What I've come to appreciate is that while Indy experiences character growth throughout the films, it is not linear character growth... He falls back into his old habbits, like most people do. While Indy at the end of the Last Crusade is a much better person than he was at the beginning of Temple of Doom, he's still a guy who just left the woman of his life because he was scared of commitment. Even his father reverts back to his old ways after he calls Indy Indiana. That's clever writing. The irony of archaeologists who fails to truly learn from his past. That's history in a nutshell.

“What did you find Dad?” “Illumination” What a wholesome story to read. I went to see this with my Dad as well, 15 years after seeing Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in the theatre together. The greatest childhood memories I have of my Dad honestly is him introducing these films and many more to me as a kid. Always had a deep admiration for the magic of films and story telling. As a Spielberg nerd, his visual language is very noticeably missing. But that doesn't make Dial bad or poorly made. This is one of the only mega studio films/legacy sequel recently that feels like it comes from a place of genuine care for the characters and story - a true sense of creative honesty. I went in simply expecting a bunch of easy fanservice and callbacks and modern franchise gimmicks but didn't get any. It's just...a story. An ending. What little overt fan service there is is either very minor or earned through being filtered through the film's themes and arcs. I'm not one of those jaded film nerds who openly just hates and balks at anything fan servicey. I'm a fan, service me. But there is way to lampshade it and make it work and a way that just feels cheap and easy. I wasn't aware of just how rote fan service has felt for me until this film made me perk up with how..."traditional" for the lack of a better term, the narrative approach was. I can sit here and whine about CGI here, green screen there, like every other nerd on twitter who wants to act like modern film is all soulless garbage, but I won't because the film is damn good and those small issues are just that - small issues. The more I sit with Dial the more I love it. As someone who is Spielberg pilled I will always kinda miss his supernatural gift for composition, blocking, and action directing, but it's just a thing we have to get over. And like I said, his absence doesn't mean Dial is suddenly of poor quality. Mangold did the work and it shows.

we all love Spielberg - but i can't believe how bad some of his editing is in the series. e.g..Indy going to get crushed by a wheel...14 seconds - later he's still in the same position. also, a lot of dummies on show in 1-3. are we actually overrating him?

I like to believe that while I enjoy nostalgia, I'm not going to be blinded by it to make up an imaginary high horse where everything I had during my childhood was awesome, and that there is absolutely zero value in anything being released now. Kingdom of the Crystal skull bored me to death back then as it still does right now, I still don't think the Star Wars prequels are good even though I grew up when they were being released, I don't think there was a good Fox X-Men movie until First Class, the more I think about Return of the Jedi the more I think the film would have been a better conclusion if Kurtz had stuck around to refine some of Lucas's ideas, I think The Batman is better than any past live-action Batman movie ever made, and even though I grew up with the Mike Young He-Man reboot, I think the Dreamworks She-Ra reboot is without a doubt the best Masters of the Universe series ever made, and Revelation is in second place. It's called survivor bias. As much as reactionaries deny it, past decades also grew up with crap. Mystery Science Theater 3000, perhaps the most iconic show of the nineties, was all about some comedians making fun of terrible movies, almost all of which were from the forties to the eighties. And they got ten seasons out of it. And I like to say I would gladly take ten Terminator Genisys's, ten Rise of Skywalkers, or ten Jurassic World: Dominions, in order to get just one The Last Jedi, Matrix Ressurrections, or Dial of Destiny. Seen it three times, and I can tell every second of Indiana 5 was made with love, care, and a strife to do the best they could with the story of a classic hero reaching a bittersweet ending while still leaving enough small callbacks to satisfy longtime fans while still making it a great adventure for everyone. And fuck it, in this day and political climate, it's just nice to see a movie unapologetically show fascists getting btfoed.

@@SuperboyBeyond No. You don't know what you're talking about. Skull is still very recognizable as a Spielberg film. The shot composition, the blocking, his use of shadow, the way he moves the camera, etc. What you're getting hung up on is CGI and the film's original color grade, which was corrected in the 4K release and on D+.

