the scene with the swordsman was supposed to be more dramatic but Harrison Ford had a severe case of the runs and had to crap

+David Newsome He had the flu. They were going to do a huge whip fighting scene with the swordsman but he was so sick that day (most of the work was done by the stuntman) so he just improvised believing shooting him was more "indy style" and Spielberg loved it so much he kept it in. They actually just moved the scene because he does do a huge whip scene called the "Cairo Flash" when Marion is in the horse cart and he keeps the Egyptians at bay.

yup! he wasn't feeling well during shooting and since they couldn't get the scene to work, they just went with Harrison's idea which, I believe, was originally a joke he made to Spielberg - "Why don't I just shoot him?"

+Marko Juni (Pinoy Whip Enthusiasts) I think I remember though that Lucas hated it. The funny thing is that most of the scenes that Harrison has done that audiences have absolutely adored has been scenes that were Ford's idea and Lucas hated them. The scene in Empire Strikes Back where Han says to Leia "I Know" was actually Harrison's idea. Harrison didn't believe that "i love you" was something Han Solo would say he felt Han would be more closed off and would say something like "I know". George Lucas absolutely hated it and wanted it out, he wanted Han to say "I love you" but Harrison Ford fought like hell to keep that line in the movie which they did. I think it was the same with the whip cracking. I don't think Lucas was too particularly fond of having Indy just shoot the swordsman but Spielberg loved it so much and since he was the director it stayed in the film.

+David Newsome The joke wasn't funny the first time and just because you get more immature in your telling of the joke doesn't magically make it funny. This humor might appeal to the Elementary school class sense of humor though. So why don't you try that joke with some 8 year olds i'm sure they'd find it hilarious.

Too bad they didn't have Indy shout "I gotta poop!" Before he shot the sword guy

Don’t worry I’m sure George Lucas will add that in the Special Edition.
