When I was 12 my bestfriend Bree lost her mom and the next morning I was in her living room with her and she put's this cassette in and Jewel comes on. It was this song specifically and she tells me this song reminds of her mom and we listened to it over and over again while I helped her clean her house for her dad. Four years later Bree died in a car accident and I played this for her,for me, endlessly. She was the first person to teach me that music can soothe the soul and bring some much needed peace and a little reprieve from heartache.

I met my husband in 1992. I was 14. We broke up for 2 years due to distance. His parents moved to Fl, I lived in MI. (Back then it was 10cents a minute for the phone, or snail mail) while we were apart i would cry to this song. It was i was meant for "Stevie".... 23 years of marriage, and we love each other as much as we did when I 1st heard this song.... We live together, work together, and play together. Theres no place in this world id rather be. And I still love this song, and still think of him when i hear it... I consider myself blessed. I have my soul mate. There isn't any material things I'd trade my life for. We may not have all money can buy- but we truly have it all.

This is the 1st time since 1999 that I have been able to listen to this haunting song. It was my mother's favourite song and it was playing on repeat on tape, when she committed suicide in 1999 This song still haunts me. Sorry for the info but I finally have closure to press play and embrace the pain and try to see to the beauty maybe she may have heard so she didn't die alone , thank you jewel for being there for her, even just your voice. you said the words that she could not. Peace, love and light to everyone who took the time to read this. Remember that you are not alone in this world, please ask for help if you are having a hard time, call a friend, hotline, anyone. Don't be afraid to ask for help, like my mom, life is better with you in it, even when yourself feels like you don't. You matter to someone, you have a purpose even if it's a message of hope. ✌️ ❤️ 🌞

I'm sorry about your mom and I know life can change in an instant. I've had tribulations myself. Life can bring you down like an anchor, all you can do is try and jump over that hoop, pick yourself up and keep moving forward. My father passed away and I basically saw him die three times. I still miss him. His kidneys went out so he died in the hospital, I did get to say goodbye, even though he was in a coma. Then went to where everyone says goodbye,,a memorial service had to wait for the ground to thaw out and that was the funeral. I am a writer of poetry and lyrics. I love music, all kinds. There's been many times I was in misery,in sorrow. But now things are looking up

Back in May of 2000 my wife and little boy were both killed by a drunk driver. After the police notified me and had left I pulled myself together and headed upstairs to let my 10 year old daughter know what had happened. When I walked into her bedroom she saw my tear streaked face and, in her words, “I could tell you were dying inside, it was all over your face.” As I sat there trying to comfort her this song was playing on her radio. I didn’t know who Jewel was and, being a Classic Rock guy, I doubt that I had ever heard any of her music until that moment. Ive heard this song many times over the years since and it always takes me back to that night. The song is beautiful but I definitely have a love/hate relationship with it. I miss my wife and my little man as much now as I ever have and this song can still make me tear up. Sorry for the long, rambling post but I heard this again on my way to work this morning and I decided to Google the video and check the comments to see if anyone else had a story like mine. Reading them inspired me to tell my own. I’m off now to teach my 6 year old grandson the right way to bait a hook and, hopefully, how to clean a trout. Wish us luck!

I just imagined that this is how I would feel and how I would cope if I lost him and it made me value what we have. Later that night I told him about how melancholic I felt after the argument and listening to Jewel’s song and he told me he was sad all day too. I guess what she does with this song is reflect on the human experience of carrying on your day to day life with a broken heart, and a small hope that your “one” will realize you belong together.

The 90’s-early 2000’s were such a special and unique time to grow up. It was exciting, especially witnessing technology expand and get better and better. Everything was sooooo cool to us. Now children have iPhones and I pads and constantly just want the new one. I can’t imagine being born any other time. Life feels quite predictable rn. During the 90’s so many things were changing and giving us hope and excitement. People are almost just numb to things now. Nothing is really changing.

One of the best songs i ever learned on the guitar! Word of caution tho: play it responsibly! I learned it almost 20 years ago and for the first few years i used the song to sleep with a bunch of women, many of whom were "out of my league" until becoming star-struck by the familiar melody. Its almost too easy! But it weighs on the soul as it does such a disservice to the song and the artist, you become part of the reason behind the emotional expression in the songs and a sense of guilt follows with. So i stopped exploiting the songs supernatural powers altogether for that purpose! Every now and then ill still pull it out and leave em star-struck, but i make sure they keep their clothes on out of respect for the artist! But god damn does it work like you wouldnt believe!

Lyrics: I hear the clock, it's 6 AM I feel so far from where I've been I got my eggs, I got my pancakes too I got my maple syrup, everything but you I break the yolks and make a smiley face I kinda like it in my brand new place Wipe the spots off of the mirror Don't leave the keys in the door I never put wet towels on the floor anymore 'cause Dreams last so long Even after you're gone I know that you love me And soon you will see You were meant for me And I was meant for you I called my mama, she was out for a walk Consoled a cup of coffee but it didn't wanna talk So I picked up a paper, it was more bad news More hearts being broken or people being used Put on my coat in the pouring rain I saw a movie it just wasn't the same 'Cause it was happy or I was sad And it made me miss you oh so bad 'cause Dreams last so long Even after you're gone I know that you love me And soon you will see You were meant for me And I was meant for you I go about my business, I'm doing fine Besides, what would I say if I had you on the line? Same old story, not much to say Hearts are broken every day I brush my teeth, I put the cap back on I know you hate it when I leave the light on I pick up a book up and then I turn the sheets down And then I take a deep breath, a good look around Put on my pj's and hop into bed I'm half alive but I feel mostly dead I try and tell myself it'll all be alright I just shouldn't think anymore tonight 'cause Dreams last so long Even after you're gone And I know that you love me And soon you will see You were meant for me And I was meant for you Yeah, you were meant for me And I was meant for you

This is the perfect comment to reply too. Here's why. This song IS timeless. It appeals to just about everyone. It has a contemplative melody. Its got relatable lyrics. But additionally, it has one of the best voices to every have graced a microphone. This song IS timeless for all the reasons I've stated and much more. We should take, if only a moment to digest that truth. But here's the catch. This video is horseshit. This takes (what continues to be) a song for the ages, and instead, inserts freshman arts school dropout garbage into our collective minds. It takes everything relatable about the lyrics and detaches the viewer by introducing artificially lit stages, over the top, forced set pieces. It absolutely butcher's the personal relationship every individual has with the universals life experiences expressed in the lyrics. It stylistly removes you from the tone of the melody. Having a generic woman or man, (age, race, income, doesn't matter) going through the motions of their day (drinking coffee, riding the bus, stuck in traffic, at the break room in the office and coming home at night) would serve the virtue of this gem so much better. Instead we get 2 chair set pieces, overly done up Jewel getting a weird massage? Some shirtless dude with a permed deer trail hovering around? As a fellow Alaskan I feel abliged to ask, who was this videos director related too? How did this happen? How much did someone's out of work brother-in-law get paid to ruin our collective relationship with this timeless song? Would natural lighting and relatable environments kill you? Thank you for reading this comment internet people. I wish you all a wonderful new year filled with health and happiness. Also, I am currently whiskey drunk. Thank you.