@@nope5657 The thing with me and Crystal Skull is that while I do think it's a Spielberg film visually, I think something is up with the footage despite the language. I've seen the film from multiple releases and no matter what, everything looks too glossy and has a "vaseline" type affect and the whites look overexposed A LOT. I remember Kingdom of the Crystal Skull looking too "glowy" or "fuzzy" if that makes sense. I'd really want to know the full story of how the footage was handled.

Blame the budget. While I ultimately don't care what movies cost and make, there is no denying these budgets lately are insane. This film should not have cost $300 million. It just shouldn't have. That's crazy. If it was made for $150 million we would already be seeing profit. People who cheer on the success or failure of a film, who yell the loudest about B.O. takes and budgets, are always the most ill informed of the bunch. In no world with responsible Hollywood budgeting would a film that made over $200 million in a week be seen as a flop. But because Hollywood gonna Hollywood, that is now the reality we live in.

I hope this movie gets rediscovered by audiences in the future and gets the love it deserves. The more times I rewatch it, the more I grow to appreciate what it's doing thematically. Raiders was fun, Temple was dark, Crusade was warm and sweet, Crystal Skull was goofy, and Dial is melancholic. Each movie in the franchise has it's own quality, but more often than not it gets hated on for not being Raiders. As someone who loves themes of family, redemption and loss, this one is increasingly growing to become one of my favorites up there with Last Crusade.

You nailed it. Explained it far better than I could. One detail I noticed is Indy's excuse for not contacting Marion. "She doesn't want to talk to me". Well, clearly she did, since Helena (a total stranger to Marion) was able to convince her to come back into his life. Marion clearly wanted to mend things. But Indy was just so inconsolable with grief that she couldn't reach him. It took her confronting him when he's most vulnerable, unable to just run away from another problem for them to reconcile and move forward. I found this a very heartfelt film, in addition to being just a fun final adventure for my favorite movie hero. It's a damn shame it's underperforming.

The thing that I appreciated about Dial of Destiny is that Mangold found a way to insult fascism in a different way that still continued how Spielberg did so in the original trilogy. The Nazis were obsessed and fetishized a glorious view on Roman culture, believing that they were the continuation of the glorious Empire and that they would carry on the legacy of the superior race for thousands of years. Then the Nazis go back in time and it turns out the Romans are the ones that end up killing them. IE the movie subtlety tells us that the narratives Nazis made isn't even true. The people they idolized also hate them. Also, the Nazis believed in a mythologized and non-existent past so I think the time travels tuff fits in wonderfully with the themes. The Nazis plan to begin with was ridiculous. You can't recreate the past or burry yourself in it. And Voller and his friends learned that the hard way.

Saw it in IMAX theaters twice. Not a perfect film, but still a very fitting conclusion to the beloved character, as well as containing some epic action, great cinematography, and character work with themes of past vs future for Indy’s final adventure.

HA! That is odd considering its only one person saying this. How is that enough to change your mind? That is just ridiculous and if you are a fan of this movie or think it has any value then you are just as lost as the ones who are looking forward to seeing this thinking it holds any merit. This is LUCASFILM DISNEY we are talking about here, so of course any movie is going to be WOKE and done so in a terrible way and its quite evident here worse than in the Star Wars sequels. For many years the Star Wars prequels were seemingly hated by most, but now many fans (including myself) are big supporters of the prequel trilogy that George Lucas created. Before going to the cinema, I've heard lots of negative reviews. I was aware that I can be disappointed - but that didn't happen!!! What I got was a GREAT movie, with fantastic opening (that John Williams' theme from Last Crusade when Indy rapidly turned towards the train... I still have chills) and really good main part of the film. I've seen these videos with titles screaming 'Phoebie takes over the movie / destroys Indiana Jones'- NOTHING LIKE THIS HAPPENED. Yes she had her own motivation, but she was one character, and Indy was another - and he was doing all the stuff Indiana Jones should be doing, in Indiana Jones' fashion, in cool locations, solving riddles and uncovering new pieces of the puzzle and with a heartwarming ending. I was very satisfied with this movie, I don't get why is everyone ganging up on it so much.

