Its not that nice ever around here. I hate it here in indianapolis. Bad schools housing is crapy. The the amount of houses being built is drastically rising the housing prices are way too much. If i were you i would choose to live in Brownsburg, carmel, fishers, or the south side right down meridian street by southport road. It has some pretty good houses being built that way. Otherwise dont live here it sucks.

It is an underrated city. I stopped once travelling down from Chicago to Nashville in 2016 as nothing more than a lunch stop and I was pleasantly surprised. The downtown area is as nice as any outside the major ones on the coasts. Everything is in such close proximity like the Stadiums, Convention Center, Hospitals, University, State Capitol so theres a decent vibrancy which I have found lacking in a lot of other Midwestern and Southern Cities which have really felt the effects of white flight and deindustrialization. Its quite livable as well, lacks the congestion and living costs of the mega cities like Chicago, Atlanta etc never mind NYC and LA.

Actually its not too bad, this was shot 5 days ago. It is pretty well cleaned up. There are some businesses in downtown still boarded up, but there was still plenty to film. The Gov did good by sending in the National Guard very quick and put a stop to the rioting. Minneapolis could take a lesson from Indy in that regard.

For those that don't like/care to fly or drive, taking Amtrak to Indianapolis is an option. The Cardinal (New York to Chicago via Indianapolis) comes through three times a week. Indianapolis Union Station (the world's first Union Station opened here in 1853) is right downtown. Within walking distance is Lucas Oil Stadium (diagonally across the street from Union Station), Gainbridge Fieldhouse, hotels, nightclubs, restaurants, etc.

I'm a 68 year old man now been living in Alabama for the past 30 years, interstate 65 north will take me straight on into Indianapolis, every time I get on it if something inside of me just wants to keep driving, I lived at 37th and crescent avenue and rode my bike in the Golden Hill Park edition with all my friends, went to the dairy Queen right there on northwestern I think it might be MLK boulevard now I'm not for sure, but after getting us some ice cream be used to jump the fence of crown Hill cemetery and run up to the top of the hill to see that big monument of James Whitcomb Riley. The days of Innocence, PRICELESS ‼️

@@TampaAerialMedia I spent 8 days in Philly walking the city and riding the trolleys to see the old founding sites. Partial genealogy tour. I will check out your video on it. Thank you. My favorite place was the fountain with all the Native American sculptures in it. It’s a grand city where the full plan was never completed, at least they got that one street completed for the exposition.

It resembles the industrial part of Hamburg, Germany regarding the way the canals and parks are being laid out and planned, I am surprised though, I hopefully one day can visit Indianapolis and yes, beautiful downtown, quiet and rather green..

Alexander Ralston laid out Indianapolis based on Pierre l'Enfant's design of Washington, DC (Ralston was l'Enfant's assistant). It was originally planned to be one square mile only, but quickly grew after that, especially after the railroads came to town. In 1970, it was decided to merge the city and county governments to avoid redundancy. The result was called Unigov. Four municipalities declined to join and retain almost fully autonomous: Lawrence, Southport, Beech Grove, Speedway (the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is technically in the town of Speedway).

@@stereoplayers oh how interesting… so when l’Enfant reintegrated and recreated Paris’s boulevards and squares in Washington DC’s design and planning, Ralston had himself inspired by Hamburg and Gdansk (Danzig)

Moved here in 2000 from Dallas, TX and haven't regretted it. Both daughters are Hoosiers. Has a lot to offer in its own right and also a reasonably short drive to a number of moderately large cities .... and of course Chicago. Winters are a little long but manageable and spring and fall are spectacular. Looks like COVID Indy though ... streets are empty, downtown is usually full of people.

@@Imperial0666 - I am not sure what point you are trying to make. Indianapolis is more similar to other midwest moderate sized cities than anything else. Maybe at a 1000 ft view, Dallas and Indy are similar ... like they are both car centric cities ... but otherwise they are very different. By proximity to Chicago, I only say that to mean you could easily make Chicago a day trip from Indy, something I've done many times. You might also be surprised at how many people commute between Chicago and Indy for the work week.
