Gravel and glass on the bottom of my feet, I bruised my heels on the swollen street… My God, that lyric so evocative… who among us doesn’t remember being that young and full of joy and impetuous and stupid and vibrant and ALIVE all at the same time? Amazing….

So... most fans of these "girls" are familiar with Closer To Fine... this is easily my favorite song... they are from Athens GA. I'm about to be 54 and also from GA. I currently live in Florida and this song still speaks volumes to me years after it was recorded, released and being played on a wonderful radio station in Atlanta known as 96ROCK. 🙂

I don't want to start an argument, but I remember when they released this album and how country music was the only format who would embrace them. It's only taken 20 years for the rest of america to catch up with the Indigo Girls.
@ezraharrigan-px2kw7 ай бұрын
So no argument but I’m remembering that the alternative music scene did play them / this album. I was a teen in Minnesota listening to alt music and they crossed my radar and me and my friends w same taste also liked them. But yeah, tastes and genres were narrower back then. Nothing like now w Beyoncé singing true country right?!

I have certainly been in these shoes before. He's telling me what I think I want him to say. He's close enough to be dangerous, but not beyond the doubt in my mind. Petting me on the head when I worry about my heart, being my everything I didn't ask for but appreciate. Always just beyond the spotlight, leaving me in limbo unavailable, yet still unclaimed. A plaything, a costume for dress up, a secret garden to visit, a running gag a long, painful punchline. Always left holding possibility, being scoffed at, standing in my underwear in front of everybody, caught off guard and wounded. The crowd howling at the joke, the absurdity of it all, and giving scolding looks when I seek sympathy or bandages and tea. I was a boy on the town, trying to drink deeply from the well of life, I crashed and burned, with a broken heart over and over. You'd think I'd learn, but I'll believe the lie, you don't have to ask, I already do. I choose to believe love is a secret to be revealed to me one day or a discovery waiting for my shovel and map. Don't be too sad or lonely, baby, I'm on my way...I've been on my way my entire life...
