India and the far east was a huge and important part of Britains history and people from all around the old empire came to live here so, we have all types of food. Indian & Chinese food is common and very popular here. London is a microcosm of the old empire.

Hi Folks, whenever I hear indians questioning food in the UK I simply ask "apart from indian food, what else do you like". When I visited 2 places in india, there was only indian food available, I live in a village in a farming area so I probably have less access to food than most places in the UK. I have access to an American Diner (0.5miles)Indian (2), Chinese(3), Italian(3), Caribbean (3) 6 miles away there are 2 towns which give multiple choices of these plus Turkish, French, etc, the list is endless. (This does not even include pubs where many sell curries) No one, whatever nationality you are, will fail to find food you like.

Awesome you saved me writing almost the same thing immigration from all over the world plus Britains past exploits have given us the best from everywhere with awesome restaurants in every town. I work with a lot of Ghanians and Nigerians 12hr shifts and have this convo from time to time when they tease me for our food, I just point out that they have virtually the same meal 2/3 times a shift everyday which is Jollof style rice or spicy rice with either fish or chicken mixed in and never any dessert type stuff 😂 Variety is the spice of life!

British cuisine is actually all about free choice, we cook each item usually without any added sauces then serve the food plain allowing the individual to add whatever additional flavours they want to their own desired taste, so you can enjoy the flavour of the food itself, like a roast lamb, or add mint and rosemary to increase your enjoyment, the idea that British food is bland comes from countries that create their dishes to be the same for everyone, in Britain if you want to add strong flavours we use things like English Mustard, Worcester Sauce and Horse Radish, three items that even people who eat the most spicy foods would consider strong flavoured.

Apparently it was the American soldiers that said British food was bland. Well at the time WW2 it was true because of rationing. But now when people visit Britain they are quite surprised at how great the food is.

Guns are not a particularly big problem in the UK despite what the media, would have you believe. For a population of 67 million we have about 35 murders using guns per year. So your chances of being kiledl with a gun is roughly 1.9 in a million. Not that there aren't criminals that use guns, but they mainly use them against other criminals in gang wars. Even if you don't kill somebody using a gun in the committing of a crime carries a long sentence. Civilians in the UK are banned from owning pretty much all the most deadly firearms and possessing a firearm illegally guarantees a prison sentence. The minimum sentence for possessing an illegal firearm is 5 years. The vast majority of the British population do not own firearms and in truth the vast majority of criminals don't possess or use firearms. The chances of a policeman encountering somebody with a firearm are quiet small. I know several retired police officers who served in armed response units who never had to fire their weapon at somebody for real during their service. You stand more chance of being struck by lightning than you do by being killed with a gun in the UK.

And I would add, those weapons that are in circulation are often ill-maintained and the 'Gangstas' using them are not trained in firearm use, which is why often innocent bystanders are injured when we do have a rare shooting here.

Some police do have guns, & can be called to help when needed. There are heavily armed police in high security areas around important & Government buildings in London etc. Guns are not a thing in the UK, even criminals very rarely have them. British food is really much better than it's reputation, which stems from the war days when it was very limited. Things have changed a lot since those days. It is far better than American food, & has a very international variety now, with cultures from all round the world bringing their tastes here, especially to the big cities, but British traditional food is very good also.

American food is crap, don't get me wrong they know how to cook relatively good food with poor taw ingredients. The raw ingredients in Britain are generally of very high quality,. The British love to taste the raw ingredients rather than hide them but they also have a deep seeded craving fir spicy as too, it's why we love your food, it has everything to satisfy the British spice craving and then we go back to our tasty raw ingredients for until the next spice craving kicks in.... Will it be a Mexican Or a spicy kebab Or a spicy oriental Or stay with the classic curry CURRY AND CHIIIIIIIIIPPPPPSSS. Classic British Cuisine.

Before retirement, Upton Snodsbury, where we lived had three pubs when we moved there in 1993, and now has only one, which has only remained as a viable business because the owners turned one bar into a Tearoom.

We do have specialist armed response units that usually have a range of firearms in a safe in their car. Standard police are not licensed to use firearms, in fact police firearms officers are more highly trained than regular soldiers with over half that successfully apply for training failing to qualify the the end. Armed police are stationed at airports, they openly carry assault rifles there.

