It did beautifully actually. It’s intrusion to the driver was minimal and the driver was protected by the nearly full body airbags. You don’t want the structure to be too stiff. If you look at the smart-for-two crash test, the passenger compartment stays intact, but the driver has a bigger chance of dying due to the lack of a crumple zone to absorb the impact, so the body instead took the brunt of it, spiking the deceleration G-forces to a level that a human body can’t handle. The car crumpling as much as possible while being as least invasive to the body as possible, keeps the G-forces lower so the human(s) inside have a better chance of survival. Something well accomplished by most newer cars. :)
