A lot of people ask us to feature our hometown food, Indonesia. So today we are taking you to a suburb in Sydney, Kensington and Kingsford. While there are quite a few Indonesian restaurants in Sydney, there is only one restaurant that does traditional Padang food which is Pondok Buyung. This restaurant is serving food from the Padang region of West Sumatra (Sumatra Barat) which features halal food and its also Muslim friendly food. Some of the dishes that you need to try include beef rendang, sayur nangka (jackfruit curry), and tempeh. There are so many selections that you can choose, the price is quite affordable and cheap. Definitely include this on your Sydney cheap eats list!
Then, we headed down to Kingsford to Rosebery Martabak that serves Helmi's favourite Indonesian dessert: Martabak Manis (sweet Indonesian pancake). This mouthwatering dessert is normally found in Indonesian street food stalls. Alert: highly addictive yet so much calories!
We also take you to an Indonesian grocery shop called White Lotus in Kingsford where you can buy Indonesian snacks, Indonesian cooking ingredients, drinks, Indomie (instant noodles) and even some Indonesian street food as well. If you are thinking where to eat in Sydney or what to eat in Sydney, hope you enjoy this Indonesian food tour episode!

Oh wow. I first went to Pondok Buyung about 25 years ago when I was a poor student living in Kensington. Their cheap, generous and delicious food was a life saver! I haven't been there since before the pandemic but now I am sooo hungry for their rendang and sambal fish! Thanks for reminding me how good their food is :)

In Indonesia, u guys call it murtabak manis, here in Malaysia, we call it apam balik. In Malaysia, murtabak is a wrapped roti with spicy minced meat filling, eaten with pickled onions n curry gravy.
@nickandhelmi
@nickandhelmi 3 жыл бұрын
It's like thicker version of apam balik right Yasin. We called the savoury martabak as martabak telor or martabak daging 😊 inside is minced beef, egg and with spicy vinegary sauce called cuko 😊 some places do curry as sauce as well which is like Malaysia one. So much similarities love this 🥰

is it the one inside the Harbourside Darling Harbour? Yeah martabak has 2 version - sweets and savory one. Savory one has meat & egg with some sauce for the sides :)
