This one had a poor QC in subtitle. 1. The most obvious part is the price of cooking oil. If the price is 0.0012$ per liter we'll be swimming on it, it should be around 1.2$. 2. The subtitle for the last interview is totally different with what the person is saying. That guy is talking about latest palm oil export temporary ban, in which he responded by something like "The method is extreme, but such method was effective in reducing the price gradually and protecting local customer -- at least for now"

This news pretty much did a bad job in translating foreign language in general, other than English and Chinese. Just look at their previous news I can't help but thinking that they just use Google Translate instead of hiring an actual translator for the respective language

Pretty sure it's a bad QC: The original edit has a few extra stories that were cut for the final version, but the TL remains and got mistakenly switched with the one that made the cut. Or someone sent the wrong txt file. Or basically anything that could be prevented with having a QC.

Fun fact. One of the reason why Indonesian Diesel is cheap is because they can use processed palm oil as substitute. Literally gas from plants. Its used around 40%, but in the future there might be possible to increase this up to 100%

Actually that common problems since long time ago, thats why many people dont want to be a farmers now. Expensive works (buy seeds, fertilizers) and cant sell high enough because of those evil distributors. Thats why its actually hard to say that Indonesia is a agriculture country, because our farmers are in bad conditions.

Where do you quote those IDR 17,000 per liter figure for Indonesian cooking oil. I can assure you the price today even back in May was much higher than that. The Indonesian government had stopped export ban, then the price soared again not long after that. Palm oil farmer cannot really enjoy High palm oil prices, because all the gain made by palm oil prices ARE Largely offset by the soaring price of fertilizer (due to Russia invasion to Ukraine, since Gas is one of the component to make fertilizer).

the crisis issue wasn't happened because of Russia-Ukraine conflict. Stock of domestic consumption was reduced because exporters went crazy. Currently, the Indonesian government has opened-closed the export valves to secure domestic consumption stocks.

A couple of months back in Asda U.K. sunflower oil was £1.10 a litre it is now £1.60 so if I see it cheap anywhere I stock up more. Things are only going to get worse with everything price wise, so buy it now if you can especially flour, pasta, oil if not already 😊

$0.0012 ? $1 is around 14.000 IDR. If you say 17.300 IDR is the average cost, WHILE the real price is around 25.000 IDR. You don’t have to be great at math to know tat 17.300 is greater than 14.000 which means it’s worth more than $1 per litre. Oh it is still VERY CHEAP tho. Yeah, if you live on daily consumption of $10 /meal. Food is around $1 for a complete meal in here (carbs+protein+fibres) and our foods are heavily relying on cooking oil. Lots of national dishes are fried or sautéed in oil. Now imagine and do the estimation yourself And Russia-Ukraine war situation have no direct issues towards us, it is because of the mafia hoarding the oils, which sadly come from the higher ups but nothing new from a corrupted country

the oil is getting more expensive because many companies export the oil and didn't fill their quota which government demand... we used palm oil for cooking and it produces by its own land so it's not because the conflict between those two nations... it's ironic tho because i live in the province where there are lots of palm industries.. it gives pollution, there were floods because of deforestation, they make fire to open the land for planting yet the oil is expensive... after what we've been through..

I would not ban palm oil export, instead ask buyer to pay in rupiah. That way, global demand will drop but rupiah will rise stronger. Double win for Indonesia. We can see when Russia asked EU to pay gas in rouble. Demand for Russian gas drops a little (because not all can meet the condition) but rouble rises significantly against USD. We cannot rely on cheap currency to boost commodity export anymore. World has to distribute wealth accordingly. Furthermore, soy bean and canola got issues, palm oil exporter can leverage on this...you gotta pay what u got to pay, pricier gas, pricier edible oil.

When the government issued the standardized price, they hold the goods (resulting in scarcity in market circulation)... Distributors are corrupting everything. If I'm in charge, I'll threaten to never opening the export route for three whole years if the need is not met. Ukraine/Russia problem would be gone by then, see who will cry and laugh. It's so frustrating, I bet even the farmer didn't rise their price by much. The government is really slow about this, dumb af. We should protect the farmers and guard against the distributors and corporates. If Indonesians' needs are not met, the world can forget for cooking oil export from Indonesia.

India tried planting palm trees to extract the oil, a couple of years ago. However, it did not work out as the soil and climate was not comparable to Indonesia and Malaysia. Brazil is very reliant on soy beans and farmers there are not keen to plant palm oil.

The news is not about common people but small industries. If its regular folks, we have option just to boil or steam our food. But what about small industries selling chips? (In the video showing workers frying tempe). Did they must change to microwave them? Or using Airfryer? Then the electricity cost will soaring. bio fuel goal of b100 of all palm oil is one of the biggest culprit. all it did is guaranteeing palm oil demand. now you got a crisis and your realize you have shot your own foot. we should have sticked through thick and thin with jathropa. it was uneconomical yes but it grew everywhere even in ex coal mining locations... it would be decades long painful bleeding but boy we would've saved our economy and gain surplus today had we stick with it.

US$1.20 for a liter of cooking oil? I think thats cheap. A liter of coconut cooking oil in our country, phils cost almost $2.00 and yet we keep frying chickens
