I love this! I gotta ask: what is or are the name/s for Ohlone Country? I get that the region was a mix up of many tribes, but everyone calls their country something (or many things) in their language/s.

Huchiun, in unceded Lisjan territory, now known as the East Bay (Oakland, Berkeley, Emeryville, Alameda, etc) See the Sogorea Te' Land Trust for more info on the local land, and to support their efforts.

Powerful woman and video. Wikipedia "California Genocide." The last I checked, the state of California has not given back any Indigenous lands at the state level yet.

The Spanish invaded, slaughtered them, took their land, forced them onto the "mission system,," forced them to convert to their religion, and made slaves out of them. What is it about that do you fail to comprehend?

They just happen to want San Francisco Bay land, some of the most expensive real estate in the country. Native Americans were warring over territory for thousands of years before white man took it Maybe it should be given to the tribe that this tribe took it from, or the one before that.

....Ohlone have histories that have been passed down to this generation of their use of their land (of their country) for about 6 000 years, though other stories assert many more thousands of years You seriously do not understand how Indigenous countries on this continent (Turtle Island) functioned and still function. There was not widespread warring, there was no land theft to even minor degrees. Countries were extremely stable and lasted for thousands of years with some changes here and there, but Ohlone Country-as with many of the countries stuck within the borders of California-has belonged to Ohlone for at least 5 millennia

@@danachos 6000 years? I thought that it was more like 3500 years, i.e., since around 1500 BC, when Costanoan speakers entered the Bay Area. Anthropological and linguistic evidence shows that people related to the Esselen lived in the East Bay back before then, but certainly, I'm sure that many people who identify as Ohlone could be descended from them as well. This doesn't detract from your valid points though. The evidence also shows that this cultural transition was peaceful, so there's another fact. Not to mention that the Esselen and various Ohlone tribes frequently interacted and intermarried with each other, with much friendly cultural exchange as well.
