Standard-intermediate fast recipe that I'll use for my Black Templars army.
A blend of two worlds - my love for the irrational chaotic Blanchitsu mentality and feel, and the technical nuances of the Grimdark Compendium style. The look was indeed inspired by Immortan Joe. Check out how I did it!

@@DarkAgesWorkshop no problem man, it's nice seeing someone so effectively reference the artwork when creating their miniatures, it seems an obvious thing to do but most people just seem to imitate other hobbyists rather than being inspired by a style from a different medium (or in this guy's case, two different media)

@@aldaron1021 oh no problem buddy. yeah clint's great, i first heard of him through 2000ad, he did the art for sláine sometimes and i was blown away by his style. later on i found he'd done a shedload of 40k art too and i found that even more impressive. some of the best renders of astartes, orks, inquisitors & rogue traders i've seen and they fit the grimdark brief perfectly :)

The hair just really changes everything. That single feature alone puts all the other modeling details you added into context. You don't just look at him and wonder if he is a chaos marine, you now understand that he is as you describe: a brutal maniac with unbridled fanaticism.

I never realised how effective the mixing of multiple mediums can work even with the same color hues. The black armor uplifted with "black" varnish is amazing when you start rolling the light over it and see all the different textures and spotting of black thats on it. Thats a lesson im taking with me this time, i really want to try this out.

Maybe the best space marine I've ever seen. Big highlights for me: - Carrion Crimson is looking more and more appealing the more I see it used. The stray pigments in there are absolutely next level for skin. - The black ink + satin varnish mixture stippled on... So good. It looks like raindrops from the decayed and polluted urban environment have started falling in the last few minutes, leaving gross damp splotches all over the armor. Such a good effect. - I would love a more in-depth look at your process for hair - it's a challenge I want to undertake at some point and would love the see the process from start to finish.

I totally understand! I initially wanted a tabletop standard, and a process that is creative and just flows for me and my way of interpreting the aesthetic and chaos of battles of WH40K. I love the pure mayhem of Blanchitsu and the nuanced, technical part of Grimdark. So I tried to make a mix of both! It's indeed not for everyone and not a very clean job, but that's something I declared to myself from the start, so I was at peace with myself (and that's often a hard condition to meet). Cheers! Thanks for your input!

I am curious do you have any pics of a group of these models on a regular table? No disrespect meant, i am just wondering how well they look on the table from a distance, as my personal experience with this style i find it difficult to produce a model that looks awesome from a distance also. So often i see atmospheric lighting used on close up shots of grimdark style models, which look great but in person they seem to lack definition. Thank you!