This was a fit ending for Indiana, if they left it off on Crystal Skull I would have felt a bit disappointed. People labeled this movie off when they realized it would be a Disney movie. I’m not the biggest fan of modern Disney but they weren’t just grabbing for money, this is what I waited for and it was worth it.

Great analysis about the film and all its characters and their motivations. 16:50 And the points made when talking about the nazis in the film waging war on the past and then them also literally shooting at ancient cultures' warriors of cultures they supposedly reveered. Man, the Indiana Jones films hit the nail on the head about Nazis' "archeology" and "history".

I really appreciate that someone actually watched the movie and saw what Mangold was attempting to create. I thought this movie was a moving depiction of a man whose time has come and gone and his struggle with his regrets. I would disagree about the whole Continental drift scene though. I saw it as Indy trying to plant doubt in Voller’s mind so he would turn back. Indy knew where they were headed after he spotted Voller’s watch being the same one Archemides was wearing in the tomb. The dial only leads back to one point in time.

The only reason people started to form opinions before it came out was because of Disney's ties with Kathleen Kennedy. Had this movie been delayed just one more time, or had waited to be made and released until further after Disney fired Kathleen Kennedy, this movie would've been seen as a masterpiece. PW-B may have even been given a bit of a second chance, as her character actually doesn't try to replace Indiana Jones. And while her character doesn't have the greatest arc or dialogue or choices due to writing, Helena still brings something to the table and pays respect to Indiana Jones. Eventually by the end, starting to get the idea of "the penitent man will symbolically kneel." Technically in a way reminding Indiana Jones that just as the Nazi's failed to realize, he belongs in his own time, that in order to save history, he must let it remain and return to his own time. To turn away. Just as Indy chose to turn away from finding what the ark held, to turn away from the idea of having all the stones and sacrificing two for one to save the village and his companions, to turn away and let the grail go, and even to turn away from the gift of the alien and the treasures held in the ufo. And again, while this isn't exactly executed as well as it could've been, it still does fall in line with the idea. This movie suffered not because of the actors the characters the direction, but because of simply being made at the wrong place at the wrong time. Again, just one last delay or just waiting a little while longer would've saved this movie. So yes I think the movie is great. I think it deserves another chance.

There’s a new movie that calls itself Indiana Jones (don’t watch it, it’s…sad, and mean-spirited), which basically gives Indy the same treatment Han Solo, Leia, and Luke Skywalker got in those movies that came out between 2015 and 2019; the same treatment Obi Wan just got in the Obi Wa-…I’m sorry, the Reeva show; the same treatment Bruce Banner got in She-Hulk.

I read a comment from another review and it was spot on. The first time viewing the movie i was preoccupied with hoping it wasnt awful that i didnt take the time to enjoy it. On a second viewing i was able to sit back, relax and thoroughly enjoyed it! With that said, it wasnt a perfect movie and i thought the main downfall was the helena shaw character. I dont know if it was the actress that didnt work (im not overly familiar with her previous work) or the material. Either way i didnt find myself forming any attachment or emotional connection with her. I think that if they could have brought Short Round(keep the young boy in the movie still as Short Rounds sidekick) back in place of helena shaw character, and do the exact same story(minus the god daughter part of course) it would have been even BETTER. Indy did find him when he was young stealing in the streets and to have him come back and try to hoodwink indy only to fall in love with him again and go on one last adventure would have been a wonderful full circle ending(marion included of course)

Wait 10 years people will appreciate the whole Indy franchise, I swear the fanbase is split some like crystal skull and some hate it and some love all three first movies and some hate temple of doom and some love it and even last crusade some hate it but majority love it including myself it’s my favorite, some love raiders and some hate it so it’s very split and now dial it seems like 90% hate it and only 10% just like it but we will see how the future looks. It's fine to enjoy it, but it wasn't good. For me: 4/10 - at least it wasn't aliens. The writing is clumsy, the pacing is weird, the nostalgia is shoe-horned (and I found it odd that the video suggests it doesn't do this), there are a few good moments (2 off the top of my head: Indie mentioning his friend just died and talking about Mutt dying in 'nam), there are far too many things that don't make sense not least of all Indie being taken prisoner after he's shot, lots of people die and nobody seems to care (is that a modern thing? Thinking that death is no big deal?)... it was watchable, but anyone intellectualising this movie is a grade-A bozo.

