking Ripoff ...I never refer to friends these brands.
