Happy Native American Heritage Month!
For the occasion I wanted to upload a compilation from Indigenous Tiktokers as their voices have been silenced countless times.
Suggest me what other compilation I should do next and you'll get a chance to win a shoutout in one of my videos
Please note that I do not own any of the videos in this compilation. All credits go to the original creators.

as a black perosn it makes me really sad that i have not been taught about indigenous history well in school, the same way my school didnt teach much about slavery, so i started doing my own research and it is truly so heartbreaking. i really would love for us black brothers and sisters and wonderful indigenous people to stand together and support one another. our communities have been through so much for YEARS, i dont want us to ever be against each other , but to support one another.

Um what area did you live in the USA? I'm asking cause I think that matters how much your local school district goes into that stuff. I'm around Pittsburgh PA so we definitely have alot of native American history surrounding us at all times. where I grew up we went heavily into native American history cause for one we had a very well known and detailed local history of the local tribes cause we had a famous battlefield that was the British vs native Americans which despite being a small battlefield was a badass battle. Which is recreated and etc every year with locals among other things. We had to build wigwams and etc from a young age plus of course the field trip at around 8yrsold literally down the road where we handled legit stuff from that time period which wasn't even 3 minutes from my own house. Also idk if this matters but we had way more native Americans then African American kids so I wonder too if that's another reason why I'm not sure. But yeah despite being a super rich white with alot of Italians we had a really high native American population. It started as a poor coal mining/rural farm area hence why all the Italians and etc but last idk 40 years or so had turned it into the richest best school district around. So we definitely had way more resources and better teachers which could be another reason why we learned so much about the local tribes. I'm sorry this is dragging out but i should add in that my son is at the rival school district which neighbors it so super close and I noticed he hasn't done at all barely what I've learned which ironically he's started learning recently so they could go more into but if I compare by his age I learned way more than him. But so far he's learned about the same amount of black history as I did.

@@grrrohmy665 yeah I'm just saying I think location is a big part of our education and what we learn. Kinda makes more sense that if you're surrounded by native American history in the north east to focus on it more than idk the alamo for example. I'm not saying ignore the Alamo but kinda ridiculous if you don't know your local history best but the Alamo more. I think they do that in cities from what I understand as well since it's more African Americans there they focus more on black history than some other aspects from what friends told me. Idk it's kinda hard to shit on education in this area when you realize how much history happened just around you and then you gotta learn the rest of your country and then around the world it's really daunting when you think about it. So Stuff is gonna fall through which is why it's great when kids get in highschool and college they can choose classes that super focus on say black history or Asia. Also you can always educate yourself just like I did with Tudor history and the war of roses later in life. Just because your school didn't have enough time or resources doesn't mean you can't look and educate yourself! People put it as it's all the schools fault but really it's their own for not just doing it themselves. There is the internet with all it's resources, libraries and bookstores, museums including those little local ones everyone ignores, and etc. This makes you a more well rounded person who isn't boring to talk to. I meet so many people that all they talk about is their labels, themselves repeatedly or whatever boring stupid thing on their phones or barely able to hold a conversation at all let alone one of substance. Well this is how you don't do that along with other hobbies whether it's hiking or art.

‼️I agree! I also have a question for native americans. And I know every tribe is different so if you are from one of the tribes where the women grow their hair very long can you explain why that is done. Is it like a tradition to not cut your hair once you reach womanhood or once you're married. Or is it just for aesthetic reasons? I know the answer will probably be different based on what tribe you are but if anyone has any knowledge about that if you could please answer I would greatly appreciate it. They have such beautiful hair! Also if any native women want to drop their hair care routine I would like that very much as well ❤️

A few years ago I had the privilege of attending a Pow Wow consisting of the Hoocągra or Winnebago (Ho-chunk). I received a special invitation since I invited the owner, who was of that tribe, to my party/gathering. It was the best experience I've ever had. Everyone looked amazing, I was able to purchase items sold from their actual venues and give back to their community, watch several glorious dances, and taste the best food ever. It felt like attending a family barbecue. As a Black person, it was enriching to experience a culture outside of my own without having to travel far. We should appreciate the people who made the USA, my home country, what it really is today. I will keep supporting my Native/Indigenous people as an advocate and hopefully a good ally.

