8 years and still going strong. It is still very powerful and I use it every day. I cook steaks on high heat in a cast iron skillet and collards in a pot. The induction stove and air vent still work perfectly together.

Huh, that's good for you. My parents bought a similar KitchenAid (Whirlpool is pretty much the same company) about a year ago and the vent doesn't retract anymore. The repair folks have already replaced the actuation motor and top switch. Something still isn't right. Dad thinks the mainboard might be fried or something. The reviews for that model on Amazon are universally atrocious. It's either a KXD4630YSS or KXD4636YSS, depending on the width (30" or 36"). The repair people charge them $100 per trip, and they've already been out twice, so it's not gonna make financial sense much longer to try to professionally maintain it. I'm hoping there's a clear repair video or manual somewhere demonstrating how to troubleshoot this failure mode. KZbin has a few things for the switch, blower, and motor, but those have all been ruled out and that mainboard is not a cheap component. This whole experience has been a huge debacle for my family 😮💨

I want this!! Awesome combo.

We love the downdraft and use it every day. It pairs perfectly with the induction cook top, but would work great with any type of cooktop.

Craig Campbell Where does the vent go, is there piping underneath or the vent itself simply neutralizes the odor?
@craigcampbell33767 жыл бұрын
The fan vents the air through a duct under the house to an exhaust outlet, just like a clothes dryer does.

@@craigcampbell3376 Does the downdraft fan fit in a standard 24in depth cabinet? Thanks

This is actually a Whirlpool downdraft, model UXD8630DYS1. I had mistakenly listed as KitchenAid.

Will it work with only Bosch or any model cooktop?
@craigcampbell33764 жыл бұрын
@@Drkchocolate001 The downdraft is basically installed independently behind the cooktop, so it would work with any cooktop. Our installer had to cut the hole in the granite a little bit larger to accommodate both.

How do you find the downdraft fan now that a year has passed?
@King0of0town4 жыл бұрын
Hi Craig, when you installed the downdraft did you cut out separate holes for it and the cooktop in the countertop or 1 big hole for both? thanks!
@craigcampbell33764 жыл бұрын
The downdraft and stovetop share the same hole. We had an experienced installer from the local appliance store do the work. He had to slightly enlarge the hole to allow both to fit.

The Bosch downdraft vent motor goes out about every 15 months. It is a $600 repair. The warranty is good for 12 months. Not satisfied!!

Are you sure that downdraft is Kitchenaid? The unit on Amazon and your unit are different. Do you have the model number? 30 or 36" Thanks in advance

Hi Craig, I'm looking at buying a newer version of this downdraft, wondering if you wouldn't mind commenting how it's holding up? Thanks!
@craigcampbell33766 жыл бұрын
Hi Sachin, I have almost 3 years of using the cooktop/downdraft daily and have had no issues. I would definitely get both again.

Awesome thanks! I did purchase it and it will be installed in a few months (getting my island built).

I have the same down draft Whirlpool model. My unit does not stay up. Have you had any problems with your unit. Any advice would be most appreciated. Thanks.
@craigcampbell33764 жыл бұрын
Hi Peter, The down draft is still going strong and being used every day. No issues with staying up, but occasionally somebody will not understand that you have to press and hold the button for a second or two until it gets moving. That has caused the unit to be slightly up or down from where it should be.

I love to cook steak and deep fried food. Will it be powerful enough to suck in those greasy steam? I'm planning to buy a new house, but the house only has this kind of downdraft vent.

Yes

@craigcampbell33767 жыл бұрын
Yes, the only area that gets hot is the part of the pan that is over the induction coil.

can you reduce the noise by aplying something around the downdraft motor? Just felt a little noisy in 4th speed...
@craigcampbell33767 жыл бұрын
I don't think there is any way to reduce the noise because what you are hearing is the fan on high speed sucking a lot of air through the filters. We normally use the fan on the lower settings which is much less noisy.

Just run the vent screens through through the dishwasher. very easy.

Easy to keep clean?
@craigcampbell33764 жыл бұрын
It's easier than cleaning an electric glass top because food does not get baked on to it. The pans are what gets hot. You just wipe it off.

Does your downdraft hood work well for smells being captured?
@craigcampbell33764 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. It does a great job removing cooking smells. We have used the cooktop and downdraft every day for over 5 years and it is still going strong.
@Drkchocolate0014 жыл бұрын
Hello Can you tell me the part numbers for both please
@ericw2007 жыл бұрын
Can you provide the brand and model number? Thanks.
@craigcampbell33767 жыл бұрын
I thought it was sold as a Kitchenaid product, but the model sticker lists: Whirlpool Corporation Model No. UXD8630DYS1. Of course Whirlpool owns Kitchenaid so they may have sold it under both brand names.
@King0of0town4 жыл бұрын
Hi Craig, did you have to cut out 2 separate holes in your countertop for the cook top and the downdraft, or 1 big hole for both? Thanks!
@MikeTrieu6 жыл бұрын
I don't think I like vertically-raising downdraft systems like this. I'd much prefer an under-the-counter venting and filtering system that reduces noise and doesn't block my view of the kitchen, not to mention not having to worry about that retraction motor breaking down.
@craigcampbell33766 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, I had the same concerns when I made this purchase 3 years ago. My previous Jenn-Air cooktop had the integrated non-raising downdraft. It worked but since the vent was at the level of the bottom of the pans it could not exhaust the cooking smells/steam as well this vertically-raising unit. The downdraft is only up when I'm cooking something that will smell or steam up the kitchen. When off, the downdraft in almost flush with the cooktop, so there has really been no issue with blocking.
@ginacoffee86596 жыл бұрын
Yes, I have that Jenn-Air and agree with everything you said! It's too weak. After LOTS of research, this is about the only option for cooktops on islands unless you want a ceiling hood/vent that blocks A LOT of kitchen view.
