Indoors Away from Home

“Indoors Away From Home” offers a glimpse into the living situation of migrant domestic workers in the Middle East, especially Jordan. Trapped by the Kafala (sponsorship) system whereby their residency and livelihood is bound by their employers. Unfortunately, not all employers give their employees their full rights, which leads to modern slavery. The 2022 report “Global Estimates of Modern Slavery” indicates that there are 50 million people in situations of modern slavery on any given day; either forced to work against their will or in a marriage that they were forced into. Domestic workers in Jordan are frequently mistreated by their employers. This film gives a voice to domestic workers in Jordan and brings in expert opinion on how to improve their working conditions.
