already been some leaked sheets showing some buffs for existing units, looking good so far. Waiting for new heavy destroyers, monolith, MAYBE Void Dragon here. I am speculating that immortals will be buffed to a multiwound unit since the warriors got improved quite a bit

From a competitive point of view, which is a lot of what this channel is about, I couldn't agree more. Wait for the Codex to drop and then you can better plan your expansion. From a perspective of someone that's more of a hobbyist or collector then I'd consider some of the newer models coming out ESP. if you like the aesthetic of the Indomitus box ... those should be up your alley.

I don't think we should think strictly in terms of competitiveness, Necrons (and rest of Xenos) don't come with keyword anyway. Waiting for Codex is also kind of pointless, since we're already halfway through 2020 and CA 21 may address some initial flaws.

Don't bother playing any games if you think like that because you'll just do poorly anyways because you already have the belief of you gonna lose due to a keyword. So for you maybe which sounds strictly as a hobbyist. Thinking like that is anti-competitive. Pretty much it's a excellent idea to wait for the codex if you are interested in building a list because that has the vital information. Right now we know very little.

I think there is going to be some pretty systemic changes to the army. That is probably the most prudent course. I had some Tomb Blades I was about to make, but I have them on hold as I don't want to magnetize. I can wait until october to finalize them.

I 100% agree here. Outside a theme with dynasty and unit we have all the rules for I won't be touching anything until the codex.. becides models I just wanna hobby with. As someone said I believe crons will have a overhaul and buying stuff based off the old codex is a bad move right now. Plus for me, I love the new models and alway hated the Cron vehicles, like I don't wanna paint and build an ark and I won't lol. So could be biased but I'm certainly waiting. Oh except 3 more Skorpekh destroyers, love cc and love the models !

I had 20 old warriors and indomitus and so built the indomitus ones with reapers and used the 20 spare gauss flayers on the old kit and added some battle damage. its hard to tell the difference

Triarch Stalker earns my solid recommendation. The leaked stat line has improved, can fire its heat ray in combat, no longer suffers -1 to hit when moving and gives the whole army reroll 1s on whatever it shoots at that turn. A great unit to support your force whilst also having the wounds and shields to take and hold an objective

Found a Necron battleforce box at a going out of business sale print on box says 2011, comes with 20 warriors, 5 immortals, 5 scarabs, 1 Ghost Ark/Doomsday barge for $68 usd. Also have a Indomitus box on order. Think with the two I’ll have a good Necron force for practice games and teaching/ introducing friends and others interested in hobby and gaming.

I'm just excited for the mephrit +3" Is gonna make blobs more deadly, with the smaller board (I think) Honestly I'm excited to see what wargear is going to be for our characters. I think Sautek with 18" rapid fire range is going to be interesting. Flayers rapid at 18" and Reapers rapid a 14" could be a wakeup call for someone sleeping on the warriors.

As an aside, I think (personally) just running an extra patrol for all the characters is going to help. It feels like the necron army is built on being "okay" and then buffing with characters to up the damage. It seems that a patrol with overlord and cryptec & Patrol with lord and warden will be the way I will be running MOST of my lists. Just so many rerolls and potential. Am excited to see if the new skorpek lord will be as good as I think he is, aka good enough to take a slot away from the " core characters "

As a Necron player I usually have a HUGE bone to pick when others make purchase recommendations. Given your qualifiers though [no big $ expenditures, wait for codex, etc.] I think your choices are solid. Doomsday Arks / Ghost Arks [magnetize the model] are solid options as they fill two holes in the Indomitus box as you mentioned. I'm not super wild about the old Start-Collecting-Necrons box as the aesthetics clash and there is a lot of overlap with what Indomitus has --- only new things are 5 Immortals and a magnetizable vehicle.

YOU'VE READ MY MIND! just yesterday I got my second indomitus box, and I reeaaally regret selling the necron part from the first one...the sculpts are sooo glorious, for the second I selling a couple of SM HQs but Im keeping the necrons, which I had never really been a fan of before but damn this minis are good and the indomitus is sucha great discount Im keeping em. The Cryptek also applies its support aura for reanimation protocols to the Plasmancer due to the wording of the aura, having them together in the force can be really powerful.

I just hope reanimation protocols get seriously buffed otherwise necrons are still going to feel bad. reanimation protocols should absolutely define the army and not be easily circumvented by just focusing down one unit at a time.

