I made a comment on this film a few months ago and have revisited it again ,an absolute gem of pure nostalgia ,what we observe today is rapidly disappearing,who would have thought that every colliery and coal fired power station has gone ,who would have thought that we rapidly approaching the point where we no longer manufacture steel from raw base products ,Gosh scarey ;

Fabulous, atmospheric scenes from an age now long departed - yet it seems like only yesterday! Very, very nostalgic. Thanks so much for sharing these 8mm masterpieces! BTW, congratulations for getting such great quality from such a small format film

This is the North East I grew up in ,it was an area of industry ,coal was the lifeblood ,the 3rivers the Tyne,Wear and Tees were its main arteries,things move on but good to have memories on film if not the sounds and smells ,Beamish an evocative place👍

The beginning of the film is now the tanfield railway museum still going strong, the bowes side of the railway museum went bust a year ago and as far as I know its closed down

According to Companies House, Bowes Railway Museum at Springwell, aka BOWES RAILWAY COMPANY LIMITED(THE), is still active and has been since 27th November 1980

Burnopfield Colliery had rather big headstocks?? My grandfather worked there for a while he always comment on that.

Hello Keith, Colliery headstocks are the towers built above the mine shafts which house the wheels over which run the haulage ropes from the winding engine to the cages carrying men and mined coal. These can be seen in some of my shots at Burnopfield colliery. Peter.
