In my humble opinion, this is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.

+Alan Holder - Yes ... possibly the deepest song I've ever heard... I think it tops "dust in the wind" (Kansas) ...maybe even tops "the long and winding road" ...its so sad I feel like crying whenever I hear it. Actually... I only listen to this like once every couple of years... it truly stirs the soul.

The Indigo Girls define a period in my life that I remember with fondness. Just hearing these great "old" songs conjures up the fact that good music truly is timeless. I will love these songs forever.

My next tattoo (I'm 67 now) will be "...until Time makes history of us..." in memory of the one who captured my heart more than 40 years ago and first introduced me to these talented and soulful ladies. That line says it all. Awesome album altogether. This song is love and loss and smiles and tears all rolled into one. A rarity. 💕

RE; "History Of Us" I'm a songwriter, acoustic guitar player and I'm from Colorado where these gals were quite popular for the longest time. I qualify the following declaration by saying that I've lived in 14 states and five countries and I listen to all genre's of music and I can say, with well-rounded opinion, that; "This is quite possibly the most beautifully and well written song ever penned".

I was 22 when this song was released. And I am 51 now. Still one of the most beautiful, beguiling songs, ever. Amazing. I saw them in 1993 on their $10/Tour...and it was an amazing show. The Birchmere in Alexandria, VA. Great memory.

Mono no Aware.....all things are impermanent, and the sadness this knowledge brings to the deep and oh so tragically human thinker, can be overwhelming. what a beautiful offering from these two beautiful songwriters. Nearly 40 years now....I hate you both so very much for making me feel the raw pain of life. and I love you for it, every time.

In our highest hopes, our dreams turn out better, with the mother and the father of the universe stewarding a wondrous hope for all those who give so much in caring about us all. On many a mountaintop, in many a cathedral, in the hearts and minds with the young and the ignorant in their concerns, something new and beautiful about us like this song lives.

Robert Valdeman... How far will I have to go to forget your face? Your soulful haunting brown eyes. We found stolen moments to forget the world, the past, the present, the future in each other arms . I tried to make it light you invoked the other "L" word and then acted like it was a kindness...instead of a heartbreak. Time is truly the best test of Love, of Loyalty, of Tenacity, of Endurance, of Never ever giving up. I am still here, arms open wide....as you leave me behind in your dust...

I've just been reading about women's ordination, and the right of women to pray with the same freedom men enjoy at the Western Wall in Jerusalem--and these are just two of the many challenges women face when expressing their unique spirituality. In this song, Emily talks about hearing the Living God, and then, from a hotel room in Switzerland, recognizing that it's time for her to return to her flock. I'm one of her flock. She has a calling, and a power, to uplift and to pray through her music, in such an inclusive fashion (both Emily and Amy), that it is never aggressive or antagonistic, even in critiquing the status quo. They are full of love, and they have healed so many, spoken for the broken and inspired hearts, and returned us to solid ground from the depths of despair, because it becomes so very clear that we are not alone in our pain, and that there is so much more going on around us than our personal crises. There's no way for me to express how grateful I am to them, and what a difference they've made in my life...how much hope they've given me when I'm utterly hopeless--and I know I'm not alone. For me, she is a spiritual leader and healer, as well as a sublimely insightful, intuitive, and accomplished craftswoman/songsmith. They are so prolific because they are so active, and open to inspiration--which means they keep their hearts wide open. Which hurts, and takes courage. Thank God for us, they are truly courageous and honest, and I'm so glad I was introduced to their music. It changed the course of my life. With every ounce of my heart and soul and love, Namaste, Pam
