Ammo1313 - What appears to be "bare" copper wire in the video is in fact "magnet" wire. Copper wire with a high temperature clear/colored insulating varnish. Not really a good idea to twist the wires together as shown in this video because too much flexing of the varnish will caused it to fall off and then you will have a short circuit instead of an inductor.

I love your videos, very informative. I'm fairly new to electronics so please forgive my ignorance, how would one go about figuring out the specifics (number of turns,wire gauge,etc) to achieve a desired voltage?
@jeremyhenderson1635 жыл бұрын
I'm trying to build a stator for a 12-24v generator (2-phase, 8 coils, using 20 gauge wire), but I'm uncertain of the coil design needed to achieve the voltage I desire (at 1650RPMs, if that is a needed factor?). I have scoured the internet looking for a solution, but I haven't had much luck. Probably due to my limited electronics vocabulary.

thank you so much for this great explanation! Though I have one question, you can use inductors to filter out HF(high frequency) current changes but you use capacitors to filter out low frequency current changes, yes? that's why you cant just use capacitors instead of inductors right?

I am going to make a LC filter for video transmitter that draws 150 ma at 12 volts that will be supplied by 11.1 V 2200ma lipo battery. I am going to use a small inductor form an old power supply that looks like the one that is 3rd from the right in your video. Since the transmitter only draws 150 ma I should be fine using a smaller inductor and a 470uf capacitor rated at 25 volts. Am I thinking correctly?

I have an old 'borrowed' phone charger in front of me with a bridge rectiIfier, a mess of capacitors, a voltage regulator and what looks like an inductor. I have a question. I would like to measure capacitors on my dead LCD backlight issue and bought a "Inductor Resistors Capacitor LCD Digital Meter Tester" from ebay @ 17.99$+8$ shipping (almost the same price as LC1000-A you posted in the description). Now both of those seem to only test for capacitance / inductance, in F or Henry. However the meter in your video also shows the ESR value. Three questions:

1. when a capacitor or coil goes bad, can this be detected using LC-1000A by measuring only capacitance / resistance of the particular part? Is there a possiblity that a coil / capacitor still reads good inductance / capacitance values BUT has high ESR and therefore is bad? ..actually that's only one question. Thanks!

I want to run a 10kw DC motor at 72v but can only use a 24v battery. I was simply going to make a voltage trebler using capacitors, but could I use an inductor to smooth the output? I have access to any size iron core up to big enough to put your head in! Also, would an inductor demand current from the battery such that by trebling voltage, I still get a duty cycle that is more than 1/3 ? (But run the battery down faster of course)

So AC voltage is square form by adding smoothing Caps and bridge rectifiers only smooths (less pure DC current) the current out so much but if you put an inductor before the caps and rectifier then the end result would be more purer (stable) DC volts?