Agreed. Ideally it should happen per model being destroyed, like a final save roll. I'm honestly expecting something like that. Knowing GW though they'll just keep it the same but it succeeds on a 4+ instead of 5+ and they'll think we should be happy about it. 🙄

If you didn't have Indomitus, and don't mind the older look & feel, the Necrons start collection box was a good starting point. DDAs can be magnetized to also serve as Ghost Arks so great move there. As an add-on to Indomitus I think DDAs would be my next pick if I bought pre-codex.

The good thing about the plasmancer is he has cryptek rules so he effects re animation protocols plus he has harbinger of destruction which is basically smite.

Personally I have some regret in expanding my Destroyer forces [standard, heavy, and Lord] in light of the new models coming out. I'm hoping that GW's official stance will be that the old & new models represent the same UNIT choice. Then all I would need to do is change the base size if & as needed.

I personally recommend a Doomsday ark over a Doomstalker if you dont already have one, the DDA has way higher range and puts out a considerable amount of damage, the doomstalker is only really good if you are going for an assault army.

I would say get 9 Tomb Blades and 6 Wraiths because they are always good. 1 Cryptek, 3 Arks Magnetized, 1 Stalker, 1 Deceiver Shard and 1 Nightbringer. Hold off on everything else till the codex releases. You will want to drop the Royal Warden as it sucks. Indomitus has too many HQs and not enough Killy stuff.

Wraiths are some of the coolest looking units in the game in my opinion. Painting some right now haha. Also their role in 8th was super cool. As long as they keep their 3++ save they should still be cool too. Definitely a great choice to buy for a necron unit for both flavor and viability. I have a doom scythe too and it also looks sweet but I haven't had any amazing games with it. I'm still a novice though and don't have any solid aircraft tactics. Anyways, wraiths rock (at least in 8th) and a full unit has been among my favorite to use in the game. Soup's up gtg trust the fungus.

Honestly buying new boxes seems kinda like a bad idea to me. Most of us already have plenty of Necron warriors and scarabs (from time when they had rending rule and were ultimate vehicles destroyers). The new units inside with current known rules still do not convince me to invest in them. The only thing good with new boxed sets is that the ammount of models inside can make it easy to get started for new players, especially if you have siblings that wanna give it a try (however the balance issues will make 1 side loose badly). As for the old players I guess it would be best to wait for new Codex.

TL/DR: If you're new to Necrons then it should be a decent START but you'd still need to add stuff to be competitive. Details: You could get a 1400-1500 point core army pretty quickly with two Indomitus halves. I doubt that Warriors, Scarabs, or Melee-Destroyers will be garbage-tier once the new codex hits. You could then see what the codex has in store so you could add in some points / synergy efficient anti-vehicle/monster and anti-super-heavy-infantry units to the mix.

I'm coming back to 40K after a long break (stopped at 4th Ed.) and already have an SM army, so I'm considering keeping the other halves of the boxes to (re)start a Necron army. Got already some Destroyers/Heavy Destroyers (but I can see these disappear completely), some Tomb Spyder (I guess these also disappeared by now) a Nightbringer, and a Monolith. I think I'll keep the Necrons halves and wait until the Codex releases to see how I move forward with this :)

TBH getting 2nd Necron half, third Plasmancer (and maybe Skorpekh Lord, he's a beast and hopefully his buff will apply to ALL kinds of Destroyers), and third Destroyer unit seem like good idea IF You have Indomitus box (if not, WTF are you even doing, it's amazing deal!) I got basically that (and few other things, seem like people are selling Overlords and Reanimators for cheap so I got third of those too. I'll use them for conversion into Doomstalkers) and now I'm waiting for ANY info about Start Collecting (another great deal). If it's Shadowspear-like affair then You probably can get it's content (necron half, minus Overlord and Royal Guard, since they come on sprue with SM) for cheaper from Indomitus scalpels anyhow. I personally hope for Ghost Ark, +10-20 Warriors (or 10 warriors + 5 Immortals/Peaetorians) and most likely Cryptek for HQ as we had Overlord/CCB already.MAYBE new Destroyer too, if GW feels generous. That would give pretty nice force with almost all slots filled. That is, if they won't f&ck up.Don't f&ck up this GW. As for regular Destroyers, I think GW will stop selling them and slowly phase out them (get it, they're Necrons!) into legends, probably not in this book but most likely in next 4-8 years, in next edition and Codex.

soooooo… I bought 5 regular destroyers for my Necron army. Several necron players recommended them as auto-takes for Necrons. So I'm actually hoping that we don't get a new Destroyer sculpt any time soon lol

