It seems to me the game was about a young girl who was forced to join the church. She’s trying to make up for her trauma when the love of her life is killed so she joins the ministry and the voice in her head (the devil) is the underlying doubts about her choices (or lack of because she was likely forced). The ministry ostracizes her, so she runs off on this adventure of self-discovery to figure out where she belongs. she grapples with her own faith, religion, and identity throughout the whole game questioning if she is inherently evil while trying to carry out a good deed for a man she believes is good. She tries to figure out if the nunhood fits her. At the very end, she loses all faith in her religion realizing the truth she was chasing had been staring back at her all along. She was searching for god or some shred of hope. That's how I interpreted it lol
@TheFreshSoundsFlorida5 ай бұрын
The writers and devs of the game really took a shallow approach to the portrayal of faith and representation of the nuns. All of the nuns we see and hear on the screen are written mean spirited and rigid. There's no variety . Do/did those mean kind of people exist? Sure, but not everyone is like that. Religion in this game is portrayed as performing shallow rituals to give the appearance of being "righteous" & "holy" versus faith encouraging you to face the darkness, deal with trauma and lost.. it's so many things. The characters in the game have such an infantile understanding of faith and how it applies to their lives. It's all contradictory and wrong. But thats not the devs point though

What I liked best was the back-and-forth on religion, morality, ethics, etc. Humans have not been very good at balancing morality, what it means to be a truly good person, and religion is us trying to codify human behavior. What I liked best was how Indika described sin/evil at the end, something you can feel like being cold (while being sexually assaulted) and knowing when something is unquestionably wrong, yet society sees her as the bad actor by causing death solely through who she associates with.
@fitforfreelance5 ай бұрын
Finding items that give you negative points highlighted it for me. We just assume we should have as much as possible. The points were arbitrary in the first place, and ultimately served no transaction purpose in the game. Their only purpose was to let you assume you needed them. I think the game is showing there's no good or evil, it's just you. And the quest you choose doesn't really matter when you actually get it. Even if you got as much of it as you wanted.

I love the little details in this game that show the depth the developers went into, and the meanings we can see into it. A little perk I noticed was that Indika denied Mirko thrice, just like Apostle Peter did with Jesus the night he was aprehended. Another is that because of her "own selfish gain" she searched for the kudet and broke it in hopes of restoring her reflection (her own image, herself, also mirroring pandora's box and hope being the only thing inside) without caring for the sanctity of the artifact, and with it, the rosary breaks, demonstrating the rupture of her bond to her past self and the tie to the monastery/god. Even if the ending is open for interpretation, it's curious how she is looking at "the light at the end of the tunnel" ('death' of her old self, new beginings) at a "Pawn" shop (which can be interpreted both as "exchange"/change or in the synonym, her new status as a common piece on the field, no longer a "bishop"with a predestined path), surrounded by many objects and instruments for new possibile paths. On a last note, possibly the play of psychosis from trauma (after seeing Mirko's death, conflict of faith/beliefs, hostile enviroment and ab-se),the demon we see pushing the wardrobe onto the guard is probably just a dissasociative representation of herself, mirroring Makar's story. Thank you for playing this! It's definitely an interesting piece!

This game is full of symbols and allegories. It goes so deep into the true nature of religion, how it's just a futile attempt at rationalising a universe which has no rationality. No such thing as good or bad. Things just happen. I wish more games told stories and ideas like this.

As a Christian, this whole game gave me a deep reflection into mine own faith. This, for me, shows how hope can be such a dangerous thing if you put all of your faith into the wrong thing. Ilya and Indika were desperate for God's salvation and had hoped that by touching the Kulets, they'd be blessed and forgiven. When Ilya's arm wouldn't heal, he lost his faith and turned to booze. When Indika opened the Kulets and found it was empty, she lost her faith in God. Her life was set out for her from the start and she became a nun in the hopes of coming to terms with the loss of her lover. In the end, she couldn't find God so she lost faith. In the end, none of it mattered. And that is always where Atheism comes from. When nothing matters, when hope is betrayed, when God is silent, people turn away. It is so easy to succumb to booze and hopelessness in this world but in the end, what the devil said is true. Good and evil are meters on a thermometer. God and the Devil are you. We have both inside of us and for that, the world is not and cannot be divided between black and white. It's grey. For anyone who is losing faith, understand that it's ok to question your beliefs and have doubts. But do not succumb to hopelessness. Put your faith into something that matters. Put your belief and hope into something that you can cling to and always, always be strong in that faith. If it is true, you will not fall. If it is false, you will stumble. Your beliefs are important and where you put them even more so. So make sure that what you believe in is true. May God bless and keep you all ❤

We call it кудац translating to "Kudats" they are holy artifacts that's blessed from the the Vatican. I have never seen one but it is brought into the church during special ceremony. It is said to undo all wrongs. Hence, in this game Indika says "I am dead, If I dont see the kudets" because she thinks she strayed from the path of being a nun. Hence, by kissing the kudets the voice in her head would leave her and she could follow being the servent if god. But in the end founds out that the Kudets was hollow. @@ChaChaRealSmooth369 during the 80's most of the girls(under15) if they commit non-Haines crime have the option to choose the path of god's servent(Nun). Indika here performed adultery and choose to take the life of the nun. And the convent (which is clearly visible in the game) didn't not like Indika to be the part of the nun because they believe she has sinned. (Hence, the water tub being toppled over by the sister saying its impure because Indika touched it). Indika never listened to anyone, she just choose whatever came forth because she had no other option. Also, the voice inside her only starts to speak when she talks spiritually but whenever she has intimate conversation about her life or some other stuff you dont hear that voice. (Concluding) what the devil said in the end, "when you accept God you then also should then accept Devils. (Meaning) That voice was infact 'her' questining herself of her own belief. She was fighting her internal demons and looking for her faith. When she didn't acknowledge her lover and her dad killed him, it was the start of her downfall. Nuns are a symbol of hope, love, and faith. However, we see them dismissing her and treating her like nothing. This caused her to go on a journey of self-discovery and why she wants God's approval. In the end, she lost all faith b/c no matter how hard she prayed, nobody answered. She was abandoned first, so she then abandoned faith. I don't think there was ever a Demon but how she saw herself. A demon is unwanted, sinful, without faith. This was how she saw herself at the beginning and end of the game.

Damn that was incredible not only as a game and a dark look a humanism. It’s also a brilliant masterpiece of Russian dissident art within a greater context that crosses cultural boundaries. I don’t want to dwell too much on that fact because it’s glaring obvious if you’re well versed in Russian history and culture. Plus I’m not here to play culture wars If anything being here is a nice break from them. The setting is crazy late imperial Russian steampunk meets Stalker, the only good movie ever made in the Soviet Union. That in itself is cool as hell that there were hidden anti war / a critique of the system. Prominent being only things that work are related to caviar a Tsarist era equivalent for oil and thing relating to the church. How two broken people end up engaging with this system while desperately trying to keep hope alive only to end up beaten down and realizing in the end it doesn’t even matter.
