My dad belonged to a club that flew this type of plane in an exibit hall at the Michigan State Fairgrounds. The wings were made by placing a film on the surface of water in a tub, then carefully lifting the bubble like filmed wing and letting the film dry and harden. They flew about the speed of a slow walk. I was fairly young and got bored. The only excitement occurred when they flew through a sun beam coming through two closed windows in the roof. They could be destroyed by a slight breeze.

I believe the formula for microfilm is 50% butrate dope,50% glycerin dropped on water and lifted when dry with a wire hoop, then transferred to frame and hot wired to frame very carefully. Some models I made used thin saran wrap as i could never get the microfilm ingrediants as a kid.

faster props=thicker rubber=more weight, also for thicker rubber you need a stronger body which is also more weight
