If Indurain was on EPO how did he beat his team mate Delgado by 5 minutes, assuming the whole team were doping. He got most of his time gains by the 45km time check and basically hung on for the last 20 km. Physiologically he was made for the time trial, he had a huge engine. You don't see gains like this anymore simply because ITT are only half this length on the Tour today. Otherwise guys like Rohan Dennis would be winning by 3 minutes.Interesting to see Virenque lose by 10 minutes. Obviously he wasn't on the juice in 1992.

@alexserrano2850
@alexserrano2850 6 жыл бұрын

I don'ts agree with you. The Big Mig had more talent than Lemond. Lemond was a hard trier and a pioneer. He was the man who worked on areo-dynamics and made it work in cycling. If you look at Mig's peddle style to Lemond's, you may be able to see the efficiency in Mig's compared to Lemond. Guys, I was a very successful cyclist in my 3rd world country. I look at many tour races. It is clear that the big Miguel was a better built cyclist at the time. If you look carefully at his posture, his body movement, he was just efficient. unlike the other Guys, Notice only under extreme situations, the other parts of his body moves. His peddle stroke starts from his hip, and only from there downward works. This peddle style allowed the even use of the muscle groups on his legs, he could have then shifted a bit on his saddle, to rest some muscles, and use others more. I tried for many tears to copy his style, when I got it, I won more races than my age. The Guy was great, just give him is credit.

@@Souliban Please tell me why would I be sad at not being Spanish? Yes there’s no direct proof of EPO use but plenty of anecdotal evidence. A statement by Greg Lemond on his 1991 tour said he was in better form than any of his previous tour wins yet that year he got smoked. He never accused Indurain of doping but rather implied the entire peleton was fuelled. You’re a dreamer if you don’t think he was assisted by substances.
@Souliban
@Souliban 3 жыл бұрын
@@derekmclean5603 you seems pretty jealous. Why are you here in a video about a Spanish sportsman, considered the best cyclists ever, saying he was on EPO without a single proof? Most of his rivals are dead and or were on dopping ( proved) . Indurain never had a positive and he still alive and pretty healthy 🤷🏻‍♂️ . So if you still here saying that is pure jealousy of Spain and it's goals. Black Legend was made under English jealousy to defeat the SuperPower Spain in a Moral War...You more or less are doing the same. 😄

Ah yes, the next best rider. That rider being Armand de las Cuevas, who was also doping and was caught as a user of banned substances in the Giardini Margherita pharmacy raid. Or perhaps you mean the next best rider, Gianni Bugno, who tested positive for caffeine in 1994 and had to serve a two-year suspension. Or maybe the next best rider after these, Zenon Jaskula, who admitted in 2007 to have consumed cortison and caffeine. It's such the prevalence of doping in those years that even the last placed cyclist in that time trial (18 minutes off the pace), Alan Peiper, jumped a control in 1986. Indurain was the best, full stop. In a time where 99% of the peloton was under your doctor of choice, his own superior physique came through.
