I have two amazing moms who love this song. Ever since I was little I have heard them singing it, now I am almost 18. They have always said that it is “their song.” I never thought anything of it until I REALLY listened to it. The imagery is so beautiful. Now, I am crying thinking of how much my moms love each other and how much I want to experience love like they have.

This is one of the most beautifully written songs..... so far ahead in years. My Mom-in-Law’s wife passed several years ago, this song reminds me of them. I miss her. But, I think this song transcends sexuality.... I think of my hubby and get all warm & fuzzy. It puts a smile on my face even though it’s a little sad.

Lily - I’m of your moms generation. My children also had two moms (I was one of them) before the Indigo Girls came along, so when they showed up on the scene. Their music was so powerful! Their song, “Free in You” was played at my wedding to my current wife. That was, of course, before it was legal for us to get married, but we still had a ceremony at our church and a big party afterwards. Indigo Girls were sung in the wedding and played for our first dance. I’m so glad you had two moms and it was a positive experience for you. I think my kids all felt it was positive for them, too, although not always easy. They range from 25-33 now. 😊

This song transports me back to the summer of 1997 in San Diego, California. I was travelling around the world and met a beautiful blonde curly haired girl there on a bus travelling to the beach. We started dating & this was her favourite song. She didn't know it at the time (because I was stupid enough not to tell her, being a man) but she was/still is the love of my life. I moved back home to the other side of the world because my visa had ran out and we lost contact. I waited for her for years, hoping that she would contact me one day or even be waiting outside my house when I returned each night from work, sadly that didn't happen. I would think about her every day then one day after many years I found her on Facebook & she had since married. So every couple of years I play this song to remind me of those happy memories. So the moral of this story is, don't hold back. If you need to say to someone I love you, say it and don't have a lifetime of regrets.

They say that when you meet the true love of your life, that you will remember the very first kiss, the pause before the kiss, every single moment. I am on my second marriage, and sadly i dont remember either one of them. But i do remember a woman that i spent one night with, i remember her name, the pause, the length i put in to the date to get her to come back to my place, the way she smelled, the food we ate, all the way down to the minute detail. Her name was Katherine, she went by Katie, she was from Missouri, she was 6' tall, her favorite band was indigo girls, song was Power of 2, followed by Galileo, she worked for Thompson Books, she wore strawberry champagne from Victoria's Secret, she preferred winter over summer because she liked wearing sweaters, and boots, she ordered Chicken Marsala, light onions, and extra mushrooms, her favorite wine was Merlot, but she as okay with Pinot Grigio but she liked it cold. Why in all the universe do I remember every bit of this. I spent one night with this woman, and for some reason i took in every single thing she said, we didnt exchange numbers, because we wanted the moment to be perfect, so when we looked back later in life, it would be the one perfect thing that never got spoiled.

@@josephstephens3497 I too can remember every tiny detail about meeting her. When I close my eyes it transports me back 24 years. From meeting her on a bus in downtown San Diego to the conversation we had. To meeting up that very night, her clothes, corkscrew curly blonde hair blowing in the wind and her beautiful smile. The park where she took me and the very spot where we had our very first kiss. I just wish I could turn back time and start again from that very first moment on that bus......

This was our song when my wife and I got married back in 1994. We both have tattoos of parts of the song on our forearms. My wife's is "Stronger Than the Monster" and mine is "Chase All the Ghosts" in our own handwriting along with our anniversary date in Roman numerals along with a self-designed sign to signify the "Multiply Life by the Power of 2".

My partner introduced me to the Indigo Girls 20 years ago and this was one of our favorites. My partner died almost 2 years ago after a long time battle with lymphoma and we found some comfort in this song as we hoped for a cure. Now, it brings tears to my eyes but I still love it. Our daughter has discovered a talent for singing and even a little song writing (at the ripe old age of 11) and I am looking forward to sharing Amy's and Emily's music with her as a way of remembering her Mama.

No matter what sexuality, race, religion... regardless of anything else, it is impossible to deny the talent of the Indigo Girls. They are probably the most poetic lyricists in modern music. I’m not sure why I came across this today. But I think, for a good reason. I was writing a friend, saying ‘the power of two is over, and now it is just me’. I thought after, hey, I think there’s a song called that, Power Of Two, I remember that. So I’ve just been like crying a good 10 minutes after looking up and watching this beautiful video with song. I lost my spouse almost a year ago and, I’m still having a real rough time missing the partnership we’d built for decades. This was what I guess the universe needed me to see today. I have to, and must, accept, he is gone from life. And somehow, keep the power, that we built. I know, he’d want that. It is so, so hard; when you’ve had something so strong, to suddenly be without. ‘Cause chances are, it was likely a once-in-a-lifetime, thing. I am very, very glad - that I had a chance in my life to feel that power. Some do not ever find it, so I am grateful. I know, true love - is a gift. I miss it oh yeah I sure do, but, I must count myself very lucky to have had that gift. Loss is climbing a staircase to get past the hurt and then keep slipping down some steps. I need to reach the top. I have slipped again today, I pick up, and climb again. A beautiful song I needed to remind myself to get back on the stairs. 💜

The only woman I ever loved was Mara. 25 years ago I was in Boston…she was doing her senior year at NYU and I moved with her to Manhattan. At that time I was so busy listening to Pink Floyd led Zeppelin.. listen to the indigo girls and I never did when I was with her (even though she tried to turn me on to them. Now 20 years ago I listened to them by myself, and tear up missing Mara..😅

This is my favorite song of all times. My mother also sung this to me as a child and she played all of their songs non stop. They were a huge part of my childhood. Love the Indigo Girls!

I sang this for my sister's wedding in 2003. It was a square crowd, but they all loved the song. My sister and I used to sing this together, so it was my toast to her

This song is my best friend at Johnny White's sports bar in New Orleans right after he met his husband. I love those guys so much. I can't ever forget him saying, " if we leave a legacy..." My freaking best friend.