I really think people just had a hate boner for this movie because it was genuinely solid. Nothing about it was offensive or did a disservice to the character and people saying otherwise are the ones who are trying to cling to an unrealistic idea of a character. I liked that they showed indiana joned has aged, I think they handled it well and with respect. So the people making claims that “this isn’t even his movie” are talking out their ass. I think his goddaughter was totally fine in the movie. I didn’t love her but I definitely didn’t hate her. People saying there was anything “woke” about this movie legitimately just hate women because there wasn’t a single woke aspect of the movie.

Great video! Interesting how this and The Flash seemed to both have the anti-nostalgia undercurrents to them as you pointed out! While I was disappointed with this film in comparison to how great I think it could have been, I still loved it as a massive fan of the franchise. I just wish there was some way to have weaved Short Round into this since almost everyone loves him (and Ke Huy Quan is suddenly back as well), I think it would have been so cool to see him as an adult and see where he’s at… I almost kind of think they could have told this same story basically but have Short Round in place of Helena or something. 🤔

Indiana needed to come to the realization to go back to '69 by himself. I get as a character he always needed that extra 'punch' to pull him through but it was a divisive dsc. Antonio Banderas = EXPAND THE ROLE "Are you back, Indy?" Every Indiana Jones sequel has had it's share of hate from some fans and audiences. I remember reading reviews of The Last Crusade giving it 2/5 stars but now it's loved. Dial of Destiny is superb fun and a great Indy adventure that is miles better than Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. It evokes the magic from the original trilogy perfectly and Mads Mikleson is quite possibly my favorite Indy villain. Also Harrison Ford's performance is on point.

I am so grateful to have a critic that actually told the truth about this movie instead of bad mounting it for no reason even before it came out. But many of the critics I think had to be a special type of Sob to bad mouth A character that meant so much for so many people for no good reason. I was really scared to see this movie, but after watching it I was so happy. After reading some of the reviews, I felt like I had no idea what movie the critics watched. I loved it. The ending was super cool, reminds me of something I would have done with toy soldiers years ago. I feel like there's a very strange hate campaign for this movie- there's so much hatred and vitriol directed towards it. Is it the best Indy movie of all time? No, but it is really good! I reluctantly went to see this movie last week and fully expected to be disappointed. There are 4 franchises that defined my childhood. These are Star Wars, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Carribbean and, of course, Indiana Jones. I was excited to see the Star Wars sequels and still remember how disappointed I felt after watching The Force Awakens, and it didn't get much better from there. The first Fantastic Beast movie was really good imo, but the sequel was an inexcusable mess and I still haven't bothered to watch the 3rd one (and if you told my younger self that in the future I couldn't be bothered to watch a Harry Potter movie, I'd laugh in your face). Pirates of the Carribbean 5 was an embarrasment with abysmal pacing and cringeworthy humour. Three of my favourite franchises utterly wasted, their legacies stained by these failures. I figured it was finally time for Indy to share their fate. But it felt right to say goodbye to the character and series that means so much to me in the cinema. So I went and... I had a damn good time. It's not a masterpiece, but compared to those other legacy sequels, it's on an entirely different level. It's a fun, action packed adventure that feels like an Indy movie. The action setpieces are all fun, the villains are just as cartoonishly evil as nazis in an Indy movie should be (and Mads Mikkelsen does a great job at playing Voller), the humour works, and the finale, while bonkers, is pretty damn epic. I've seen people hating on Helena, saying that she's a woke feminazi character who exists to mock Indy because the evil Kathleen Kennedy hates white male protagonists or whatever, and I can only assume that people who spout this nonsense haven't seen the film. Indy is still the tough badass we know and love; yeah, he's older, but the movie doesn't show him as weak, he still kicks ass. And Indy was always rather vulnerable for an action hero; he gets beaten hard and almost dies in basically every movie. Besides, Helena never overshadows him; she learns from him, the experience helps her develop as a person and I found their dynamic really enjoyable. Yeah, she mocks Indy early on, but first, this is explicitely framed as a character flaw, not some girlboss attitude, and she grows to respect him by the end. And two, literally every female sidekick Indy had bickered with him all the time. Marion literally hits him the first time they meet in Raiders, Willie hates him for half of Temple, and Elsa literally betrays him and joins the nazis for gods sake. But now it's suddenly a problem when Helena doesn't show Indy proper respect? I assume this idiotic narrative was devised by the anti-sjw content creators, you know, the people who literally make a living by screaming and kicking every time a woman or a minority appears in a modern piece of media. In the end, this is a fun blockbuster that brought me back to the good old days; before the multiverse, before superhero fever, before cinematic universes; back to when you could just get a mostly self-contained, fun adventure that doesn't need to set up fifty sequels and spin-offs. TL;DR: If you're a fan of Indy, go see it. It's not as good as the first three; but then what is? The worst thing you can say about it is that it's a good movie in a series of masterpieces. I may have some issues with it, but in the end, I think it's a worthy final adventure for one of the greatest heroes in movie history.

