Also speaking as someone whos tried it on a 4080 Super I think the main differences for me I noticed while not checking everything in every area was the shadow quality when RT is on I think that's what stood out the most for me AMD Users still getting a great experience at native with the RT baked in otherwise I expected it to look a lot worse considering it's Nvidias baby lol, but really does look nice without all the FULL RT & yes it was really great to see the XTX Running it so well at native on max settings when it has some RT which you can't turn off

Kudos for being one of the few reviewers to call out the lack of FSR upscaling, and XeSS, as well as locking the PT modes out of non Nvidia hardware. I feel like if this were reversed the Internet would be on fire and HUB would be out making videos castigating AMD for anti consumer behavior, but for some reason no one seems to care when it's Nvidia doing it.

Right another marketing game for Nvidia tbh like Cyberpunk still no FSR 2.2 and no FSR 3.1 but everyone is going to use these games to make their argues when clearly Nvidia is paying the devs not to implement the best tech from the competition. This is why I stay away from RTX titles. Callisto didn’t have dlss for a month or two the whole internet raged and cried. Took Cyberpunk forever to update their game and still hasn’t done it properly .

Agree with the settings that are meant for future GPUs. As a guy who made a massive jump from a 960M laptop to a RTX 3080 (had a 5700XT shortly in between then sold it), going back to old games that I was barely able to play at 1080P low settings on my laptop and just cranking them at 4K made me feel as if I was playing remastered versions of the same games.

Path tracing can wait. It's the future but not worth having to upscale for as that degrades image quality anyway. In my humble opinion.

I haven't seen anyone talk about the CPU demands of this game. It can really stress the CPU in and around the Vatican area, i think especially with Full Raytracing enabled. Actually Full Raytracing still looks really really good on my 4080 at 1440pDLSS quality even on my 4koled TV. I noticed that this OLEDTV has much less noticable degradation in image quality when playing below native res compared to all pc monitors i have used in the past.

Not being a fanboy here, but if the RDNA 4 will be capable or performing Path Tracing here, why prevent those future users from making use of the next gen? On my 7900xtx I wouldn't even bother because I know it will fail to do so when PT were activated, unless FSR 3.1 is on set on balanced and PT is only at lowest setting activated, but FSR is totally missing as well. Very weird PC gaming industry nowadays, I hope a patch comes before RDNA 4 comes
@TerraWare27 күн бұрын
Yeah I agree. PT may be difficult now but maybe RX 8000 could have a shot I'd like to see the settings be unlocked for the sake of preservation but also all users who bought it to have access to everything. Maybe since it's an Nvidia sponsored title the effort with the PT and game overall went into taking advantage of Nvidia technologies. I've heard with partnerships of this caliber Nvidia can be pretty hands on with sending engineers, especially being a proprietary engine. It could be a QA issue that these settings may not be ready including FSR. Just a guess, I have no idea obviously. Looking at the ton of other Nvidia sponsored games we have out already they have FSR and even FSR FG with all settings available. I know there's rumors Nvidia paid to not have FSR or PT on Radeon. I don't believe that because it doesn't make sense. It would be the case with other games too. Judging by how this game launched and PT had to arrive through a patch and its still not 100% perfect I think it's a QA issue and will eventually come. Time will tell.
@AMD71827 күн бұрын
Actually, if the 4060 can run PT mode then the XTX should be able to run it as well. Maybe not fully maxed out at 4k native, but should be a very respectable experience at 1440p. It's locked out because it's an Nvidia sponsored title.

I'm quite annoyed they don't have FSR at launch. On my 7800xt at native 3440x1440p, it sometimes drops to 60 in the starting jungle at max settings. With XESS 1.3 quality and FSR FG that would be a nice locked 140 fps. Also the non RT shadows are a huge downgrade from the previous games in this engine, not that surprisingly given this is made for Nvidia cards.

