I have a sub-24lb Spur and one of the ways I did that was by getting a very nice light set of carbon wheels like you. In my case, I went with Roval SLs. You make the point that you can take a non-XC race bike like the Spur and basically make it an XC race bike with an upgrade like this and I could not agree more! I use my Spur as an XC performance rig most of the time and it’s extremely capable in that regard. If I want a bigger day in the mtns, I put back on the stock AL wheels laced up w/ fat/heavy tires, and it performs very well. Spur is so versatile!

Yeah, I am going to have a second wheel set for more all around riding and use my spur in some situations where I would normally use a longer travel bike like Pisgah. We’ll see how it goes!

Awesome job Clint. These wouldn't be suited for me, price, category of use, etc. This sounds like the difference between riding my Klein Attitude Race, and the YT Jeffsy, one is that super fast feel everything better watch it bike and the Jeffsy soaks it up and goes. I would love to know more about hub engagement.... as far as what I have and what could be improved. I'll scroll through your stuff, it may already be there, thanks dude! Great video description and I definitely learned some unknow wheel knowledge! 👍

Best valve stems I've used are the Reserve Fillmore valves, they don't clog ever. None of my bikes have carbon rims.

$2400 for this wheelset. Solix hubs are $695. Aluminum spokes are $7, so that's $364. So I9 wants $1340 for two rims and a build? It sounds like the sum of the parts cost is less than the whole, which is backwards. The Newmen Vonoa Light with carbon spokes is $1000 less and quite a bit lighter. Replacement spokes are also only $6. So how is a pedestrian aluminum spoke more expensive than a hand made carbon spoke? I9 must be into Hunter's stash.

i9-Hubs and spokes are fully fabricated in the US. That adds cost.

Hello man… perfect review, thank you! Watching to these wheels but in TR version. Can I ask you, why you choose UL version and not downcountry TR300/290 which I would say would be better for Transition Spur…? Thx

I knew that I would have two wheel sets one day (which I now have… video coming out about it next week) and I wanted a really lightweight wheel set for fast cross-country riding and some racing.

I dont get why you are so high on Stans wheels. The best thing about his wheels are the warranty. I have a set that came on my Rip9. Flow carbon wheels. Broke the rear rim 2x and the axel twice on all separate occasions. Stans does send plenty of stuff when they warranty stuff. New axel, new bearings, a quart of stans. (which I won't use). His valves are usable but no different than most I find. And yea, $2400 for a wheel set throwing money away. There are a ton of wheels (DT Swiss hubs and carbon rims) to get you in the sub 1300g range way cheaper. You could get 2 wheel sets and have money left over.....

I’ve just always had good success with Stan’s wheels. The hubs are easy to work on. I’ve done bearing replacements on them and with the proper tools there very easy. I know others have similar designs. Also, I really like the way they lock tire beats into the place. A lot of wheels have caught up but Stan’s have always worked well for me. I’m sure other good valves stems exist out there but most of the ones that I’ve used, particularly DT Swiss, have not worked well.

$2400 wheel set. Wow. I got grief spending $1k on a carbon wheel set a few months back. I went back and watched the reveal and noticed no dropper post?? Is there a reason for that? I really need a nice dropper and was hoping your dream build would set me straight.

I figured those wheels would be too stiff. I went with roval control SL on my Ranger. And bontrager kovee pro on my trance x. They are light latterly stiff but very compliant. I’m have 54t on rovals. And 108t on kovee. Can’t really tell the difference other than sound. The industry nine are a pass for XC.

I agree, DT Swiss 54poi is all the benefit with none of the problems of the 690poi on Hydras. They roll way faster, no kick back and DT Swiss is bomb proof. I have lots of DT's and 2 sets of I9.