Nowadays people want to get value for their movie ticket purchase and that is a premium price at the moment. Any doubtful reviews really are putting cinema goers off and not surprisingly people don't want to waste their money. Obviously many would not rush to the cinemas and instead wait for it to hit streaming services or PayTV/DVD/Blu-Ray where they can take the 'risk' or watch it twice or three times for less money.

Thank you for, as i did, seeing more in the movie that all the hater analysis on KZbin are giving us. People can't read undertones and subtext and need everything to be seen and explained on camera. The movie has its flaws, but i loved it and gave me everything o was wishing of a farewell to my favorite hero. I personally really liked the film. Indy and Helena is such a good dynamic that I think put a spin on what was done previously. She definitely felt like a breath of fresh air to the trope of “damsel caught by bad guy and used for the plot” and actually can kick ass and is a pretty sweet character to bounce off with Indy. Harrison Ford of course still rocking the fedora, jacket, and whip like it’s 1981, but they smartly didn’t make him in his later years as invincible as he probably was in the Raiders years. He is smart, but impatient. He is resourceful, but often is surprised by some things he previously overlooked. He definitely has earned retiring the character, and I think it was a very poetic end to the legend of Indiana Jones. The villains, while yes it’s Nazis again, I think do work very well here with their plot and the dial and in the end it really was their hubris and cocky attitudes that was their own undoing (like in Raiders and Last Crusade). I don’t even mind that Indy wasn’t really that big of a player in the final act, as in Raiders he was literally tied to a chair with his eyes shut for like 20 minutes while the Nazis got blown half to hell. At least he was there, and that’s all that matters. Overall, not a perfect end (cause no film is perfect), but a damn great movie and a solid end to one of the greatest movie legends on the silver screen.

just waiting to see filmspeak tag on jontron’s “that one didn’t age quite so well” to this one. for me, i think this is what i call “last jedi syndrome.” in 2017, i was absolutely crazy for the last jedi, totally convinced it was absolutely amazing and one of the best of the franchise. i’d fight with my friends all the time telling them they just didn’t get it, and then, gradually, i finally got it. it wasn’t that i was a sheep and was engaging in groupthink, but i started to take personal issue with the direction the higher ups were taking with the legacy characters. i started to feel like the last jedi was almost disrespecting pre established elements that made the themes of the initial films resonant, and felt the movie degraded our characters more than it celebrated them. for dial of destiny, it’s much of the same to me, with a movie so corporately made, it lacks any soul or identity whatsoever. nothing going on feels like there are actual fans of the characters making the movie, and a real sense of half-baked corporate greed is really really felt. to me, this take has the last jedi syndrome written all over it, something i couldn’t understand until i took off the hype goggles. if you genuinely enjoyed the movie then great, but im just saying, i thought i genuinely enjoyed the last jedi. this fell flat for me big time.

