When I have pest infestations on bushy plants, I wrap the base in cling film or aluminum foil (or whatever works best) and dunk them upside down in a bucket full of the solution I’d normally spray them with. Then I can insure every part of every leaf with be treated.

What about eggs in the soil?
@aniliname
@aniliname 4 ай бұрын
@@jessicapetrin1655 well, a lot of common pests don't lay eggs in the soil, but rather in leaf tissue. But a trick I've learned for dealing with critters in the soil is to sprinkle some tobacco on the surface (or even make like a tea of it) and then water the plant. the tobacco is toxic to animals but not to plants. you can also just put a top dressing of sand, pebbles, or pon and it'll suffocate them over time

Don’t sweat the lemon lime, you’re gonna love it soon I promise. I too bought one on sale that was overwatered and growing lopsided so I ended up chopping and repotting and man is it gorgeous now! Totally one of my favorites! Just make sure it’s getting enough light!

Peperomia have fine roots and I killed mine by overwatering. I only watered when the leaves drooped. But it also sounds like the soil mix it is in might be too water retentive. I just generally avoid all the plants you just described bc they are too fussy! Lol

Oh my goodness, the zebra plant is one of my biggest struggle bus plants. I have cut it back to stumps as a last resort and its last chance 😖.. and yesss im sooo over winter as well! Bring on spring. I love that u used my favourite saying, 1st year they sleep, 2nd year they creep, 3rd year they leap. Im waiting for the leap from so many of my plants lol. Great vid. Thankyou so much for sharing 🌻

Ohhhh I'm considering cutting it back and planting the cuttings back into the pot but need to do a bit of research first about how to propagate it. :) Today was a beautiful day in Central Victoria, it felt like spring almost! :D I think it might have been you that commented that saying, I'll always remember it. :) Thanks for watching x

I had a similar pepperomia experience too. I do believe it's the soil it was in so I'm avoiding houseplants grown in peat moss and coir mix. I learnt that nursery does that so they don't need to water the plants often. Unfortunately some plants don't thrive in those mix, esp when it gets compact over time. Sadly some nurseries don't get it right and inexperienced houseplant parents like me gets into big trouble when I buy these plants and bring them home. I'm on the lookout for local growers who are truly passionate about their plants and not growing in mass production. Love your sharing today, and as always all your videos. Cheers.

I find that peperomias have such small, fine root systems that they do not require larger pots! I have had a pixie peperomia and a parallel peperomia for over 3 years and they are both quite large and are in fairly shallow 5” pots! I also have a peperomia prostrata that I have had over 3 years and it is still in the original nursery 3 1/2” pot. My peperomia hope is in a shallow bonsai pot that is very shallow and about 3”x5” rectangular. Both the prostrata and hope are cascading out of the pot a good 6-12”!! They would be a lot longer, but I often cut them back to propagate. I let the soil dry out completely, then water thoroughly, they all seem to really do well with that!

My lemon lime is currently about 2 and a half feet tall I have to get a new moss pole for it : it's a prolific grower I purchased it as a rescue plant for 3 dollars. I propagated a piece that I mistakenly broke off during winter, it did nothing all winter soon as spring arrived it took off. I've only had them for almost two years. My zebra I purchased for my birthday last year and it kept dropping leaves and turning brown on the leaves. I moved it to my kitchen by the sink and now it's starting to grow with no problem. It must have felt I was going to give it away and decided to get it's life together.

I soak all my new plants with neem soon as they get home and repot them in good soil. A lot of them already have some pests from the nursery and then the stress of needing repotting and improper potting from nurseries makes them even more susceptible. Sorry to see the death of your china doll. I threw out my first hibiscus tree that way because originally I didn't know plants could get nasty pests. I killed my first china doll but I just got a new one and ready for a better outcome! Haven't seen any spidermites since pretreatment of all my plants. Also a regular biweekly-monthly neem treatment.

I would definitely repot your peps. I find they like to stay on the drier side and I don’t even bottom water very long if I do, I usually actually top water them but hold leaves up or use a fine nozzle watering can to get the soil and not the leaves and I don’t give them much honestly and then at the moment I can wait weeeeeeks before I restart with a decent splash (but way less than my normal plants water) and that’s it. They are one of my favourite plants and all are still alive so far including my moonlight. They also don’t love much humidity imo so that could also be a factor if they are near your humidifier? Mine copes ok in my laundry with the drier on but I moved it to the second toilet off of the laundry to give it some less humidity and it’s doing ok. Not bright light plants but some indirect medium light is fine. They are pretty picky I guess but once you nail it they are hell easy imo.

My calathea rufibarba has been nothing but a diva for me since I bought it 2 years ago...until recently. Like you I tried everything w this darn plant. Rain water, humidity, different variations of soil fertilizer and light ect. Nothing seemed to work. As a last resort I stuck it in a self watering pot and told it if it didn't do well in that I was done w it. Well the darn thing has done nothing but thrive in that pot. The new leaves are beautiful green and no crispy tips (yet - knock on wood)It now resides in a bathroom that has medium/low indirect light and only gets a humidity boost when we shower - no more sitting beside a humidifier or special treatment lol perhaps a self watering pot could be a solution for your woes with this plant as well 😉 I also have a lemon lime P...I love this plant. I know a lot of people think it's boring but I find it to be quite pretty. Once you figure it's needs out it is a crazy fast grower. I hope yours takes off for you soon and your love for it returns 😃 mine has nearly tripled in size since I purchased it 1.5 years ago. Good luck Chickadee 😁

I think these types of plants just like to be consistently moist and don't like to dry out as much as others! That's such a great story, thanks for sharing Cheryl. That's another thing I could do with the zebra plant, but I was also considering chopping and propagating it for a video. haha! I've got some hope for my lemon lime. It's picked up since I repotted it into a more appropriate pot size for the size of the plant, and it's already doing better. Fingers crossed mine does well like yours! :D

OK, advises for peperomia... Those pots are too big, I don't think the soil mix is bad just keep them rootbound and use Nick Pileggi's taco test to water them. Peperomias like more light than people think.

Peperomias are plants that don't like wet feet. I have a mix of organic soil that I add perlite to in great abundance.I also add an inch of small gravel to the bottom of the pot to help the water drain away. I had two plants that were droopy and nothing seemed to work, so I decided to completely repot them. Each was moved to a slightly bigger pot and the old soil was almost completely removed along with some rotted roots. (They were still in the bring home pots from 2 months ago.) After they got into the new soil and received a bit of water with sucullent fertilizer, I put them back in their SW facing window. They love light. That was what they needed. Both of them are standing tall and have added new baby leaves. One of them even bloomed! Maybe this is what your peperomias need. Maybe not. I did learn a trick to check if water is needed. Taco test. Fold a leaf like a taco. If it resists, don't water. If it doesn't, water.
