it is hard to teach a child the impact of these words because they have not yet experienced the tyranny of government. All they know is their parents and how things run at home. When I was a child I didn't care about any of this, it is only until I became an adult with a family to feed and finally experienced the heavy hand of government through its taxation and inflation did I understand the power of these words. You have to be able to relate to it to understand it.

I'm not saying you personally since I have obviously never met you, but a large part of the problem is the public school system indoctrinating kids with the idea that this nation isn't a great one and that something in the Bill of Rights is actually a privilege contingent on membership in a group. My college teacher said just that about that part of the Bill of Rights, I honestly didn't think most students would fall for it, but it is obvious they have in large numbers. It is equally obvious that this is a script, of sorts, because people all over the USA are spouting that nonsensical garbage. The power hungry among us are the ones who removed critical thinking and logic classes from the curriculum. Despots rely on a populace that cannot think and that will react emotionally to things.

Hogwash. Have you actually READ the ENTIRE document? First of all, it has never been LAW. Second, it applied EXCLUSIVELY to ENGLAND. Third, after its immediate purpose the Founders themselves dropped it and moved on. READ it: it DOES NOT include the word "revolution". And it DOES include GRIEVANCES against ENGLAND that are OPPOSITE the false ASSUMPTIONS about the document made by those who HAVE NOT READ IT, these two being directly on point: "He [King George III] has kept among us, in Times of Peace, Standing Armies, without the consent of our Legislatures." "Legislatures" MAKE LAWS; LAWS REGULATE. The military -- which consisted ONLY of the WELL-REGULATED Militia until the forming of the Continental Army by the legislature known as CONGRESS -- is REGULATED AND CONTROLLED UNDER the rule of law. "He [King George III] has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil Power." The "Civil Power" is the CIVILIAN GOV'T -- as in, CIVILIAN rule of the military. There is NO LEGITIMATE military force OUTSIDE the rule of law. The Founders "attacked" and "overthrew" exactly this many gov'ts: ZERO.

Our first physical conflict with the British began in 1775 in Lexington. The British marched to arrest Sam Adams and John Hancock. The British were met by 80 or so militiamen who were ordered to disperse. the minutemen refused. A shot rang out and for the longest time it was debated who shot first but by then, it didn’t matter. 8 minutemen were killed before the British marched on to Concord where they were ambushed and had to retreat to Boston being subjected to ambush after ambush. Later on, at Bunker Hill, the Americans dug themselves in and repelled two British charges before running out of ammo and were forced to retreat. They lost 400 to British’s 1,000+. On surface it looks like American loss, but strategically the British suffered heavy casualties, and it was this became our message to the world that we were not going to go down without a fight.

I occasionally still look up at the painting of Bunker Hill (Gen. Warren) and think "Thanks Grandpa. We'll try to sustain this precious gift." But it gets harder every year as ignorance sweeps through our once cherished institutions and charlatans occupy our various representation. Our current political ecosystem is plagued with profiteers that hold no allegiance to Service and duty is merely an electoral plug word. When elections are won by common people with little interest in public office, we'll know we once again have sound leadership. Sad that only after trauma, pain and horror that such dreams are made manifest.

Man! As an American, I've never heard of the Declaration of Independence in it's entirety. We were really pissed off at King George III.

This was America giving King George III a terrible performance and letting him go. It took six years of savage combat and 25,000 dead on the battlefield to get the point across, but the House of Hanover was nothing if not thick.

I think you may also be looking for, The Constitution of the United States of America, and or the Bill of Rights... It was a not as simple as just throwing the British out.... It was VERY much a struggle in the U.S as well.. Many years of brutal, bloody, war and great suffering with many, many lives lost. The declaration 📜 was simply the start of said struggle. The fist step if you will, in eventually gaining freedom for the American people..

Awesome explanation and conceptualization by you all 👏 i had never really thought about how india and other places like new zealand and australia have/had previously been under the rule of the british empire, and how similar it must have been for you all when you gained your independence. It makes a lot of sense that you would sympathize with the american fight for freedom. The declaration truly is a great historical document.

What is possibly even more amazing to me is Gandhi broke these same shackles non-violently while simultaneously "breaking" the caste system too. Yes, the british raj was not what is once was in 1947 compared to the scope of empire in 1774-1777. But a serious and amazing achievement in and of itself considering all the bloodshed the "tree of liberty" recieved to achieve it here in North America. Of course many died in the Indian struggle for independence too. Also funny to be how both Thomas Jefferson and Ghandi's main weakness was women. History is amazing.

The men who signed the Declaration of Independence faced many consequences, including: Death: Nine signers died before the United States achieved independence, including Button Gwinnett who died in a duel and Thomas Lynch Jr. who drowned in a storm. Imprisonment: Five signers were captured by the British and tortured as traitors. Home loss: At least a dozen signers had their homes ransacked and burned. Financial loss: Some signers who were wealthy in their prime died penniless. For example, Carter Braxton sold his home and properties to pay his debts and died in rags. Family loss: Two signers lost their sons in the war, and two others had sons captured. Other consequences: Some signers lost wives, children, or entire families. All of the signers took a significant risk when they signed the Declaration of Independence. If the colonies had lost the war, the British might have used the signatures as evidence of treason.

Remember, the population of the 13 colonies of the United States was just a small fraction of the population of Britain when this was written. No military or navy vs. Britain's global army and navy.

The line at 4:48 to 5:05 is the most important part of the declaration..if u explore the meaning..it is an outright call for revolution if the System turns against the people in their pursuit of happiness.. No other country in the world has that kinda empowering rights to people. People think this is dramatic because it is too good to be true..

By signing the Declaration of Independence our Founding Father's basically thumbed their noses at the at their time a super power and were saying we willing to hang together because if we don't we will certainly hang separately. !!!!"UP THE REBELS"!!!!

I never thought about this commonality between the US and India. Part of this may be related to the class structure of the US at the time and of India post WWII. Also the Americans, being ostensibly British citizens on the wild frontier were very heavily armed and had just recently participated in the French/Indian war (Native Indians, not India Indians obviously). So there were a lot of available middle-age Americans with hard combat experience against the natives who didn't fight in the polite ways of the European armies. They also had 2nd generation children who were capable of fighting. The British were also fighting a war against the French, so the French helped us out also. King George was also arguably insane, so both American and English diplomats in England were not having much luck reasoning with him.

It’s amazing that almost every signer of the Declaration of Independence was under 40 years of age! They had been through so much with Great Britain and they were brave and wise beyond their years. Thank you Thomas Jefferson and all those wonderful men. Ps. They fought hard for many years against the British to win independence- The British would not just leave. And then they attacked Americans again in 1814! I wouldnt be surprised if they will try it again one day. Thank you for posting this it was lovely and both of you are lovely! 🇺🇸❤️

Keep in mind... At the end, where the undersigned pledged their sacred honor and their lives.... They meant it. And MOST of them ended up paying that price. Their families were murdered, their fortunes stolen.... As an American, I'm more proud of our Indian friends than I can express for gaining their independence from that same crown.

It was unprecedented, because, at that time, the monarchies of Europe still asserted that they ruled by "Divine Right". The Continental Congress was declaring that government's power came not from "God", but, by mandate of the GOVERNED.

The United States Decleration of Independence marks a pivot point in world history. With this declaration people around the world would begin to question the legitimacy of absolute monarchy. Did the king of France have any idea that supporting the American revolution the way he did would lead to his own demise. And the American idea of nationalism would cause the people of German speaking states to unite under eventually a representative style government. It still took decades for Germany to be established but the U.S. constitution demonstrated to the people of Europe how backwards their governments were.
