Howdy rotting pilgrims.
We've made a Death Guard scene taking inspiration from a formidable piece of art. Experience the Plague Marines like never before - this is our take for a basic to intermediate Death Guard scheme in the grimdark painting style, where the kitbash, shapes and form are definitely huge part of the charm.

See this is the Death Guard I fell in love with as a kid. Hulking, rusted and gross. The modern gw sculpts just look like mimics from dnd.

I very much agree. Mouths and tentacles. I really can't imagine getting infested with pink tentacles and mouths would be the right contextual consequence for getting the Black Plague of Nurgle. Mouths and gnaws suggest gluttony, which is cool paired with the bloated and "thicc" aesthetic. But it gets redundant when 6 out of 7 models throughout the range have those.

100%. I love the older take on plague marines. They were much less ‘busy’. The new ones just have way too much going on. Less is more as they say.

To be fair a lot of the details like the plasma guns on the new models are amazing I liked that they had older armor marks But I agree the line sometimes got a little out of hand

I feel the newer 40k art style in general has become... worse. The models don't feel as fun to look at a lot of the time because they look more cartoonish. The shapes appear to be more practical looking while the details are less jagged and appear to look more rounded and less edged. It reminds me of the Darksiders art style. Although the Darksiders art style is great, old 40k design just felt more raw and powerful. I am referring more to GW's models than anything, although I feel the actual artwork has suffered this issue to some degree.

@@uhhhummm3317 it's really inconsistent between factions. Space marines and Death Guard lost a lot of what made them cool. CSM and World Eaters really look much closer to classic art.

This looks incredible. I am also a big fan of the whole industrial aesthetic from the death guard and lewis jones's depiction of them is one of my favourite 40k pieces ever. Very nice color recipe Well done! I have a question regarding the superglue technique. Over the glue paint sticks very poorly and rubs Off easily. This is Bad in gaming miniatures that get touched. I could varnish the Miniature but that destroys the surface Finish Variation. Is there anything you can do to make acrylics and oils Stick to the glue?

Thank you! In my experience I didn't notice any issue of paint rubbing off. I don't know exactly how you do it. Mainly because I don't go crazy with colors over glue, I mainly use it to create special effects like veins. Oils will pretty much stick to anything, just be sure of be careful of quantities and application, get it smooth

How do you lock down the chains? I picked some chains up and some chainmail kitchen gloves to make some armor and ornements for a Khorne Dragon and a Leviathan Dreadnought. I'd love to know how you get them to stop moving so you can paint them withought the movemwnt breaking the paint.

I have always noticed that the use of wood has always been associated with Nurgle, which is so curious for 40k, as you hardly ever see wooden things in the grimdark future.

True. Maybe it's for the "organic" nature. Wood is one of those materials that is almost eternal and can be everywhere and in any age. In the grimdark future it's often not displayed, but it's there. Maybe it has to do with the Death Guard being the heralds of stagnation. The halt of advancement. And wood is often more associated with the past and ancient times. I don't know, I'm just blabbering, but to me it just feels natural to imagine Death Guard with a wood or contorted bone texture.

The models are cool. However the exaggeration in tentacles and doodles sometimes makes me wish using Horus Heresy bits instead - a little bit on the cleaner side so I can introduce some of these industrial elements.

I wonder how "readable" these minis are from afar from a gaming standpoint. I sometimes think thst they are too sameish at a distant. But they look great close up

Depending on the lighting of the room they can be as easy or much harder to read than any other "style". I play/live/paint in ill-lit dark rooms. But I have to say that surface finish variation really really helps reading a distant model. Black armor models are certainly harder to read. But this Death Guard and zombies are actually OK from a distance.

I know. Villainy Ink has no smell. If anything, it smells like raw pigments - reminds me of pumpkin for some reason. Other than that, no they have almost 0 odour.
