Mayday is such a great show. Their production values are top-notch. The writing, acting and directing -- compared to other, similar shows (such as Forensic Files, FBI Files, New Detectives, etc.) -- are so much better and the use of CGI when needed is superior to many movies. Last but not least is that, by making sure the actors closely resemble the actual people they are portraying ensures there is never any confusion as to who is who in the re-enactments. This is a genuinely great show. In doing all this, each story honors the victims and gives their lose meaning. Plus, I have learned so much about how the airline industry functions and especially how much effort is put into accident investigations.

I remember vividly that era of Indonesian aviation. Every month I would hear some incident with air travels, either plane skidding off the runways or something else. Delays are very common, sometimes up to 4 -6 hours. But that's the least of the concern. Everytime i board a plane, i knew i roll the dice. Adam Air was one of the worst accident that really shook the whole system. Flight safety is much better nowadays, and I do well to remember that every time I travel using aircraft, my safety is the culmination of all the efforts from people that work to make flying safe and the lives lost to give us the hard lesson about errors and how to prevent them.

My uncle died in this flight. Years after, I worked with one of Adam Air's stewardess once, she told me that she was meant to be in the flight because she keep asking to be assigned routes that goes to Manado because she want to visit her parents. She got assigned this one but had to decline because she was attending Church for New Year service that day. Her attitude is kind of comforting, she told me that every crew onboard have this mentality of "if we died, then we died" so they will be much more prepared.

To hear the voices of two people in a state of extreme stress and anxiety struggling, and failing, to save themselves and the lives of so many terrified passengers. I believe most nations want the NTSB involved because they more than likely don't give a damn who resolves the mystery of what killed all aboard unlike some here in this comment section seemingly offended by the frequent involvement of the most sophisticated and advanced plane crash detection team on Earth, instead these countries in which these accidents occur want to give answers to the families of the victims.

@nickv4073
@nickv4073 4 ай бұрын
I wouldn't trust this pilot let alone "mentor" me. Thats HORSE HOCKEY. The movement of liquid in an airplane can give completely contradictory evidence to the movement of the aircraft. In any coordinated movement of the aircraft, the g-forces in the aircraft are going to be felt as a vector perpendicular to the wings and pointing straight to the floor of the aircraft. In which case, the liquid in the bottle will remain level from the perspective of the pilot. Even when the aircraft is inverted (upside-down) or in a steep downward spiral into the ground. If you are in a coordinated turn with positive g-forces, the liquid will appear level. If you roll level out of the bank that is producing the turn too quickly, the liquid will falsely present a banking turn in the opposite direction. This will cause the pilot to re-enter the original banking turn. If you swirl the liquid, even slowly like in a turn, the liquid will continue to when the actual turn stops. The liquid’s momentum will cause this. If you accelerate or decelerate in a straight line, the will slosh forward or backward. This will give the impression that the aircraft is pitching nose up or nose down. There are other effects that would make both your inner ear and the half-full bottle untrustworthy indicators of attitude. That is why a gyro-stabilized Attitude Indicator is used instead. It’s gyroscopic rigidity in space makes its accuracy possible.patial disorientation, and what can stop it?

Why didn't the controller alert 574 that it was off course (which should have been noticed long before it was), ask whether there were nav problems, and offer radar assistance to return to the correct course? Why didn't the pilots advise ATC that they were having equipment issues and ask for help returning to and maintaining the correct course, AND avoiding any severe weather? Why didn't at least one of the pilots give priority to flying the airplane the "old fashioned" way when it became obvious that the airplane wasn't doing it for them? So the Captain is experienced. But it’s was the way the Adam Air conduct themselves that caused this up. They Didn’t Trained any of their pilots in event of Emergency and Adam Air rarely maintained their Planes.

For Indonesia it is expensive to buy planes, training, buying spare parts from western world due to their small value currency. Further indonesia passenger cannot afford expensive flight ticket. In order to have an airline industry in Indonesia, indonesia have to look to China for help as China planes and aervices are cheaper. Training are cheaper too. Now Transnusa are operating ARJ21 that are far affordable to them to provide safer flight.

When a flight-lost and headed into a vicious storm cell while supposedly under air traffic control-disappears off the radar, the air traffic controller, having received no response to his last two calls to the flight, then transmits into the blind: Adam 574, radar services terminated, contact xxxx control on 128.1 ?!! I've never been in that sort of situation nor overheard it while on frequency, but it sounds like ATC is yelling out after a non-comm flight on its way to peril, you've been dumped and we're not responsible for your safe passage anymore! Is that standard protocol?! Seems like a rather quick abandonment of responsibility and a CYA to protect ATC from liability. Contrast with two years later when US Air 1549 with both engines taken out by geese was headed for the freezing Hudson River… ATC kept calling even when there was no response, arranging and offering clearances to airports and runways in every direction, never giving up.

Maybe the safety culture in Indonesian aviation has improved since 2008 but there are still many people around the world who simply can't afford safety. Let me give you an example. Over the past few years, most of the Russian taxi market used a local service like Uber (who was forced out of the country by the sanctions). To use the service the drivers must comply with the regulations and it's own standards: have a taxi license and proper rest, mainain the car well, be high-rated, ect. But guess what? People are apalled with the prices and now more and more are starting to order shady taxis in small Telegram groups. Public transport don't reach a lot of places and it's difficult and scary to use when your mobility is limited. Many choose those fishy taxis because the prices are more affordable.
