If you like Metroidvanias, then perhaps Cookie Cutter, Kraino Rebirth and Voidwrought will be to your interest too. And though not Metroidvanias, there's some 2D platformer and high action games such as Decline's Drops, Magenta Horizon, Antonblast and Immortal: And the Death that Follows. The Eternal Life of Goldman too.

Indie games are in a strange spot where they show their inspirations on their sleeves while also evolving that same inspiration in their own way. Balatro is the most notable one for me in this regard. Balatro is obviously a poker game mixed with rougelike elements- two categories that have been abridged so many times. But man does Balatro exceed in everything with so much originality and flare that It’s in contention with Elden Ring and Death Stranding as my favorite game from 2020 onward. Balatro is an indie game that exceeds even conventional indie standards in its style, substance and depth. As always, excellent video (your style is copacetic!)

I recommend everyone at least try Dustforce, it's probably my favorite platformer. The controls take some getting used to, but everything about it feels so good. The visuals are simple and clean, and the soundtrack is so, so nice.

a nice recommendation i have is this game called orbo's exodus, its an indie game ,created by feverdream softworks, that recently released a demo, its an action platformer with its biggest emphasis being on how expansive the main character's list of mobility is. orbo's exodus is also a sequel to a previous game that feverdream made called orbo's odyssey. theyre really fun games and i think you'd maybe enjoy playing them.

Here's some other games that may be of interest to you, based on your love for pixel art styles and preference for high action. 2020, 2022 and 2023 had the release of No Straight Roads, Soulstice and Clash: Artifacts of Chaos respectively (plus, 2023 had Hi-fi Rush and Cookie Cutter). Those first three are very dear to me personally. For upcoming high (character) action games, be sure to set your eyes on the likes of Genokids, Jamphibian, Enenra Daemon Core, Mightreya, Captain Blood and Yasuke: A Lost Descendant. Perhaps the game Bad Boro and Lost in Random: The Eternal Die too. And in terms of pixel art, there's the RPGs My Familiar (i've especially got my eye on this one), Octopus City Blues, and i think Pillory as well. I'm just reminded of Clown Meat. Difficult 2D platformer with clown horror elements, but the clowns as such aren't necessarily evil. Hope these are likewise of interest to you!

i recently played the demo for morhta and its looking to be something pretty interesting. its a dark fantasy shooter with some killer low polly art and an extremely interesting world also Psychopomp is excellent too. its about an hour and a half long, and basically boils down to walk around weird places and being a schizophrenic woman. which makes it a 10/10 in my book but if you make anything weird enough and grungy enough ill probably like it no matter what