Your right Indy 5 is a really good movie people just don't want to watch Indy in a time of old age where Dr Jones can't do the thing he used to do in his old films I don't care if Indy 5 is bombing at the box office I just want to see an Indiana Jones movie in theatres so in conclusion Indy 5 is a worth to watch movie and people should give it a chance

The reason you felt the need to do that is because you're asserting your opinion in implicit opposition to the vast majority of reviewers (i.e. anyone with an ounce of taste and half a brain) who are correctly calling this film out for being garbage. And not only is it one of the biggest disasters in movie history (not surprising since it was made by the most incompetent producer in movie history) it's going to be viewed even more unfavorably as time goes by, because that's what always happens to woke trash. But keep living in your fantasy-world if that makes you happy.

Genuinely really liked the film, it's a solid swan song and final outing for Indy. I do think there's something to be said about how much people were upset that Han Solo didn't change over the years and was still doing the same thing he always does in The Force Awakens, so they tried to take that to heart with Indy. He's not going to be the same anymore. He's old, he's tired and embittered. All of his friends are slowly dying or moving on and he's left alone in the aftermath of his son's death. Part of me wishes they could've brought Shia back but I think the way they handled his character was ultimately very respectful and worked really well as a way to provide a foundation to Indy's arc in the film.

Absolutely flawlessly stated! In my mind this was a second attempt at a great Indy IV and this one lands. That other one was a non canon direct to video knockoff. And I feel that while Last Crusade functions as the last movie, Dial of Destiny functions as an epilogue.

A TERRIFIC VIDEO ESSAY...I agree, this movie is FANTASTIC! ... An exciting, thrilling, and thoroughly entertaining film... and a touching and moving film as well... I haven't had a cinematic experience like this in quite some time, that's for sure.. As a 1st generation fan, who has been one since 1981 when I first saw ROTLA when I was 14 years old, I absolutely LOVED Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny! What can I say... Harrison Ford was BRILLIANT (as always!)... What a joy it was to see one of the LAST GREAT MOVIE STARS up there on the big screen giving it his all! DOD was a more than fitting send-off for my favorite whip-cracking archeologist, and a huge part of that success is all thanks to the great Harrison Ford!... Phoebe Waller-Bridge (who I had never heard of, aside from her small part in Solo) was also outstanding as Indy's latest co-adventurer... I really liked the character of Helena Shaw... What a breath of fresh air she was... I thought that the actress did a "Phoebe-nominal" job!... As a HUGE George Lucas/Steven Spielberg fan, I was initially worried to know that the two of them would not be DIRECTLY involved with this film, but director James Mangold (who I also knew nothing about, having not seen any of his previous films) and his writers KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK... You can just tell from interviews with him that Mangold has a massive sincere appreciation for Indiana Jones and its legacy, and for Harrison Ford, George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, and John Williams... And speaking of John Williams... What can I say, the man is truly the GREATEST FILM COMPOSER of all time, even after 91 years (like we all don't know that ALREADY, right?). Not only was DOD a thrilling rollercoaster ride of a movie with some great new characters, incredible visuals and exotic locations, amazing action sequences, a terrific "McGuffin" ,and a wildly over-the-top "bonkers" ending (which I loved!), but it was also a very poignant, introspective reflection of Indiana Jones himself, how history has defined him, and his place in history... The movie had such incredible emotional weight and HEART to it... And I absolutely LOVED that. I will admit it... I got a bit "choked-up and teary-eyed" a few times during this movie... Sallah begging Indy to let him go with him on one last adventure, and Indy telling his friend to stay, Indy lamenting the death of his son Mutt, Indy expressing his awe at seeing history unfolding before his very eyes, his wanting to stay, and Helena's plea for him to return... Indy and Marion reuniting at the end... "WOW". Yes, I got "emotional" in an Indiana Jones movie... And it felt GREAT! At this moment, having only seen DOD once, I would rank and rate the series like this: #1 - RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK .........................(10/10) #2 - THE TEMPLE OF DOOM.................................(10/10) #3 - THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL.....(10/10) #4 - THE LAST CRUSADE......................................(10/10) #5 - THE DIAL OF DESTINY....................................(10/10) I can't help but give them ALL a 10/10, because I love them all so much.. . ROTLA and TOD are both on my "Top 10 Greatest Films of All Time" list... These first two films are PERFECT... They have been, are, and always will be the BEST Indiana Jones movies.. Nothing can touch these two CLASSICS... And TLC, KOTCS, and DOD are not too far behind!... And "YES", you read correctly... I ranked KOTCS at #3 and 10/10... I absolutely ADORE the film, and it does NOT deserve the hate that it gets! Regarding my list... At the moment, I did put DOD last on my list at #5, only because my love of the four Classic films from Lucas and Spielberg knows no end... They are all THAT special to me, having been in my life for so long... But I do love all five films equally for different reasons... And who knows... maybe after seeing DOD a few more times, I could possibly see a time in the future where I find myself bumping it up a notch to #4... over TLC (which, even though I absolutely adore TLC, I find it to be the "slightly weaker" film out of the first four)... Time will tell! In conclusion... I absolutely LOVE the Indiana Jones series created by my filmmaking hero, George Lucas... I have ALWAYS loved the first four films with a passion... and now I can happily say that I love ALL FIVE films with a passion... DOD was a thrilling joyride down memory lane, reminding us why we loved those first four films, and at the same time giving us a reason to love this newest entry for its own amazing merits... In the end, time will be very kind to this fabulous film! And always remember... IF ADVENTURE HAS A NAME, IT MUST BE INDIANA JONES! Again... "BRAVO!" for this amazing video essay! Oh trust me, the mixed to negative reception for this movie is 100% just and well deserved. It pains me on how the movie treated Indy with literally 0 respect for the character and his history. The ending wasn't earned and the movie was boring and soulless. The villain was bland and boring compared to the previous 4. Helena was an unlikable egotistical toxic woman who from the very start constantly mocks and belittles Indy throughout most of the film cause he's "old" and stuff was just hard to watch especially since he lost his only son and going through and divorce which is just more salt on the wound. The flashback scene from the beginning of the movie, Him and Marion reconciling at the end of the movie and the closing final shot of Indy's hat was the only good parts of the movie. We didn't need this movie, we didn't want this movie. This flim much like the Star Wars Sequels will be nothing more but a nearly forgotten product of its time with only a certain portion of people still watching it while others will stick to the original 3 films and heck maybe the 4th film as well. Say what you want about Crystal Skull and yes it has its flaws but at least it gave a much better send off to Indy than this movie ever could.

