Does anyone else ever find themselves coming on KZbin to look at something specific only to get distracted by a recommendation and half an hour later you've forgotten what you wanted to watch because you've been watching some shove ha'penny from the best part of half a century ago despite not understanding the rules? 😂

As a 50 year old disabled carer. This brings back many happy memories. From the late Clive Mayers to the first [televised] woman of pool ]Vera Selby. Here in the South of England Southern Television showed The Indoor League at 1.30pm after ITN"s First Report with the late Robert Keys. Yorkshire Television was the first ITV Company to use computer captions in it"s sports coverage. Did The Indoor Lague have Women"s Arm Wrestling as well as the Men"s Arm Wrestling? From the New Forest GOD BLESS!

I used to watch it as well in the Tyne Tees area who showed it at 12.30pm followed by the news presented by Robert Kee &/or Leonard Parkin

My late father was a shove ha'penny champion for many years, our house was full of trophies. I don't know if the wooden board is a Yorkshire thing, but down in the west country we used to play on slate boards. Abiding memory is of my dad scrubbing the back off old ha'pennies with sandpaper and practicing on the kitchen table! He always seemed to be off to the pub for some match or other: darts, crib, skittles and shove ha'penny. I wasn't interested: I feel a pang of guilt when I remember him trying to teach me how to play cribbage and I thought it was a laugh, what a horrible kid I was! Sad to think that pub games like this are all but dead...unless you know different!

John B I'm from the west country too. I remember slate boards, instead of wood, and slate is more fair, imho, as different woods are drastically different in the way the ha'penny slides. I used to love bar billiards and did a google search recently and could find only one pub with a table in the whole town. If you watch today's players of bar billiards you'll be bored within 5 minutes as the words best players can spend along time at the table but the tactics make it a non-spectator sport. The saddest lost is the smoking ban. I thought this was a democracy and I thought you could choose if you wanted to go to a smoking or non-smoking pub. I mean it's not as if your in a health shop your drinking pint of poison ! but you can't smoke poison, anyway.... .

It is a traditional Yorkshire dartboard which has no trebles.
@portcullis56224 жыл бұрын
Trebles are for southern softies lad! Back in t'early 70s, up in t'north, we were so poor we couldn't afford enough wire to 'ave trebles. In fact, some boards didn't even 'ave doubles!