I'd bet $ that the previewed sculpts are dropping in the next few months if not weeks. Still I have 9 old-style destroyers I can field as standard or heavy as needed. I plan to proxy as new models IF the old ones are garbage tier OR if they go to legends -- even in a box set heavy destroyers were basically 25$ US per model once you ordered the upgrade kit :(

Those Necron players are pretty basic. For advising that. Those are "auto includes" if you don't mind worrying about them all game and then getting traded out. Your looking at a 250+ pt unit for that price. Which everyone will focus on. Definitely don't listen to people on reddit..most of them are just loud babies. I suggest getting WRAITHS. They have amazing rules and offer you a front line force to hold enemies back with there 3++ and T5 Also get some of those boats. They're amazing when standing still and usually enemies don't want to target them since D6 damage weapons are terrible against them. Also don't believe the haters. C tan shards are great especially the one with 2 powers . It's like free mortal wound and a mini flying dread that can punch out small armor Definitely wait on buy a bunch of items. But WRAITHS will be amazing in 9th especially with the new missions and rules not effecting them as much ..

If you're into Necrons for the hobby aspect then get any models that you want to assemble & paint. If you're more into competitive then I'd definitely wait until October. Out of your list the safest models are likely Immortals. Illuminor Szeras doesn't seem to do much currently but the model is almost cool enough looking to buy anyway ... LOL. In the right Dynasty ... one that gives objective secured -- I would think Tomb Blades would be OK. I'm skeptical about the rest of the units as they've got LOTS of competition in slot or have had what currently appears to be nerfs.

Then definitely the models you still enjoy building and hobbying and ofc just make sure if you want a detachment or patrol just sync up the units correctly. But you can fill those roles with the units you like. I think all those are cool choices but I think wraith and tomb blade is fast attack so just be mindful of you want smaller units you may only be able to field 1-2 or 2-3. You'll have to check your core book o don't list build but these the basics.

The necron half kinda sucks right now, we have 4 HQs and only 20 warriors, wich isn’t enough, and since the new codex isn’t out yet, we don’t know what troop to buy next

Yea. A lot of necron stuff just straight up sucks compared to other things. Maybe we have to see the army as a whole. Synergys and new stuff. The ctans need a buff imo.

about 99 ninjas you talkin about the deceiver/nightbringer shards? I think those can be really good, especially the deceiver shard... Then again, their rules could be totally changed in the new codex, i hate not knowing if my units are gonna be buffed or nerfed, makes me just want to not buy anything

@@Max78000 Honestly I think it's best to hold off until at least October before making major purchases. Then again I'd be shocked if there weren't floods of "old green rod models" out there for super cheap on the 2nd hand market so if you want to gamble and you get a stupid-good-offer then why not.

@@about99ninjas56 From what I hear from playtesters(?) is that 9th edition [codex] Necrons are VERY different from 8th edition codex Necrons. From the sneak peaks we got I could see room for space marine levels sort of synergys taking place which is something that historically Necrons haven't really had.

What do you think for the warriors in the box, flayers or reapers?

Depends on the map, mission, dynasty, and role. For warriors that are going to be sitting on backline objectives I would think flayers for the 24" range esp. if you've deep-strike screened. For Warriors pushing up to midfield objectives I think reapers may be an option esp. in the "new" Sautek dynasty where you can likely get 14" rapid fire range.

@@jessehammil3897 I'm going to do the same as we can mix and match in a 20 man unit if we want. But flayers* (the long range ones lol) just look overall better. It's definitely the "safe" pick meaning more flexible as it looks now

Personally till they release the Codex for any of my armies not going to buy anything which as I just finished painting all the Indomitus space marines up as space wolves and the Necrons in a can use them as any scheme is a pity - not going to add to my Orks till there Codex drops either - shame as from hints the play testers have dropped they have all the Codex's just wish GW would drop all of them at the same time but I imagine it will be drip fed over the next couple of years

Personally I am focusing on my outrider and not bothering to do too much with my Necrons until the new codex drops. Wraiths are still good enough. I think you missed out not adding tomb blades they can be a really nuisance and can help with stopping your opponent getting control of the middle of the board. Drop the reanimator it is the most overpriced piece of nonsense I have seen from GW for Necrons in a long while. Keep the plasmancer though. It has the cryptek keyword. If you were to add another cryptek to the army anything within "3 of the plasmancer would get +1 to its RP rolls

Wraiths definitely going to lose the 3+ invul as they got their basic save buffed. They fine for movement but I certainly wouldn't buy any ATM if you plan on having a good list.

I wouldnt buy anything necron until we see how butchered the codex is gonna be. Dont rule out that they will somehow nerf the doomsday ark..to make room for the doomstalker.
