Mahatma Gandhi has influenced me fundamentally. In 1990, I read his autobiography(how many Indians read it) and reflected on what he said. He decided that eggs are not vegetarian(actually they are a hen's periods, if we think seriously about it). I loved omlettes, french toast, cakes, pastas and lots of things containing eggs and gave them all up overnight. Mahatma Gandhi, in essence, championed equality for all Hindus, all Indians and all human beings, and respected diversity. He had a set of beliefs he practiced and did not impose those on others in his politics. Modi's politics are sheer divisive politics, dividing Hindus against each other, and spreading hate and prejudice towards Muslims and Christians. There is only one identity in Modi's world, a Hindu identity, and even many Hindu's hate his definition and interpretation of that identity.

Priyanka mentioned Indian women. My sister, when she was 20, went to wall street and solved a difficult problem for a customer under pressure. The CEO and VPs were all watching anxiously since the customer was key and the company small. She won the company customer service award. Then she became software architect. Now she is a senior executive at a company. It is half of the story.She is a big time Virat Kohli fan. Liked Bhuvi(as she called Bhuvaneshwar Kumar), Bumrah, and even Rituraj Gaekwad, btw. She likes Deepika Padukone(I do not because I feel she made crude comments in an interview). My sister knows our cooking traditions inside and out. Anytime we do the annual ceremonies for our parents,or celebrate Diwali or Janmashtami she makes a feast(and it is part of a wide repertoire including both North and South Indian specialities). She is an expert cook. A brother passed away.She knew what the priest needed to do for the ceremonies(he had a long list). She knows the names of our ancestors and their lagnams in and out, and she knows exactly how the ceremonies are done. I myself gave up italian food because of animal rennet content many years ago. Now I am trying to give up dairy, substituting cows milk with oat milk in my tea and coffee and buying plant based cheeses. It is all tied to the ethical basis of my family's religious practices. Whatever our differences, my sister and I both abhor Modi. He goes against our personal values, respecting choice. Whatever our identities, we don't have the right to dictate to others whether they should believe or not believe and how they practice religion. Ditto with diet.Personal choice is sacred. We won't allow non-veg food in our homes but respect others in the family and order non-veg dishes at restaurants for them when they want those. Modi has caused India to degenerate into Hindu bigotry. The UPA's economic and foreign policies were better than his if anything.
