Watching this in 2024 really makes me broken-hearted. Most of the train lines filmed have been inactive now. Such as Cibatu-Cikajang although they've reopened the Cibatu-Garut section. For Padang-Sawahlunto Coal Mine in West Sumatra, the track was badly destroyed by the earthquake in the 2000s and also the coal mine has been depleted. Thus, they closed the line. Leaving some of the newer diesel-electric locomotives stranded in Solok. Lastly, the Madiun-Ponorogo-Slahung line has also been closed for more than 40 years. This happened because in the 80s, the state railway company felt that some of the lines had to be closed because they couldn't compete with the fast-growing automobiles freight.

looking footage from where I live, but none. In my school days, train like this was still used daily to bring teak logs in Cepu. Saw it everyday and heard its whistling sounds regularly.

Interessante geschiedenis uit het tijdperk van het kolonialisme en zal goed bewaard blijven in het museum. De technologie is steeds moderner geworden en snelheid van mobiliteit is zeer noodzakelijk om de economische groei te ondersteunen. De Indonesische spoorwegindustrie is erin geslaagd haar eigen treinen te maken die meer oog hebben voor het milieu (elektrische treinen, treinen op batterijen en dieseltreinen met de nieuwste technologie die efficiënter zijn in het energieverbruik). Ze ontwikkelen ook een elektrisch aangedreven semi-snelle trein, gemaakt door hun eigen land. De ontwikkeling van hun spoorwegindustrie en -diensten is tegenwoordig zeer indrukwekkend in Zuidoost-Azië. Recentelijk beschikken zij momenteel ook over een sneltrein van 350 km/uur die al op West-Java rijdt en zal worden uitgebreid naar Oost-Java. Naast het openen van een nieuwe treinroute in Sulawesi, is er ook de mogelijkheid van hun nieuwe nationale hoofdstad in Kalimantan. Gefeliciteerd Indonesië 👍

Please re do this in English! I spent time in Indo doing surf trips. Mostly Sumatra Padang , Nias area. Un Godly hot & humid. But i did see remnants of railroads . Love these videos but dont understand language.

Only preserved locos are in service for entertainment and historical purposes, last active mainline engines disappeared in the late 70's to mid 80's.
