The 27-year gap from 1968 to 1995 is kind of a bummer, because it skips over the huge gains that happened in the ‘70s when wings were openly allowed (vs pretending they weren’t wings in 1969-71) and again in the early ‘80s when ground effects became a thing. 1995 reflects the next big series of gains though, which was the series of engine wars that started with Ilmor launching the Chevy 265A in 1986-87 and continued on the CART side well into the split era.

that 27 year stretch was the most impactful. From barely hitting 150 to 221 being too slow is a huge jump
@pjludda4323 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, the fact it was skipped for me resulted in a down vote. You're forgetting those bad ass 1970's cars, to include Foyt's legendary Coyote. And of course the smexy 2K cars. Bad form to just skip those cars.

@@pjludda4323 I’m guessing it was down to what mods/cars were accessible for the sim but it would have been cool to have a smoother progression.
@pjludda4323 Жыл бұрын
@@de-fault_de-fault Yeah, was thinking that if the creator was trying to actually show the evolution of Indycar, it would probably involve more than iRacing. Which while nice, has no modding community. Probably would have to go back to rFactor1 in order to cover some of this.

Yeah, that is exactly what happened. There's pretty much nothing about that era in all of simracing, such a shame because those were some of the best years. I thought about including one or two F1 cars of that era but decided not to to keep it accurate

Its amazing how realistic the sound is. Because if you ever watch the video of Dario driving Jim Clark's winning car it sounds just like it does here.

Interesting how the 2021 was the fastest race while in 90s they had faster cars. Is that myb bcs of crashes?
@THEWINDTUNNEL Жыл бұрын
There's a lot of factors: The first one is the amount of cautions as you said, only 2 in 2021, the current cars aren't the fastest in qualy trim but are great on race trim: They are easy on tyres (the tyres are also harder), they don't have to decrease turbo boost preassure as much, they are more efficient therefore have smaller fuel tanks, the pitstops are faster thant 25 years ago and track conditions were great that day.
@bobdole574 ай бұрын
When the IR-18 qualifies and does 234mph they are doing that witth 1.5 BAR of boost. Which is much more than the DW-12 ran in 2012 when it first came out. I think they were limited to 1.3BAR. So, some of that speed increase is due to power

It's surreal to watch Greg Moore's Reynard duke it out with Will Power, Scott Dixon and Hélio Castroneves on the brickyard. Oh, what could have been... I am still mad at Tony George for throwing Indycar racing back decades just because he needed to feed his ego. Edit: I just caught a glimpse of the Forsythe Reynard and saw that it's Jacques Villeneuve's number 27, not Greg Moore's 99, which he had in '96 all things considered. But my point still stands. I hate that the split ever happened.

The simulation seems somewhat unrealistic. Ferrari 375 should be miles behind the 1960s Offenhauser roadster. Also, the gap between lotuses 56 and 29 is too big.

Technically you have the power wrong on the turbo cars because 550 is what they have with race boost, the boost is increased for qualifying resulting in more power.
