My friend and I hiked since when we were kids, in northern Oregon along the Columbia River, where there are many trails up through the forests of the Columbia River gorge. It's considered rain forest, but one of our faves was Eagle Creek, just outside Cascade Locks. They say if it's raining anywhere near the gorge, it's raining at Eagle Creek! One time, we encountered a Mycologist from Portland State U. This guy was just all smiles and ecstatic about the variety and proliferation of specimens, it was November... so it's pretty moist up there then, and he was just thrilled! We started reading and looking at books and stuff- and started harvesting during the day's hike, and when we got to camp sauteed them! Those were lovely days.... good luck to you, and someday I hope you will get the chance to visit my beloved Columbia Gorge, bye fer now, AL

@@teresamycelia Rattle weed aka Black cohosh is a companion plant of ginseng. They thrive in the same niche. When you find rattle weed start looking for Panax quinqifoil. Other notable medicinal plants = hydrastis, snakeroot, dragonstooth. From Dan.

Hey Teresa, our favorite Houisier National forest campground is Buzzard Roost, near tiny town Derby, Magnet , Alton. It's on top of a bluff over The Ohio river, if there is a breeze anywhere, it'll be there. Only 5 sites and a vault toilet, a short hiking trail and nothing else. NF workers told us they were going to start charging to camp, but still free for now. (Don't tell anyone else!) First place I ever saw Coral mushrooms.