I think i'll still wait for the FSR patch. Even though it runs 'well', the FPS is still not high enough if you are using a high refresh rate 4k screen. Without FSR you are also using 100% of the GPU for only 70-80fps. I like to play most single player games these days at 4k FSR quality, capped to 60/70fps and then use FG to double it to 120/140fps. This way your power consumption is much lower, around 200-250w for a 4k high refresh rate experience, and in games that are CPU limited you don't hit the CPU limit as much and your CPU/PC is also using less power overall. Would also be nice to have the Path Traced Shadows as an option because the shadow draw distance is a bit low without it, not sure if that LOD setting fixes it.

Could've tried the res scale on Steam version but I'm having some framepacing issues on the Steam version that are not there on the GP version. I've been playing the GP version its smoother.
@XDDX_NZ26 күн бұрын
@@TerraWare Yeah I tried that but it didn't seem to give that much extra FPS and was a bit soft. Might as well wait for FSR since the game has some more issues and those might get fixed too. The sad part is that none of the FSR3 mods work on this game either, apparently because it's vulkan. The game pass version also doesn't work with AFMF because there's no profile in the driver for the game and you can't add it in.
@TerraWare26 күн бұрын
@XDDX_NZ I do think FSR not being in the game yet is probably a QA issue and the game was a bit rushed out the door if you look at how so much was added with a day one patch. Reflex doesnt even seem to yet be in game, some frame pacing issues etc. I'd go as far as saying the PT settings is probably a similar thing. Could be leading into crashes for non Nvidia GPU's. I think waiting a bit to play isn't a bad idea.

I also tried from Game pass with my 7900XTX, fortunately with this card theres no need to use FSR at 4K max settings, but that is a little bit strange not having FSR or XESS, also no option for Full RT, I always wanted to try that even on my XTX in order to see that i don't need it and the difference in my perspective is not so much. i fear that the industry turns this way because as you mention, future intel or AMD cards that can take advantage of this not being able to enjoy because of nvidia exclusivity, we need to have all the opcions and all technologies available for every card, please microsoft make it happen that in windows.
@TerraWare27 күн бұрын
Well this is how I feel about it. I don't think there's anything malicious happening here as far as the Nvidia partnership and path tracing. Nvidia are very invested in RT/PT and AI this is no secret and seeing the tech be pushed forward is a good thing imo. I've personally always been interesting in the tech and seeing it be pushed forward is pretty cool. That said I wouldnt want to see these settings be locked behind exclusivity indefinitely. Thankfully that hasn't been the case with all other games. I'm just speculating but judging by how PT was added with a patch and FSR is coming later. It could be a QA issue. Maybe these settings are causing other GPU's to crash. Even DLSS FG doesnt work with HDR enabled. I think the game needed to release a bit later with all these features well implemented and tested for all GPU but this is nothing new in the industry.

@TerraWare mine is actually the gamepass version which is weird haha. I tried everything to sort it out, ddu to uninstall nvidia driver then reinstalled, fresh windows install ( what a waste of time that was lol) I'm not sure if its an issue with Windows 24h2 possibly. I tried setting bios back to stock settings, deleted msi afterburner as that can sometimes cause stutters I've noticed. Nothing works, latency off on the nvidia control panel, vync on, capping it 80 fps seemed to smooth it for a little bit and then it would start becoming off paced again even with the frametimes appearing smooth ( also at times it wouldn't be smooth, at times every 5 seconds it would get a sligglt rough on the frame times, usually when starting the game...goes away after awhile) i just settled using a fixed refresh rate at 60hz which sorts it out but 60fps feels sluggish. Such a pain, putting me off playing lol

Nvidia locking PT is just lame exclusivity. Nothing to do with ray tracing power if it was they wouldn’t let a 3060 run it.
@TerraWare27 күн бұрын
I think it's a QA issue. I don't see how locking PT away from Radeon would be a threat to Nvidia. It would be unplayable even if the settings were there. If that were the case they would've done it in other games.
