Great video. This trail really does not show the true fun of ebiking. I ride my emtb on trails that would be a killer on my acoustic bike. Steeper, longer, more technical. I really love the ebike in winter. I can stay warm and if I start to sweat I just throw in a bit more power and slow down. On the acoustic I was either sweating or freezing. Same idea in mid-summer. Climbs that would require a gallon of water and multiple cool off breaks on the mtb are nice on the ebike. Comparing emtb and mtb is like comparing a dirt bike to a street bike. Both have 2 wheels and a motor. The trails I have a blast on with the mtb would be very boring on the emtb. My favorite emtb trails are an ass kicker on the mtb and really not that much fun. On the emtb I can go UP the black runs.

If the other riders had their bikes configured for MX wheelsets, but ran the race on 29s, that could explain why you couldn't keep up. I have a 29er and the stock configuration is off by 2-3mph. You can adjust the tire size in the control, but that only affects the display. The dealer has to properly calibrate the rollout with your rider weight and tire size. When I bought the bike it did "20mph" but now it does ~18mph before you lose assist. My bike is designed to run MX or 29s depending on the flip-chip, so they have a wide latitude for wheel size.

I had a xc mountain bike high desert yesterday and I did it on my changed suspension bike hardtail to ridged . Of course I was the only rider on a bike like that . Lots of fun . Maybe comparable to a single speed putting me at a bit of a disadvantage . E bike maybe the complete opposite over my direction going ridged with less comfort .

Based on the video, I can see how having the skills and confidence to rail the turns is an important part of the race.

I have the Levo SL. I ride similar trails to what this race had. More hilly, but same technical difficulty. I put light weight XC wheels and 2.35 XC tires on it. HUGE difference in speed. I can ride with the battery off and keep up with my friends on their acoustic bikes. You might switch yours out and give it a try.

E-bike racing is more like MX where it’s an hour long sprint and not an endurance race. I always train and race with a garmin head unit (it connects to the motor) because it’s easy to train and ride easier than you think. Remember the motor is a force multiplier and if you only put 100 watts to the pedals then you’ll get 400 watts out but if you put 200 in then you’re getting 800 out. I also drag the brakes in turns but keep pedaling and use it like a clutch on a dirt bike. The power curve on the Levo is at peak power at 80 rpms so if you’re spinning 100 rpms then you’re just wasting your energy and past the power curve of the motor (over rev).

Clint, riding on Long Osland earlier in my mtb riding there is not a whole lot of elevation. I learned to get fast by pedaling through the turns which would always slingshot me out of the corner but with an ebike I would think you need less power so you don't over shoot he apex of the turn. On flats I would probably pin it and rely on good braking practices.

Love it! I’m loving my 2023 Levo Turbo Comp Carbon. What I love about it is getting lost for hours on end, and not worrying about tank’n. When I go 3 - 4 hours on my analogue bike, I’m crushed - which I’ll never stop doing - but it’s nice to take a break and still get some fitness in and go for 4+ and still feel the challenge but not be dead after the ride. I never go more than eco, even in 20-30 percent inclines.

I’ve had my Turbo Levo for 3 seasons now (8900miles) and while I’m 66, a number of friends in their 50’s have gotten emtbs. Everyone has been shocked by three things - how much fun emtbs are, how much more they ride and how much of a workout they provide. Fun comes from the fact that uphill is the new downhill, especially switchbacks with berms, and two, the ability to ride 3x as much terrain with the same effort or the fact that you’re never too tired for a ride means you ride a lot more often too, and finally by adjusting the power, you can get any level of workout you want. If you have no self-control maybe emtbs aren’t for you. I tuned my eco to be just a bit easier than my analog bike and I still ride 2 or 3 times as far. I have used turbo maybe 10 times all season and then only for a few moments (not great for most trail riding as too much torque causes wheel slip). My suggestion, rent one, hit your favorite trail system and the if convenient do some gravel rides (surprisingly fun especially if you live in the mountains like I do). Oh, and to your original question: on a recent ride, 4hrs 40miles and 4000’vertical of trails used 78% of my battery and I burned 800 calories. The bike out lasts me 😅

DB8 were the first SRAM brakes with mineral oil. Cheap brakes that - IMO - work very good, I really like them. It seems that Mavens are similar but more powerful than the DB8. Honestly I did not found even one comparison between both. If someone has impressions riding DB8 and Maven - please, share your thoughts. Mr Gibbs did not mention anything about the lever feel - this is probably the most controversial subject around the Mavens.

I don't get the ebike damage part. I'm 160# and my ebike is 20# heavier than my analog bike, same tire size. Is someone 20# heavier really going to do more damage? There is zero power delivery on a fast downhill, especially a flowey fast downhill, so that wouldn't be it. On a steep uphill in turbo mode, maybe a little skidding in the dirt, but negligible. Or maybe the first peddle strokes at the beginning of a trail.

Hey mate, good onya for getting out there on the pushy to do some proper field testing. Here's a tip for you, if you're looking to keep your vids for years, and you want the best quality for use as everything gets more capable, buy as many cards of a size as you can afford, up your bit rate to 100Mbps but also up your FPS up to [in your case ] 120 FPS. Because you use Resolve [I read that in one of your replies] what you do then is in the edit page, right click on your highlighted clip that you'd like to edit, scroll up to "change clip speed" click it and up the top left click in the "Speed" box and change that to 40%. Hit "Change" on the bottom right. This will give you an output of 30 FPS. [40% of 120 FPS =30 FPS ]The box will disappear and you'll see the highlighted clip on the timeline. Highlight all the clips to the right hand side of your now edited clip, this will allow you to click and drag all of them as one unit quite a way to the right. Once you've done this, highlight your clip you've slowed down, hover the mouse towards the right hand side in the clip and this will give you a symbol similar to ] , once this is showing, click the mouse and hold, a white line will now appear in front of your clip, without letting go of the mouse, drag the clip to the right to populate the interior of the white lined area. When you reach the vertical white line on the right, you will be able to view the full extent of your edited, slowed down clip. Be careful to allow enough space between the clips to "grow" your slomo clip. Put the play head back at the beginning of the edited clip, hit ctri F [PC ] then the space bar once you have full screen, to view your now, 30 FPS clip that will look buttery smooth. I own Resolve Studio, but I would imagine Resolve Freebe does the same if that's what you're using. I'm a bit of a quality over quantity freak. PS WB is very important, try and work in Degrees Kelvin. As a starter, try ~5500 for sunny days. [Your light will be different to the light here in AUS, due to different contaminants in the air ] Don't use Auto WB. You're better off using a good quality ND 8 or ND 16 filter. Make sure you set your ISO to operate in a range, e.g. low of 100 to a high of 400. This depends upon the lighting situation of any given ride. i.e. In and out of shade or not. It's all about ISO, trust me on this, everything else can be a fixed setting, controlled by ISO. Good luck. If you get around to doing all that, maybe pop that up on your channel and see if people notice the difference. Enjoy. Al.