Yo dude, on the front of 2D action-heavy games & metroidvanias, i think i can supply a number of cool ones too! Cookie Cutter, Magenta Horizon, Kraino Rebirth, Decline's Drops and Immortal: And the Death that Follows. - Cookie Cutter: Hand-drawn 2D metroidvania with A LOT more planned for the future. Combat like a 2D beat-em-up. Normal attacks fill up a Special bar called the Void meter, which fuels Weapons, "spells" and a self-heal. Feels quite smooth and Executions reward extra health and Void. Two of the weapons you can find in the game are wholly optional, connected to sidequests. It's one of the most special games for me in recent years and i'm very excited for the future plans. It's a real love child of the dev-- dude's got a history in punk rock and Italian rave scenes and has stated in interviews that he really wants Cookie Cutter to be its own thing. Those who don't like it, don't like it, but those who resonate with it, resonate VERy strongly. He went through more than 100 interviews with possible publishers before he found one that was fully alright with not interfering or trying to force its own influence. And believe you me, that's hard to do with a game where the protagonist is a kinda chubby young lady dressed as a waitress, with a red Chelsea cut, and a robot vagina for a friend, in a cartoonish/comic-like colorful sci-fi/cyberpunk world. In the dev's own words, "I will continue to put my stories out there until i'm not better, not worse, but different". (something like that). - Magenta Horizon: 2D character action type game set in a purgatory world. Very colorful and a LOT of options right from the get-go. The entire Act 1 of 3 is the demo. Very striking art style! All of these games do, but they're all different from one another and i do want to emphasize it with Magenta Horizon, because on a technical level it probably has the most going on from all these. Alongside Immortal: And the Death that Follows. - Kraino Rebirth. Metroidvania. Was on Kickstarter and recently reached its funding for at least normal development, though additional funding goals weren't met. Pixelly art style by a dude that i believe worked on some of the Shantae games (Risky's Revenge and Pirate's Curse). About a skeleton in a top hat and with a scythe fighting various spooky threats. There is a demo out! - Decline's Drops: Angry gardener puppet fights off an evil science empire that ruined her garden, led by various draconic creatures that have mutated frogs and chickens making up their forces. Quite combat-focused too, the lead dev said that inspirations range from Yoshi's Island to Smash Bros. Various directional attacks: Normal, Tap/Smash and Specials. The lead dev of this one has a lot more planned for the future as well, like Boss Rush, time attack, new levels and bosses and even playable characters. Released a few weeks ago, does have a demo with levels from World 1, World 3 and the first BOss. - Immortal: and the Death that Follows. This one's unique for being a high-action roguelike beat-em-up platformer. It's 2D, with Hindu mythology inspirations, and gameplay-wise you can find and assign different moves per run. And apparently you can also change difficulty *through* a run depending on how you choose to finish a boss-- or if you spare the boss but demand it to do something beneficial for you. (The dev has cited God Hand for inspiration here) Which ones of these have your attention the most so far?

Yup! Both The Lost Crown and The Rogue Prince of Persia had stronger combat focus. Lost Crown involved some of the traversal/puzzle moves within the combat as well, like leaving behind a shade of yourself that you can teleport back to. Cookie Cutter's a cool one where it concerns combat-focused metroidvanias. Be warned though, it can be quite out-there.

Producing sounds I didn't know were possible) Some manga i love: Blue Giant (A love letter to jazz and the passion that musicians have for it) Red (One of the most original manga I've read in a while, set in a wild west setting) Yomawari Sensei (A teacher spends his nights tryna save the youth at their lowest, shit got me crying) Insomniacs After School (Cute story abt insomniacs spending time together) Ashita No Joe (The undisputed goat of sports manga) Biaoren (An incredible vagabond story set in a semi-mythical china) D. Gray Man (Some of the craziest powers and characters I've seen in a manga. If you love soul eater this is right up your alley) Ajin (One of the best manga villains ever, just a straight apathetic FREAK and an amazing story of how the supernatural can be treated in a regular society) Fool Night (A post-apocalypse world with no sunlight in which people can choose to kill themselves by transforming into flowers) Dorohedoro (One of the most psychedelic manga I've ever experienced) Golden Kamuy (The most incredible cast of characters ever, just straight funny asf)

For my own artist recommendation, I would recommend the band "Cheem". They are a very underground band that are pushing a new genre they like to call "Nu Pop". It's kinda like if you mixed Pop Punk with Nu Metal. They only have a little over 8,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. If you want a starting point, their album ""Guilty Pleasure" is a great listen. Highly recommend checking them out.

Anime wise i would reccommend Sonny Boy. 12 eps and some of the most creative visuals i have seen in anime. Manga wise Nick & Lever is a really goofy Comedy Manga about 2 buff americans living in japan. I HIGHLY recommend checking out rain world if you like the world of V.A proxy. I haven't played V.A proxy but I've played a lot of rain world. One thing I've heard about Proxy is that the world is heavily inspired by rain world, and one look at the gameplay confirms it with these weird bio-mechanical structures and striking colours mixed with dirty greys. Rain world is my favorite game of all time, BUT, it is very hard, unfairly hard sometimes

nice video dude, been a tsubi club fan for a minute (since burbank house dropped i think) glad to see you like their stuff! if you haven't already checked it out, there's this pretty cool and pretty short manga called "land of the lustrous" that i would recommend, it got a 3d animated anime a while back, and it's one of the few 3d animated ones i like, musics awesome too. you can also just check out the manga for the full complete story, as it just finished up.
