Man, seeing so many hate comments. But don't worry about them. You've gotten way further than many of them simply by actually finishing and releasing a game. The game might not be the binding of issac, but hey! You got it made. Keep making games and keep improving man!

RealTutsGML Hey zack. I was wondering. With all this hate. Didnt you just make the game to have fun and make a game YOU enjoy? And maybe let other people enjoy it as a bonus. Isnt it about you enjoying so other people can? Maybe they dont see that. Maybe they dont understand how hard it is to make something like this. Well i say good on you for acctually making a game!

Really cool seeing the progress of the game builds! Quick question, is there anywhere you can point me to show how to implement a loading screen where it shows the progress? Or was that merely reflecting the level gen and not things like art assets and such?

I don't think this is a great game or even a game interesting enough to make me want to try. However its not the game that's important here. What's important is that you showed progress and improvement. It's very nice to see how it started and where it ended and knowing what you decided to add or remove along the way. Most videos I've seen about indie game dev either gives bullet point advice on how to get started or shows some time lapse of projects in development. This is encouraging for me as I am attempting to build my first game. :)

I'm curious on how was the creative decision behind having only horizontal shooting? It feel like the game would benefit a lot if it had at least a 4 direction shooting. Great progress btw :D
@RealTutsGML
@RealTutsGML 6 жыл бұрын
I agree, Rexfurry and I had an idea for a 2 directional shooting system but it didn't work exactly how we pictured it would. If I could go back to the design of the game I'd take more time establishing the shooting system. Thank you!

Blood is given so much importance in this game. What is the actual role of blood in the gameplay? It's good that you have made a game and put it on Steam. Keep it up. Don't listen to harsh comments.

While I really like to see you happy about your video game development and I'm thankful too (to some extent, I started creating my first little games with the tutorials on this channel, but realised in the long run that there are far more efficient ways of writing code, iterating through the entities and so on), however I don't like your constant self-congratulation ("good video game" for example). To me the game didn't evolve much. During the prototypes and versions it seems like all you did was add fx and new assets, as well as some cleanup. You never branched out from the initial idea, creating a very one sided game, with some flaws that seem hurtful to the player. Frankly I never played your game, however just from watching it feels like I'd spent one or two times playing through it and then never playing it again, as it seems like a rougelike, without the strengths of the other genre representatives. Especially not being able to shoot up and down, and yes even if it is *intended* it doesn't feel right and is bad game design to some extent, as you artificially give the player difficulty, as the player *expects* something to work, but you don't deliver on that. Enemies wouldn't pose threats if you could aim up and down to me it seems, so I see the flaw in not being able to create a challenging enemy. Also the progression seems really bad to me, the player doesn't seem to get challenged at all, after getting used to the mechanics. Picking up weapons seems luck based and feel bad when you get something worse than what you had and so on. I think you should watch this ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZCTpJ2Kd992jZI ) to learn a bit more about "flow", because solely from a viewers standpoint this seems to be what you lack the most. Yes, you create games for yourself, but I think that the harsh criticism you received should show you that instead of being "happy with how it is" you should continue forward with how you should improve. As you saw thinmatrix as the inspiration for this video, if you skip through some of his devlog videos, you should notice that he has a basic idea and expands on it every now and then, something I don't see in your game. I hope you see this as I intended it all, as well as being able to understand the points I was listing

I didnt reply to any of replies i got or any other comments, but this is ridicolous. It was criticism. Very, very harsh criticism. First of all, the game costs a few bucks. Second of all, I do have games to my name Third of all, even if I didn't have, does it matter? What if I wasnt saying all of that as a game developer and a programmer, but as a gamer? That's too much estimations.

Maxuo Well it isn't very good. Have you played It? You can't shoot up and down, it isn't difficult, there is little to no repeatability, and he is constantly shoving down our throats that "this is a good game" when in reality it's average. I don't like the game but I don't hate it. It just... I don't even know man...

You can see it on SteamSpy. According to it, the game sold 7,438 copies. The price of the game is $3, but some of the copies will have been purchased during a sale, so there's really no saying how much money they made. Proud of them ~

Sometimes it's hard to accept the criticism against someone you look up to. I admire Zach immensely. But the fact of the matter is, the novelty of blood wears off quickly. To summarize, too simple, too easy, too quirky. But it is fun for some time, best of luck to the next project.

Yup, same. This guy doesn't know how to make a game, most of his tutorials are really bad and the code is poorly written, not efficient and...well...bad. The multiplayer tutorial for example, when I watched that, it made me want to kill myself from how bad it is. The funny thing is, in those tutorials he said it's actual worldwide global working multiplayer, while in fact, it was not. It's funny how he just ignores criticism, on his youtube account and on the games store page. Fix the god damn game. Yeah, some people don't understand that the point of it is that you can shoot in only 2 directions, but there are sooooooo many issues with it. Also, look at these comments, people asking how he made the fog and if he can do a tutorial on the blood splatter. These things are soooo easy to implement, clearly shows these people don't know how to code and that's exactly why they think he's good at what he does while he is obviously not. Gotta give him credit for creating a youtube channel with over 50k subs though, as bad as his videos are. Except maybe the Java ones, I don't know about them because I didn't watch them.

Okay listen, I believe this video and my last tutorial is the best content I've ever produced for this channel. As for So Much Blood, you don't understand the actual goal for the video game. It was never to make a viral video game or make it this perfect game that everybody liked. I designed a game from start to finish and fixed some bugs that people found. It was my design and I never made it to please the masses (especially changing a core mechanic like the shooting system). It had what some people may call "bad game design" but that doesn't make me ignorant for not changing the entire game mechanics. I understand that I can always improve the quality of code in my tutorials, which I'm actively learning new coding techniques and coding small games to present you the best possible solution. Your comments don't go unnoticed and it's not ignorance that holds me back. I've decided to put my efforts into my KZbin channel but it doesn't happen over night. -Zack edit: spelling mistake

Point out specific where the bad practices take place. Writing like this without providing any feedback on WHAT is the problem, actually makes you the problem. You Don't give him any information on what to improve, and THAT is bad practice.