I totally understand that, and I am NOT hating on anyone or taking sides with anyone, but they don't really control getting views & followers. their videos may be very boring and not have a lot of effort, but they're doing everything they can to keep it the way it is, dances take work, and the videos where they get LOTS of views for doing nothing is just they have a big platform, and people can just come across the video a lot. Their videos may have not a lot of effort, but you have to think, it's tiring having a huge platform, and maybe they are even running out of ideas. Once again, NO hate at all to anyone and I'm not taking sides with anyone, I'm just saying.

@@jamesdoakes4956 Actually only 4 known tribes owned slaves. Those tribes no longer exist, because they’ve been wiped out during/after the civil war. But you’re correct. Just don’t generalize the whole of the Native American community, because the families that owned slaves are either dead, or of a European , native mix. So most blood is gone.

@Jai Pennycuick Your ignorance is showing, sir, do you mind taking care of it? To indigenous people their clothing and their regalia is sacred, it is more than just pieces of fabric. White people wearing those clothes without acknowledging the culture and not being affiliated with it in any way is cultural appropriation. Unlike the clothing of indigenous people, "white people clothing" does not have as much cultural significance, therefore anyone can wear said "white people clothing" without it being considered cultural appropriation. In conclusion, to Indigenous people their clothing is more than mere pieces of fabric and white people wearing them while disregarding their cultural significance is cultural appropriation

I'm saying that because someone taught you wrong about the Indigenous people". She later walked off with embarrassment, but I walked off with confidence of being a Dinè. The part of braided hair was her daily routine. It made me teary eyed

Yes! I agree with the white-washing thing. I'm 25% Kispiox (Canada). My mom is half, and her mom is 100%. I literally have all the same bone structure, hair, etc. as my mom & grandma, but I get called white all the time by people, including family 🙄 It's like... Do you not have eyes? Or a brain?

How can you understand the reasoning behind the ahnialation of your nations and culture for white enrichment - especially when they inflicted incalculable suffering and dehumanization on your people and left you with nothing. You fought bravely for 400 years to protect your land and families. They even robbed you of your language. They cut your braids off to make you look and act like them, yet to this day call you savages and exploit your sacred symbols for profit. You weren't "breeded out' ! Be sad but stand up to preserve the truth. American history begins with you-not the European immigrants. For your grandmother's sake don't let the world forget it.

It is amazing how strong the people are that so much culture has managed to survive. I hope that one day soon the world starts treating everybody as equals. That'd be the day when human kind can prosper and truly live up to its potential. Love the beautiful clothing, that has also grown and transformed over the years into these pieces of wearable art. As an amateur clothing historian, I am now triggered to dive into the history of these cultures. As a Dutch person we did learn a little about the biggest most famous tribes, but skirted over the important things. We did learn how we f-ed everything up back then over there. But still, very basic knowledge. It's almost November now. I hope that the awareness month helps.

I know Mexican and (weirdly) Korean culture better than my own. I only know a handful of words in Navajo, one of them being my middle name so I don't think it counts and my family is huge but we've never really been very traditional, it was kinda lost on my siblings and I. I live on the reservation now with my mom and stepdad and im slowly trying to learn the 23 years of information that I failed to learn growing up

I am a indigenous woman from the Cheyenne/Arapahoe tribe as well as the Chickasaw tribe. I am lighter skinned then most natives and have been bad mouthed for it. But it was hard growing up for my greatgran was the last woman in our family to fallow our roots. So many native family I meet who no longer fallow traditional for the fact they fear it will make life hard for their children in the future. I remember my great gran telling me before she passed that me being lighter skinned will help since I will bend in but I wanted my roots. The fear of what this country will do the the Natives still haunts them everyday. Since I never grew up knowing my traditions I wish all natives who do to stay strong and never give up for anyone when it comes to your beliefs.

Yes. Thank you for this. I'm also lighter skinned indigenous (Kispiox/Gitsxan) and always felt kinda alienated or "different" from my mom, brother, and grandmother who are darker than me & have more profound indigenous features. I still have the same features, but I'm just a bit lighter. My white grandma on my dad's side still insists that my brother and I are just white, and my brother seems to believe her because he literally puts "white/Caucasian" on most government stuff, or job applications etc. It's sickening.