I have to admit I very much liked it, the storyline was much easier to understand than his 2008 movie., and the action scenes were very very Indiana. oki, you wouldn't expect another Raiders of the lost Ark as he was in probably his probably later 30s, It was just a bit sour of an 80-year old winning a few punches, and when he got out his whip to keep people away during the half-dial auction was kind-of embarrassing, and maybe he shouldn't of scuba dived. But he has knowledge in his mind, he's very much essential companion, in adventures as he can still read languages, he's just Indiana Jones who can never be replaced.

The lack of Spielberg and Lucas also take away for the overall vibe of these movies. Crystal Skull was a say better send off to Indy. Was it necessary? No, but every movie can earn its existence and Dial of Destiny did it. I didn't think it was a good idea at first, but I saw the movie and enjoyed it. I couldn't deny it and why would I? I don't get why people are so prejudiced these days.

Great review. Just watched this and loved it. This continues my position on the Indy films that it has an odd rule. 1,3, and 5 were the good ones and 2 and 4 felt lacking (As much as i enjoyed Temple of Doom, it certainly was a far more shallow action film. Crystal Skull, on the other hand,...well I don't think much needs to be said about the awful it was.) Dial also solidifies my position that Indy is at his best when fighting Nazis. I think the hate that Dial of Destiny received was mostly trolling. It makes so little sense to me after watching and enjoying this film for so many of the same reasons I enjoyed Raiders and Last Crusade (and to a lesser extent Temple of Doom). This is, in my opinion, the third best in the series and a stellar so long to the character we grew up with.
