We check out an issue with a mower that usually presents as throwing belts, sounding loud or vibrating on a John Deere S240 and we show how to repair these issues
These are the most common problems when a belt is being thrown off consistently, the deck is cutting uneven or making loud noises.
This John Deere riding mower has a 42" edge deck and an electric pto clutch
This same process works for many other models that John Deere makes with an electric clutch such as the L, LA, D, S & E Series of various models. S100 & S130 are exactly the same I believe
We go over the full diagnostic process and repair of the issue with tips and thought process
We show how to remove the deck on an S240 riding mower and how to re-install
We also go over the process of how to level the deck
Parts Used:
Belt part number UC27430 amzn.to/3QWOe9Z

About Us:
My name is Martin. I have been repairing tools and small engines for almost 20 years. We operate a small engine repair shop in Illinois. We service / repair Briggs & Stratton, Kohler, Kawasaki, John Deere, Cub Cadet, Toro Tecumseh, Loncin, Honda, Craftsman, Husqvarna, MTD, Troy Bilt, Simplicity, John Deere, Exmark, LCT, Generac and many more brands. We work on riding mowers, walk behind mowers, snow blowers, zero turns, generators, pressure washers and much more. We normally repair about 3,000 pieces of equipment every year and look at many more that are beyond an affordable repair. Hopefully our videos will save you some money and give you the information you need to work on your own equipment or figure out the issue at hand.

Another good video, You didn't show greasing the spindles, but after watching your other videos and seeing your attention to detail, I'm sure you greased it off camera. Before I forget you also do a great job of explaining what your doing as your working.

@@IndRepair Thanks, i've been retired for 7 years now, never been a "mechanic" but love to tinker and figure out issues on mowers and equipment. Family, neighbors and friends now bring me their equipment to diagnose, repair and service. Your videos help to direct me what to look for and how to fix it while you share multiple scenarios during your repairs.

Thank you, I appreciate that! We are fair as possible try not to nickel and dime people like I feel everyone else around here does. For example $85 labor to install a battery during a service is highway robbery for a standard mower in my opinion

I Am Surprised That The Deck Is Still In Pretty Good Condition, No Apparent Rust On Top. The Amount Of Grass/ Mud Under That Deck Was Surprising. It Must Have Been There For A Long Time To Grow Mould... Got To Clean Them Once In A While , For Them To Last Longer Greasing The Spindles Is A Waste Of Time And Grease, They Have Plastic Covers On The Bearings, The Inside Plastic Covers On The Bearings Really Need To Be Removed, So The Grease Can Actually Get To The Bearings . The Bearing Manufacturers Only Put Minimal Amount Of Grease Into The Bearings Good Video
@IndRepair

We use Rotary spindles a lot because the bearings are good quality and actually has good grease and a good amount. I was extremely surprised how bad it was but with almost no rust on top

We are in Bloomington, IL. They wanted me to get surgery 15 years ago told me I would never be pain free. Most days are pretty darn good and it hurts a lot less now than it did then. It goes out 2 or 3 times a year but managable without their drugs. Not letting them cut me open for that! Thanks for watching!

How do I access the Transmission Pully in the back of an s240? It has been making a chunk sound and I think the teeth on the pulley may be worn. I lost my manual. TY
@IndRepair
@IndRepair 2 ай бұрын
You will need to drop it for full access, take off linkages and then remove the 4 bolts holding it to the frame. You should be able to see it up top just above the tire have some access but will not be much, maybe enough to confirm your suspicions

Why did you not grease the spindles before installing them
@IndRepair
@IndRepair 4 ай бұрын
I normally talk to the customer and give them the option to remove the inner seal or to leave it on the bearings. I let them know if they are not planning on servicing it to leave the seals and don't worry about greasing it. If they are going to be regularly serviced, we remove the inner seals on the bearings. I have been meaning to make a video on this for a while now...Got it on the list