In London and where I live further North, it rains less than 2 days a week on average, and that is mostly in winter and autumn. A 'rainy day' is any day on which more than 0.1 mm of rain falls, just enough to dampen the ground, and London has less than half the annual rainfall than New York on average. However, this year, like Western Europe, it has been one of the wettest years on record. Because our police don't have guns, and our strict gun ownership laws, very few people have guns in the UK. As well as traditional British food we have many international restaurants and takeaways, in my local small town (8000 pop.) we have Thai, Indian (3), Chinese (2) and Italian restaurants plus takeaway places and excellent British restaurants.

We have special gun police who get called out to very serious incidents or incidents involving weapons..they are highly trained. All other police carry tasers that are very effective at incapacitating criminals and are adequate in all but the most dangerous cases.

The weather changes in a heart-beat in England. Its rainy in the morning so you have layers upon layers of clothes and by midday it is roasting hot! All part of the fun :D This video shows beefeaters as if they are cops...they are not. Do NOT ask a beefeater for directions. Cops you can ask. Beefeaters carry weapons and are not "tourist information offices". Cops are friendly because crime in England is so low. Ask cops anything...do not approach the Kings guard please for your own safety.

I think you are getting confused here. The 'Beefeaters', the Yeomen of the Guard. soldiers who have had long service with distinction, are only stationed in the Tower of London, one of their duties being as tour guides and are approachable for information. I think you are referring to the troops in ceremonial dress with the Bearskin headgear, serving soldiers from specific Guards regiments whose duties include guarding Royal establishments and performing ceremonial duties at Royal events, such as the recent Coronation of King Charles.

There are plenty of vegetarian options. Most pubs and restaurants will offer a vegetarian option on their menus and there are purely vegetarian cafes and restuarants in the bigger towns and cities.

What most tourists get wrong in London is the clock tower, they call it Big Ben, in fact the largest bell in the clock is called Big Ben, the clock tower is the Queen Elizabeth clock tower. It is the regular police that don't carry guns, however, we do have armed police for when that is called for, an armed police squad car is never more than a few minutes away from a situation, the airports have armed police on show.

Guns are not common in the UK. UK police do have gun squads that are called upon when needed. Indian type spicy food is very popular in the UK.

I think most gun crimes here are amongst gangs, so it rarely happens out in the open, and when it does, the specialist armed police arrive rapidly to take care of it.

Visitors don't get stung, even the best made umbrella has a lifespan, get a cheapy and make do. High winds will destroy even the best made brolly. Better still get a coat with a hood in winter, autumn, it can be bitter cold due to wind chill. Spring, summer - well we get about 8 weeks of sun like you might be used too and there's no guarantee that's at the same time. So in 4 months (May-August) you get 8 weeks Sun and at any time in that period... That's why we don't have air-conditioning generally, it's just not worth it.

Hi. We have what are called Armed Response Units, effectively a paramilitary unit of the police. When gun crimes are reported it’s these guys who respond as opposed to the regular cops, who are armed with Tazers and pepper spray as standard👍

True but they are not given as standard, they have to have extra training to carry pepper spray or a tazer.

Not all cops carry or want to carry tasers. They simply don't always stop a villain in their tracks. All officers do however carry a truncheon.

If the police are called and the person is carrying a gun then yes the police will turn up with guns, they just don't carry them around on there person

Only officers trained in the use of firearms are allowed to carry guns. About half of armed officers belong to armed specialist quick response units that specialise in violent incidents, while the rest ultimately choose other roles, but are allowed to take and use guns from a stations armory in certain circumstances.

The general police dont need guns becuase crime in general is just very very very low, even our most dangerous cities have homicide rates 10x lower than the safest americans cities. Theres no gun crime either really, last year only 35 deaths were due to gun and you may have heard about knife crime issues this is only highlighted due to our low homicide rates but there are only 250 deaths due to knife per year, this is compared to 30,000 deaths due to gun in the usa and 1600 deaths due to knife in the usa. There are special units that are fully armed and anti terrorism police etc that can be called if theyre needed but most biritsh police day to day deal with situations by defusing and descelating them, theyre well trained to calm situations down restrain people if needed without using lethal force.

We have a very diverse range of foods from many nations, including excellent Indian cuisine, Chinese etc. But traditional British food is also very good and excellent quality. It's a myth that British food is bland and terrible. It came from the WW2 when Britain was almost starved to death, the American soldiers came over here and thought that was how we normally eat.
