My neighbor put his Cub Cadet snow blower away last winter without draining the carburetor. Just the other day he asked me If I could clean the carburetor. I told him yes and told him more than likely the idle jet is plugged. Sure enough, it was plugged, and it took one of my micro drills to open the jet up. What came out was a hard black substance no doubt caused by ethanol fuel. I shared with him to use non ethanol fuel which we have at a Speedway real close to us. I use non ethanol fuel and Sea Foam in all my OPE. Never have any carburetor issues. The Speedway carries 89 octane non ethanol fuel that seems to work really well in all my OPE. I've also used 92 octane none ethanol and my machines seem to cold start better using 89 octane. Small 4 cycle engines are relatively low compression and don't need higher octane made for higher compression engines. Enjoyed your very Indepth video. I am sure your videos are a great help to many seeking help with their OPE.

Great video, very clear and concise and helpful, all though discovered that when the key is moved into the start position the fuel solenoid will open, allowing the fuel bowl to fill,thus giving a enough fuel to start, but when you release the key to spring back to the run position the fuel solenoid will close stopping further fuel flow, "Dies After Starting". possible solutions: hot wire the solenoid so it stays open, or replacing ignition switch unless there is someway to repair the ignition switch?

Why in the H E double toothpicks would you remove the muffler? All you have to do is lift the motor up and the pipes come out of the muffler. Muffler stays where it is! Also spread the governor clamp with a flat head screwdriver and it will come right off without prying. And by removing the top guard over the fan on top of the motor, the motor will sit flat on the bench, and you don't have to fight it from rolling over an you. One more thing. How can you work in a shop that dirty. If I ever go into a shop to get work done, and I walk into a shop that looks like that, I turn around and walk out. My opinion is if someone is to lazy to take the few minutes a day to clean, they are to lazy to do the job the right way. Not to mention when you put an engine back together you want a clean enviroment!
@IndRepair
@IndRepair 3 күн бұрын
I find it easier to get everything put back together by removing the couple bolts for the muffler instead of having to drop the engine in perfectly straight by lifting it up. Easier on the back. Governor clamp goes well either way. Never had one roll off the table yes. Work area is clean when re-assembling the engine lift table and floor not so much. Just because a place has a nice shiny showroom doesn't mean that is the way the shop area is. The job was done correctly

@@IndRepair wasn't talking about showrooms. I was talking about shops. I worked for a John Deere ag dealership when I was 18 and they taught me to keep a shop clean. If you spilled a drop of oil on the floor and the Svc mgr walked by and saw it you got your butt handed to you, even if it was only there for 2 minutes. Then many years later I worked at a shop that nobody gave a crap about filth. I didn't work there long. Couldn't stand the working conditions in that pig sty.

Hi Martin, I've been doing DIY projects for over twenty years. The main differences between a Pro and a DIYer are having the proper tools, supplies, and experience in using them. Having done this repair, the appropriate tool for crimping is a KLEIN TOOLS 3005CR Ratching Crimping Plyers. I would also use solder on the connection and spray it with CRC Battery Terminal Protector.
@IndRepair
@IndRepair 3 күн бұрын
Hey there! The crimping pliers will get it done of course but most of the viewers on the channel are DIY types who are not going to have these types of tools. With a pair of regular channel lock pliers or anything else that can crush you can get a good connection. I have crimping pliers but honestly hate to use them I do not think they do a good job at all. Solder is not required for a job like this. You will not find a stock battery cable or a replacement that has soldered wiring at this connection. They are all crush/crimp connections. If you want to beef it up and are worried about the connection, by all means go that route, but it is definitely overkill. Battery terminal protector does help prevent corrosion over time for sure

You can rebuild it but most machine shops to bore/sleeve them are going to be almost the price of a new one by the time you are done anyway.
